UFC on ESPN 27 video: Sijara Eubanks destroys Elise Reed’s eye in return to 125

Sijara Eubanks was the biggest betting favorite on the UFC on ESPN 27 fight card, and she showed why.

[autotag]Sijara Eubanks[/autotag] was the biggest betting favorite on the UFC on ESPN 27 fight card, and she showed why.

Eubanks (7-6 MMA, 5-4 UFC) gave octagon newcomer and short-notice replacement [autotag]Elise Reed[/autotag] (4-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) a rude introduction to the promotion with a brutal beating en route to a first-round TKO.

It didn’t take long for Eubanks to go to work in the women’s flyweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. She took the fight to the canvas in the opening moments, then didn’t get off Reed until it was over. She closed Reed’s right eye with ground-and-pound in the process.

Check out the replay of Eubanks’ finish below (via Twitter):

After a two-fight skid at women’s bantamweight, Eubanks moved back down to 125 pounds for the fight with Reed. She’s now 3-0 in the division under the UFC banner and said this is her time and place to make a run to the top.

“I felt amazing, and this is the best I’ve felt in this weight class,” Eubanks said in her post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier. “I changed a lot of things in my life this year and I feel like a million bucks.”

Sijara Eubanks vs. Elise Reed added to UFC Fight Night 191 on July 24

Sijara Eubanks will welcome CFFC champion Elise Reed to the octagon at UFC Fight Night 191.

[autotag]Sijara Eubanks[/autotag] will welcome CFFC champion [autotag]Elise Reed[/autotag] to the octagon.

Eubanks (6-6 MMA, 4-4 UFC), who was initially expected to take on Brazilian Priscila Cachoeira, will now face Reed (4-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) in a flyweight bout at UFC Fight Night 191 on July 24, which is expected to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and stream on ESPN+.

Two people with knowledge of the matchup informed MMA Junkie of the booking Tuesday but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. No reason was given for Cachoeira’s withdrawal.

“The Ultimate Fighter 26” alum Eubanks will look to snap a two-fight losing skid when she moves back down to 125 pounds for the first time since 2018. After picking up back-to-back wins over Sarah Moras and Julia Avila, Eubanks has since dropped two straight to Ketlen Vieira and, most recently, Pannie Kianzad in December.

Meanwhile, CFFC strawweight titleholder Reed will move up a weight class when she makes her UFC debut. The unbeaten 28-year-old, who’s competed as far down as atomweight in the past, is coming off a second-round finish of Hilarie Rose at CFFC 97 in May, notching her second title defense.

With the addition, the UFC Fight Night 191 lineup includes:

  • Cory Sandhagen vs. T.J. Dillashaw
  • Brendan Allen vs. Puna Soriano
  • Maycee Barber vs. Miranda Maverick
  • Aspen Ladd vs. Macy Chiasson
  • Trevin Jones vs. Tony Kelley
  • Kyler Phillips vs. Raulian Paiva
  • Mickey Gall vs. Jordan Williams
  • Randy Costa vs. Adrian Yanez
  • Ian Heinisch vs. Nassourdine Imavov
  • Julio Arce vs. Andre Ewell
  • Darren Elkins vs. Darrick Minner
  • Cameron Else vs. Aaron Phillips
  • Sijara Eubanks vs. Elise Reed

CFFC 97 results: Elise Reed rains down elbows to retain strawweight title

CFFC 97 Results: Strawweight champion Elise Reed retains her title after a vicious TKO stoppage.

Cage Fury Fighting Championships took center stage on UFC Fight Pass Saturday evening while other major promotions were idle.

CFFC 97 served as the second event on back-to-back nights for the promotion in Philadelphia, headlined by a title fight in the strawweight division between undefeated champ [autotag]Elise Reed[/autotag] and [autotag]Hilarie Rose[/autotag], a Dana White Contender Series veteran.

