Dolphins Connor Williams’ agent says he could wait to sign this offseason

Dolphins center might be willing to wait to sign with a team this offseason.

Miami Dolphins center Connor Williams was having one of the better years of his career in 2023 before he suffered a torn ACL just six snaps into the team’s Week 13 battle with the Tennessee Titans.

Williams is set to hit free agency this offseason after spending the last two seasons with Miami on a deal that paid him $14.04 million, but he held out for more before the year, so he’ll be looking for more than the $7.02 million he was making annually on his next contract.

Speaking on WQAM’s “The Joe Rose Show,” Williams’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, shared some information on the center’s offseason plans.

“I do think that we’re going to be very methodical and take our time relative to the contract,” Rosenhaus said (transcribed by the Miami Herald’s Daniel Oyefusi). “A lot of it may be predicated on how Connor is feeling physically. He may not be a player who signs at the very start of free agency. He may take more time based on how he’s feeling physically.

“Connor’s situation has a degree of uncertainty that’s going to be tied to how he’s feeling. And really, we’ll just take it one day at a time once we get into the offseason. But I’m not sure that that is one that’ll be resolved as quickly as some of the other players that we represent.”

This may be good for Miami for two reasons.

First, it allows the teams that are going to be big spenders this offseason to get their big contracts out of the way first, meaning there could be less competition for Williams’ services later in the offseason.

Second, the Dolphins could get some cap relief with a post-June 1 relief of cornerback Xavien Howard. If Williams were to wait that long to be signed, a portion of the savings ($18.5 million) from Howard’s dismissal could be used to re-sign the center to a long-term deal.

LB Andrew Van Ginkel wants to return to Dolphins in 2024

The LB’s agent says he wants to be back in Miami.

The Miami Dolphins ended their year with a sour taste in their mouths after losing their final three games, including a wild-card battle with the Kansas City Chiefs that knocked them out of the playoffs.

However, there was still a lot to be impressed with throughout the year, including the play of linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel, who’s set to become a free agent.

With the edge position up in the air for the Dolphins’ future, they’d be wise to consider retaining the former Wisconsin Badger, and he wants to play in aqua and orange again, according to his agent Drew Rosenhaus.

“The latest with Andrew is we feel good about the season that he had,” Rosenhaus told WSVN’s Josh Moser. “He’s going to be ready to go for the offseason. We’re excited about the possibility of him coming back to the Dolphins, although he’s a free agent, so anything’s a possibility. But, he’d like to come back and was a great fit in Vic Fangio’s scheme. We’ll just have to see as we get closer to March 13, which is the first day of free agency.”

Van Ginkel had a career year in 2023, recording 69 tackles, 19 quarterback hits, six sacks (career-high), eight passes defensed (career-high), one interception and a fumble recovery.

Unfortunately, his season ended abruptly as a foot injury in the regular-season finale against the Buffalo Bills landed him on injured reserve. That’s not how he wants his time to end in Miami,

The Dolphins are significantly over the projected cap for the 2024 season at the moment, but if they can create some space, Van Ginkel should be someone that they look to retain for the foreseeable future.

Dolphins RB Jeff Wilson to be designated to return from IR this week

Miami looks to be getting more RB depth soon.

The Miami Dolphins are off to a great start to their season, especially with their potent rushing attack, as Raheem Mostert and rookie De’Von Achane have rushed for 8.1 yards per attempt and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

Now, it appears Miami is adding more depth to the room.

According to NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus, the Dolphins are set to designate running back Jeff Wilson Jr. to return from injured reserve after dealing with rib and pinky injuries throughout the preseason and into the start of the 2023 campaign.

Miami will have 21 days to activate him, or he’ll be forced to miss the remainder of the season.

It’s unclear exactly how Wilson will fit in this group, but he’ll probably slot in above Salvon Ahmed and Chris Brooks on the depth chart.

UPDATE: Head coach Mike McDaniel said there’s no decision yet on whether or not Wilson will begin practicing this week.

