Celtics’ Derrick White earns first career triple-double in blowout win vs. Pistons

White put up the first triple-double of his career in the Celtics’ recent win over the Detroit Pistons.

Derrick White has taken his game to new levels since he was traded from the San Antonio Spurs to the Boston Celtics, elevating his game from a borderline starter to a borderline All-Star. And it is on the defensive end that the Colorado native excels the most, leading the NBA in blocks by a guard and making a real case for First Team All-Defense.

Even with all of this going for him, somehow, White put up the first triple-double of his career in the Celtics’ recent win over the Detroit Pistons at TD Garden, putting up 22 points, 10 rebounds, and as many assists in the win.

To talk over White’s impressive night against Detroit, the host of the NBC Sports Boston “Celtics Talk” podcast Chris Forsberg linked up with Jen Rizzotti, Ashley Battle, Abby Chin, DiJonai Carrington, Zora Stephenson, and Amina Smith.

The Boston Celtics stomped the Detroit Pistons 119-94

Boston jumped out to a lead early and grew it throughout the contest.

The Boston Celtics did not have too much trouble with the Detroit Pistons at TD Garden on Monday night. Unlike the overtime affair that the Celtics needed to put away a much more desperate and healthy Pistons squad, Boston jumped out to a lead early and grew it throughout the contest.

Speaking on a recent episode, the hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast weighed in on the win for the Celtics, and get caught up on news from around the league. They talk Derrick White’s first career triple-double, and Kristaps Porzingis’ return from injury, and more.

“Next man up” C’s keep rolling despite being shorthanded for second straight night

The Boston Celtics played the Detroit Pistons a lot better the second time around this season.

The Boston Celtics played the Detroit Pistons a lot better the second time around this season, not needing overtime or anything close to it to come away with a 119-94 win. And they did it with several key players out injured as well, including Jayson Tatum, Al Horford, Jrue Holiday, and Sam Hauser.

The game was close in the first quarter, but it did not take long for the next men up on the Celtics roster to take control of the game. And to add an extra layer of intrigue to the matchup, NBC Sports Boston had an all-female crew calling the contest that night.

After the win, Jen Rizzotti, Ashley Battle, Abby Chin, DiJonai Carrington and Zora Stephenson joined Amina Smith to talk over the win for Boston.

PHOTOS: Boston vs. Detroit – Pistons seize up, lose to Celtics 119-94

Let’s take a look at some of the best moments captured in images in the Celtics’ 67th game of the 2023-24 NBA season vs. the Pistons.

The Boston Celtics made the trip back to TD Garden to take on the Detroit Pistons again this season, but without the Pistons trying to break free from one of the worst losing streaks in recent memory. Things went a bit better for Boston this time around, however, than in the fairly competitive first meeting of the season that went to overtime.

Detroit kept things close in the first quarter, with Boston getting some separation in the second frame that they never relinquished, winning 119-94. The Celtics held the Pistons to just 31.0% from beyond the arc, and won the rebounding battle (53-43), and made more assists (30-21) to seal the victory.

Let’s take a look at some of the best moments captured in images in the Celtics’ 67th game of the 2023-24 NBA season vs. the Pistons.

Nets’ Mikal Bridges discusses how he has to be better moving forward

After Thursday’s 118-112 loss at the Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets guard Mikal Bridges talked about how he has to be better moving forward.

The Brooklyn Nets are at the point of their season where if they want a chance of making the Eastern Conference play-in tournament, they cannot afford to lose games against some of the easier opponents on their schedule. While Brooklyn has only been slightly better than some of the worst teams in the NBA, they are also going through some key injuries as well.

The Nets lost at the Detroit Pistons on Thursday 118-112 and while some would say that there isn’t much separating those two teams at this point of the season, it’s still a win that Brooklyn needs to keep its playoff hopes alive. Center Nic Claxton spoke on how the Nets have to improve their rebounding as a team if they want to come away with some of these games at a time where they are missing some key frontcourt members.

One of the main storylines that came out of Thursday’s loss as how ineffective guard Mikal Bridges was over the course of the contest. Bridges, who is averaging 20.9 points per game for the season, scored just 13 points in the contest and shot just 4-of-11 from the field.

While Bridges is dealing with some discomfort in his right wrist after taking some contact to it during a 106-102 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday, he has not been listed on the injury report so the assumption is that the injury shouldn’t be affecting him too much.

Either way, if the Nets are going to win enough games to pass the Atlanta Hawks for the 10th and final seed in the play-in tournament, Bridges has to be better. He said so himself after Thursday’s loss at Detroit:

“Just bad on my part. Just continue to keep doing bad habits so personally, I just got to be better. Yeah, we was fighting, but they (the Pistons) was just getting a lot of rebounds and just executing better than us.”

Nets’ Nic Claxton reacts to lack of rebounding in loss to Pistons

After Thursday’s 118-112 loss at the Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets center Nic Claxton reacted to the team’s overall lack of rebounding.

The Brooklyn Nets are at arguably their most important portion of the season as they have to pile up wins despite facing their most significant amount of injuries at the same time. Despite being favored in their matchup at the Detroit Pistons on Thursday, Brooklyn did not do what it was supposed to do to win the game.

