Jaylen Brown-backed tourney for Donda Academy canceled due to Ye West ties

The event, which was to be played at HBCU Morehouse College, was canceled over Ye’s ‘divisive and unproductive statements’.

Star Boston Celtics shooting guard Jaylen Brown has been working to secure the Donda Academy basketball team opponents after the antisemitic diatribe of its founder, Ye West, has caused many organizations and individuals to distance themselves from the entertainer in recent weeks.

The Celtics star, who himself left Donda Sports talent representation as a result of West’s words, had lined up a tourney with The Skill Factory, a Georgia-based prep squad to be held at Morehouse College, an Atlanta-area HBCU, on Nov. 6. But now, per Floor and Ceiling’s Wilko Martínez-Cachero, that event has been canceled per Cedric Mobley, Morehouse College spokesman.

Brown responded to news of the cancelation, confirmed by the College, by tweeting that it was an “unfortunate retraction” even while “the kids and family appreciate the consideration. Brown also noted he was “currently looking for another solution.”

Celtics star wing Jaylen Brown to host tourney for Donda Academy at Morehouse

“It’s important resources are provided for these student-athletes,” wrote Brown, a longtime supporter of education.

In the wake of the fallout from Donda Academy’s founder Ye West’s antisemitic diatribes that threatened to shutter the school, star Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown has been making it his personal mission to ensure the students enrolled in the academy aren’t left out in the cold due to the acts of its founder.

Long a proponent of education, Brown — who himself left Donda Sports as his non-NBA talent representation agency in the wake of the West scandal — has organized a tournament for the Academy at Atlanta-area HBCU Morehouse College. “It’s important resources are provided for these student-athletes, not taken away,” write the Celtics star in a Twitter post on Saturday night.

“Shout out to (Morehouse) for opening their doors to host the Donda Doves’ official1st basketball game of the season. I need everyone in Atlanta to show love and support!,” he added. “I’ll be in attendance.”

The event in question, scheduled on Nov. 6 at 7:30 pm ET and slated to pit the Doves against TSF Basketball according to the event page, will be open to the public for a cost of $20, with a dress code that all in attendance wear all-black clothing.

Jaylen Brown on Donda Academy students: ‘I’m going to continue to fight for those kids’

Jaylen Brown explained his continued support for Donda Academy students and families on Friday night. “I’m gonna continue to fight for those kids and fight for kids in neighborhoods that don’t necessarily have people fighting for them.” Brown said.

Jaylen Brown may have officially ended his relationship with Donda Sports this week, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have lingering concerns with the future of Donda Academy, a school run by rapper Kanye West. Brown has been vocal about his on-going support for the students and families affected by the school’s abrupt closure.

Donda Academy is a private school set up by West in September of 2022. Yesterday parents received word the school would be closing for the year, though that decision may have been changed. For now, Donda’s students – and its basketball program – are left without answers.

West, who now goes by “Ye,” has seen numerous business relationships cut following antisemitic comments made online and on radio. Brown joined the Gap, Adidas, and others in severing ties with West. West claims he saw his net worth drop by several billion dollars as a result.

Brown took to Twitter to advocate for the Donda Academy students and players. Friday night he was asked about his support and why he wants to help ensure the Donda students and players can succeed moving forward.

Champion Celtics alum Ray Allen recirculates article on Auschwitz after Ye West’s antisemitic rants

Allen felt the need to repost his article on Auschwitz ‘in light of the rhetoric being spewed through the airwaves.’

On Wednesday, champion Boston Celtics alumnus Ray Allen felt compelled to re-share his article from 2017 on why he decided to visit Auschwitz, the infamous World War II concentration camp that played a central role in the murder of 1.1 million Jews at the hands of the Nazi regime.

The University of Connecticut alumnus did so, as he said in an Instagram post, “in light of the rhetoric being spewed through the airwaves,” likely a reference to the antisemitic diatribes which embroiled Ye West and, through that, have to do a better job breaking through ignorance and the close-mindedness and the divisions that are plaguing our society has entangled fellow Celtics alumnus Jaylen Brown via his representation by West’s Donda Sports talent representation agency.

“Up to date, I have visited Auschwitz on two separate occasions,” explained Allen.

Jaylen Brown faces widespread criticism for response to Ye controversy

The Celtics star has found himself in the news for what many are characterizing as his inadequate response to West’s comments.

Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown was one of the first star athletes to sign with Ye (formerly Kanye) West’s Donda agency to represent his non-NBA interests, and in the wake of the antisemitic diatribe that embroiled West in scandal in recent weeks, he has also been among the first to feel the effects of what many are criticizing as his inadequate response to West’s comments.

Unlike West’s own talent agency CAA or his former sneaker partnership with Adidas — both of which have distanced themselves from West, breaking their business ties — Brown has eschewed doing so in a recent interview with the Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn.