Powerhouse NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus spotted at Saints training camp

Powerhouse NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus was spotted at Saints training camp, but does it mean anything? His unsigned clients include LB Rashaan Evans and OL Andrew Norwell:

There aren’t many people more influential around the NFL than Drew Rosenhaus. The high-profile agent represents dozens of players in the league and has spent decades cultivating relationships with general managers, coaches, and personnel executives from coast to coast. So it’s interesting that he was spotted at New Orleans Saints training camp on Wednesday by Nola.com’s Luke Johnson.

It might mean nothing. Rosenhaus represents several players on the Saints’ roster, including star wideout Chris Olave, veteran receiver James Washington, and a couple of guys on injured reserve like Eno Benjamin and Trai Turner. Maybe he just showed up to support his clients and glad-hand members of New Orleans’ front office to maintain those business relationships.

But isn’t it more fun to speculate? Rosenhaus still has many clients searching for work in 2022, and one name who jumps off the list is linebacker Rashaan Evans. The former first-round pick posted a career-high 159 tackles in 17 starts with the Atlanta Falcons last year, and he could make sense for the Saints now that Anthony Barr is moving on to pursue other opportunities. Other players represented by Rosenhaus Sports still available to sign include safety Josh Jones and guard Andrew Norwell. It’s possible he stopped by to test the waters and see if any of his clients could have a good opportunity in New Orleans.

Tyreek Hill under police investigation for alleged South Florida incident

Police in South Florida are looking into an incident allegedly involving Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is the subject of an investigation following an alleged incident that occurred at a marina in Florida.

Local 10 News reported Tuesday that the Miami-Dade Police Department is looking into whether Hill allegedly hit a man working at the Haulover Marina.

Per Local10.com:

According to a tip received by Local 10 News, at around 6 p.m. Sunday, Hill got into some kind of disagreement with an employee of one of the charter companies based at Haulover Marina that apparently ended with Hill hitting the man.

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus posted images on Instagram of the pair with a shark.

Colts’ Zaire Franklin signs with NFL super agent Drew Rosenhaus

Colts LB Zaire Franklin has some impressive new representation.

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin has some new representation, signing on with NFL super agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Franklin, who is coming off a career year in which he set the single-season franchise record for tackles (166), proved he can be a crucial piece of Gus Bradley’s defense.

Franklin still has two more years left on his current contract, and the Colts made it clear to Kenny Moore II last offseason that they aren’t willing to negotiate with players who still have that many years remaining.

Coming off that strong season, though, it makes sense for Franklin to sign with a big agent like Rosenhaus.

Franklin has $5.37 million remaining over the next two seasons but only $900,000 of that is guaranteed. According to Spotrac, he’s due $2.49 million in base salary for the 2023 season. $900,000 of that is guaranteed while he has $510,000 in per-game active bonuses and 16 likely-to-be-earned incentives.

In 2024, he is due $2.88 million in base salary, none of which is guaranteed, and also has another $510,000 in per-game active bonuses.

Franklin proved he can be a key piece of the defense, stepping up when Shaquille Leonard dealt with major injuries.

With two years remaining on his deal, Franklin may simply be preparing to negotiate an extension after the 2023 season or this may be something to monitor entering training camp.

Dolphins OL Robert Jones hires Drew Rosenhaus as new agent

His contract with Miami expires after 2023, but he’ll be a restricted free agent.

As players get nearer to their negotiating windows, the need for an agent often becomes clearer.

For Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Robert Jones, his current contract with the team is set to expire after the 2023 season. At that point, he’ll be a restricted free agent, meaning Miami can opt to place a tender on him, giving them the right to match another team’s offer. They could also decide to agree to a deal without the tender, as running back Salvon Ahmed did this offseason.

Ahead of his final year under his contract, Jones has hired a new agent – Drew Rosenhaus. Dolphins fans are very familiar with Rosenhaus as he represents a number of players on the current roster, including Jeff Wilson Jr., Myles Gaskin, Jerome Baker, Tyreek Hill, Emmanuel Ogbah and Connor Williams.

If Jones gets opportunities as he did last season (playing 46% of the team’s offensive snaps) he may prove himself to the Dolphins or another team as a capable backup that deserves another contract in the league.