The Nets lost at the Pistons on Thursday 118-112 and in the contest, it was clear that one of Detroit’s points of emphasis was controlling the glass on both ends of the floor. The Pistons won the rebounding battle 50-28 and part of that was due to the fact that Brooklyn was missing Ben Simmons, Cam Johnson and Day’Ron Sharpe from its frontcourt rotation.

The other part of that huge discrepancy was Detroit picking up 13 offensive rebounds thanks to the activity of players like Jalen Duren (three offensive rebounds) and Ausar Thompson (two). Since the Nets were missing some key frontcourt players, the Pistons took advantage of how much smaller Brooklyn was once Nic Claxton went to the bench.

Claxton had one of the better performances on the team as he put up 15 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal, and three blocks and even he felt that he could have been better on the boards. Here’s what Claxton had to say about the team’s overall rebounding performance:

“The biggest difference-maker was probably the rebounding and them just corralling the missed shots and it’s a big momentum change. So, I would say the rebounding… we all just got to do a good job of just hitting somebody and we can also do better on the offensive glass. I need to do better on the offensive glass for sure. I think I’m probably averaging like one (offensive) rebound in the last 10 games so I need to do better.”

Nets’ full injury report for Thursday’s matchup at the Pistons

Here is the full injury report for the Brooklyn Nets heading into their matchup on Thursday at the Detroit Pistons.

The Brooklyn Nets are in an important stretch of their season as they are trying to stack up enough wins to get back into the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Heading into an important matchup against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday, Brooklyn will be without yet another key rotation player.

In the Nets’ initial injury report ahead of Thursday’s game at the Pistons, it was shown that Brooklyn’s injury report is just getting longer by the day. Not only will guards Ben Simmons (left lower back nerve impingement), and Cam Thomas (right ankle/midfoot sprain) be out for the game, but so will forward Cam Johnson due to a right ankle sprain.

Johnson suffered his sprain in Tuesday’s 112-107 win over the Philadelphia 76ers after coming down on Kyle Lowry’s foot following a made three-pointer. Nets interim head coach Kevin Ollie said after the game that the team would look at Johnson and provide more information when it’s available.

In what is some good news, backup center Day’Ron Sharpe (right wrist contusion) is questionable after missing Tuesday’s win over the 76ers with the wrist issue. Thomas and Simmons will miss their sixth straight games with their respective injuries.

With all of these injuries, it seems that Dennis Schroder will be the point guard and Lonnie Walker IV could be starting in place of Johnson.

NBA Rookie of the Month: Victor Wembanyama, Brandon Miller win for February

Victor Wembanyama and Brandon Miller for the second straight time were named the NBA Western and Eastern Conference Rookies of the Month.

San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama and Charlotte Hornets forward Brandon Miller for the second straight time have been named the NBA Western and Eastern Conference rookies of the month for February, respectively.

Wembanyama became the first Spurs rookie to win in consecutive months since Tim Duncan in March and April 1998. Wembanyama averaged 21.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.9 blocks and two steals in 12 games. He led all rookies in scoring, rebounding, blocks and steals in the month.

Utah Jazz guard Keyonte George, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Chet Holmgren and Houston Rockets guard Amen Thompson were also nominated for the award in the West. Toronto Raptors guard Gradey Dick, Miami Heat guard Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Detroit Pistons guard Ausar Thompson were nominated in the East.

Thunder’s Mike Muscala hilariously treats his NBA career like a regular job with LinkedIn updates

Mike Muscala wants to join your professional network.

One of the many perks of playing in the NBA is that you probably don’t need a traditional resumé the way most people in the workforce might.

But in spite of that, NBA veteran Mike Muscala continues to use the professional networking website LinkedIn the way he would if he had a normal job.

Muscala has played ten professional seasons for seven different franchises. He has already played for three teams during the 2023-24 campaign already with stops on the Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons before returning to the Oklahoma City Thunder (where he played from 2019 until 2023).

At each stop, as noted by Front Office Sports, the big man has updated his LinkedIn profile:

Muscala has shared updates on his profile, such as thanking the Pistons for his time with the organization.

He even pays the monthly fee for a premium LinkedIn account, which is objectively hilarious.

DeMar DeRozan reveals frustrations of Pistons loss carried over

Chicago Bulls star DeMar DeRozan revealed that the frustrations from the Detroit Pistons loss carried over to the next one.

On Tuesday night, the Chicago Bulls lost an ugly one. They took on the Detroit Pistons, one of the worst teams in the NBA and the owners of the longest losing streak in league history. Chicago shot just 2-of-29 from behind the three-point line and ended up losing the game, their second loss to the Pistons this season.

Luckily for the Bulls, they got a chance to bounce back right away, as they took on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night on the second night of a back-to-back. The second-seeded Cavaliers came to play, but the Bulls came to fight.

They pulled out a victory in double overtime, and after the game, DeMar DeRozan revealed that everyone came into the game still angry over the loss to Detroit. (H/t Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times)

“No disrespect to Detroit, but that’s a game we should have won,” DeRozan said. “I know I was [ticked] off. I was up till 6 o’clock this morning just [ticked] off about losing. Just eager to get back out there, and everybody showed it.”

DeRozan ended the game with 35 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists while shooting 8-of-26 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the three-point arc.