“A lot of time goes into creating an entity or organization,” said the Celtics wing regarding his decision to remain with Donda.

Boston’s Jaylen Brown explains why he chose Kanye West’s Donda agency to represent off-court ventures

It goes beyond West’s success as an artist.

Initially thought by some to be Boston Celtics star forward Jaylen Brown’s sole representation, it has since come to light that Brown’s partnership with Donda Sports, the new agency started by rapper Kanye West, is focused on marketing the Georgia native’s many off-court ventures.

Speaking to Bally Sports’ Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Brown shared some background on what he expects out of the partnership and why he chose to work with West on such ventures. “It’s a little bit of everything,” he explained. “Just trying to make an impact, make an influence. Take our platform and rather than going through the ups and downs of dealing with people in higher-ups, we get to come at a different angle.”

Brown also made it clear that his decision to work with West’s agency was not just because of his success as a producer and a rapper, but also his experience doing fashion, clothing, and other business ventures.

“Somebody who has always been about breaking walls and breaking down barriers,” the Celtics star described West.

Nets star Kyrie Irving rumored to join Kanye West’s Donda Sports

Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving is reportedly signing with Kanye West’s Donda Sports, according to an Alabama reporter.

There are some light murmurs that superstar Kyrie Irving of the Brooklyn Nets will be the next athlete to join Donda Sports.

Softball beat writer Brett Greenberg of Tuscaloosa News reported on Twitter that Irving would be signing with Donda Sports.

Irving’s stepmother Shetellia Riley currently handles the ball handler’s career as his agent.

Greenberg notes that Donda Sports offers marketing services that the likes of Aaron Donald and Jaylen Brown have signed on for, meaning Irving’s step-mother could continue to represent him.

Reddit chatter began after a user posted the Irving-Donda Sports deal days ago. The user has reportedly leaked Kanye West news in the past including the song True Love and the planned and canceled Donda 2 LP2 project in Houston.

Considering the fact that Irving is up for an extension and is expected to remain in Brooklyn, this is a big move. It will be interesting to see how he and the Nets will handle this now going forward into negotiations.

Celtics’ Jaylen Brown reportedly signs with Donda, Kanye West’s agency, as first athlete to do so

West reportedly is as interested in what Brown wants to do off the court as on it.

It seems that Boston Celtics star forward Jaylen Brown has new representation. And he is the first such NBA player or player of any sport to be represented by his new agency, Donda, according to TMZ Sports. According to TMZ, the partnership has been in the works since March.

It was ironically sparked at the last meeting of the Celtics and the team they now face in the 2022 NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors when Donda chief and renowned hip hop artist Kanye West linked up with the Celtics star at the game, the two photographed courtside in a popular image making the rounds at the time.

TMZ relates that the agency wanted to work with the Cal-Berkeley product “his intelligence, social activism, and charitable work” as well as his on-court skill. West reportedly believes “Brown is underappreciated … and wants to bring him to “superhero” status during his career and long after his playing days.”

The Georgia native famously chose to go into the league without representation, using his personal network of NBA elder statesmen and trusted confidants to navigate the business side of his career in the league.

He later hired agent Jason Glushon to handle his contract extension before moving on to this stage of his career.

Drake just leaked Kanye West’s ‘Life of the Party’ diss track and people are so confused

This is hip hop in 2021.

The beef between Kanye West and Drake just begins to get more and more confusing by the day.

These two hip-hop powerhouses have been throwing shots at each other over the last few years since Pusha T first reignited his beef with Drake back in 2018.

Naturally, with the two of them releasing albums within the same week of one another, there were almost certainly more shots between the two of them coming.

Drake threw plenty of them at West on Certified Lover Boy with tracks like “7 AM on Bridle Path” and “No Friends in the Industry.”

But it seems Kanye actually left his biggest shot at Drake off of his album, Donda.

On a track called “Life of the Party” featuring Andre 3000, West absolutely takes it to Drake and a few other folks he, apparently, has a little problem with.

The best part? We only know this track exists because, well, Drake leaked it himself.

WHEW BOY, y’all. We got a whole mess here.

Kevin Durant gave feedback to Kanye West before ‘Donda’ released

Kevin Durant gave Kanye West feedback for his new album.

The world has been waiting for the release of Kanye West’s new album “Donda” for a while now. Questions on what took the well respected rapper so long to drop his new project are slowly being answered. As reported by Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press, West reached out to Nets star Kevin Durant for some feedback on “Donda” before releasing it.

Durant found time in Tokyo during his gold medal run with Team USA to do so. During the Olympics, the 33-year-old said the iconic artist is “a master at his craft.” The Nets forward is no stranger at all to making music, which should make this not that big of a surprise. He spends time with rapper Dave East to improve his own skills in rapping and even made a song with LeBron James called “It Ain’t Easy.”

If one thing is for sure, we should expect the two-time NBA Champion to have several songs from “Donda” in his pregame playlist next season.