With Miami signing Dan Feeney this offseason, who has guard and center versatility, Jones’ spot isn’t a guarantee on this year’s roster, so he’ll have to earn his spot in 2023 and beyond.

Drew Rosenhaus says Dolphins tried to trade for TE Darren Waller

That would’ve been another big splash.

Entering the 2022 season, the Miami Dolphins were undergoing a large shift in their building, as Mike McDaniel was taking over as head coach and bringing his offensive scheme with him.

In that system, tight ends are used a bit differently than they had been in the offenses during Brian Flores’ regime, which meant Mike Gesicki, a former first-round pick who was kept around on a franchise tag, probably wasn’t going to be the best fit.

With that knowledge, the Dolphins apparently tried to make some moves to add talent to the room. According to NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus on The Pat McAfee Show, Miami was involved in trade discussions to acquire tight end Darren Waller from the Las Vegas Raiders before he landed with the New York Giants.

It’s not clear when these discussions were had, but Gesicki and Waller both had down years in 2022 and probably could’ve benefited from being in different situations.

Now, heading into 2023, Gesicki is with the New England Patriots, and the Dolphins are left with the recently extended Durham Smythe, Eric Saubert and Tanner Conner.

They could still make a move to acquire a veteran or draft a rookie at the end of the month, but everyone would probably feel better about the position if they were entering the year with Darren Waller on the roster.

Georgia DL Jalen Carter will not be visiting the Commanders

This is no surprise considering Washington’s defensive tackles.

Jalen Carter is not going to visit any NFL team that is not selecting in the top ten.

Carter’s character has been called into question after he was involved in an incident of racing and reckless driving which resulted in two people in another car dying.

Carter has denied to police that he was racing but then pleaded no contest. The former Georgia Bulldog defensive tackle weighed in at 315 at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine. Then only two weeks later, weighing in at 323, Carter struggled at times during his Pro Day workout.

His Georgia coach Kirby Smart defended his character, pointing to how Carter was injured against Oregon, then again against Missouri. “He probably could have shut it down. He decided to come back and play really for his teammates. I think that says a lot about his character in terms of what his competitive character is like and what he wants to do on the field for his teammates.”

Each team is permitted 30 visits of prospective draft selections excluding those from local universities or local players. Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has boldly proclaimed Carter will only visit teams slotted to draft in the top ten.

The Commanders own the 16th selection, and already having Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne signed for the next few years, it would be unlikely the Commanders would draft Carter, were he to fall back to 16th.

With Montez Sweat and Chase Young nearing the end of their contracts soon, the Commanders would more than likely choose an edge rusher before they would go inside tackle. Most analysts currently have them choosing an offensive tackle or cornerback at No. 16.

But notice how Rosenhaus is responding to the recent troubles of his client, Carter. Is he attempting a mental game to convince all teams drafting in the top ten they should want Carter? Is Rosenhaus creating a new draft floor for Carter? Is he is attempting to do all he can to prevent Carter from slipping out of the top ten?

Former All-Pro DT Gerald McCoy offers some smart advice to Jalen Carter

After Carter’s agent declared he wouldn’t work out for teams outside the top 10, McCoy chimed in with some smart persspective

Sometimes it takes someone who has walked along the pathway before to provide the best guidance for a player. In the case of Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter and his rocky path to the draft, he’s been offered some sage wisdom from an NFL great who recently reached the end of the path Carter is hoping to explore.

After Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, communicated via ESPN’s Adam Schefter that his client will only work out for teams picking inside the top 10 selections, longtime Buccaneers great Gerald McCoy chimed in with some smart perspective. McCoy, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft by the Buccaneers, thought that was a bad move by Rosenhaus and Carter.

McCoy, a player to whom Carter is sometimes compared, offered this smart response,

“Whether he is expected to be top 10 or not. His recent circumstance and his workouts this not smart. Also you never know who may want to trade up. Don’t assume with the draft. We’ve seen some crazy things happen.”

McCoy made the Pro Bowl every season from 2012-2017 and finished his career with 59.5 sacks. He last played in just one game for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021.