The first round of the main event was a wild one with crazy scrambles on the mat. It all started after the pair exchanged blows on the feet and Rose attempted a takedown. The champ Reed would defend the attempt well, but her opponent popped back up and locked in a standing arm triangle submission attempt.

Reed ended up on top of her opponent on the canvas, starting a series of wild transitions and submission attempts until the round expired.

To start the second round, the two strawweights traded strikes on the feet, with Reed finding a home for her right hand a number of times, prompting a takedown attempt from Rose. The champ defended the takedown again, resulting in a clinch along the fence before Reed brought the fight to the mat and began raining down punches. Rose was able to grab a hold of Reed and attempt another armbar, but staying calm, the champ worked her way out of it with 30 seconds remaining in the round.

The escape would spell the end of the fight for Reed, as the champ unleashed a series of hard elbow strikes from the top, forcing the referee to call a stop to the action with only a few seconds remaining in the round.

Reed successfully defended her CFFC strawweight title for the second time with an emphatic finish, calling out any and all challengers for her title.

“I’ve got the belt. Someone come and get it,” Reed stated.

The main card as a whole had its share of exciting finishes, including a trio of rear-naked choke finishes from Jose Perez, James Lyons, and Efren Escareno.

CFFC 83: Elise Reed claims strawweight title, Bill Algeo calls out Giga Chikadze

CFFC crowned a new strawweight champion, while the promotion’s top featherweight contender delivered a big callout at CFFC 83 in Philadelphia.

[autotag]Elise Reed[/autotag] marked the occasion of her second professional fight with a championship win as she captured the vacant Cage Fury Fighting Championships strawweight title in the main event of CFFC 83 Thursday night.

Reed’s only prior pro fight actually came on a bigger stage, as she claimed a first-round TKO victory against Rebecca Bryggman at Bellator 231 last October. That big-show experienced seemed to serve the 27-year-old well as she produced a nerveless performance against the more fancied Jasmine Jasudavicius to capture the 115-pound title at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. The event was streamed live on UFC Fight Pass.

Despite conceding a height and reach advantage to her opponent, Reed (2-0) used excellent footwork to move in and out of striking range and effectively counter Jasudavicius (4-1) with a smart mix of punches and kicks as she earned scores of 28-29, 29-28, 29-28 to capture the strawweight strap.

“She obviously really likes her knees and she’s a taller fighter. I was a taekwondo person, so kicks are kinda my gameplan,” said Reed after her win, before saying she hopes to get back into the cage to fight again as soon as possible as she bids to build a winning streak with the CFFC belt over her shoulder.

“I don’t think anybody comes into the game planning to lose, and I’m sure as not hell going to stay here for 20 years and put (up) 40 records and 40 fights,” she said. “So, we’re taking over. We’re coming in, and we’re coming in hot, and you’ll probably see me again soon.”

In the night’s co-main event, featherweight [autotag]Bill Algeo[/autotag] (13-4) bounced back from his Contender Series defeat to Brendan Loughnane last June with an entertaining unanimous decision win over Tim Dooling, then delivered a direct callout to UFC 145-pounder [autotag]Giga Chikadze[/autotag].

“I feel great,” he said after the fight. “I’ve beaten everybody on the east coast for the most part. You look at the top 10, I’ve beaten them all.

“I’d really like to fight Giga Chikadze. He’s fighting Bruce Leeroy coming up in about a month in the UFC. I think he sucks. I’m ready to smash him. He was an average dude in Glory, now he’s a below-average MMA fighter. Giga, let’s get it. You’re a (expletive) punk!”

The night also featured impressive victories for former CFFC lightweight champion Joseph Lowry (9-1) and bantamweight prospect Paul Capaldo (5-0), while Isa Dalipaj produced a thrilling comeback performance to claim a first-round TKO win on his professional debut. Dalipaj (1-0) looked close to being finished early in the fight after a blistering start by Javier Guzman, but the Renzo Gracie Philly-trained prospect rallied well to turn the tables and score a stunning first-round finish of his own.
