Safety Daymon David to enter the transfer portal

Oregon Ducks safety Daymon David has announced that he will enter the transfer portal.

The Oregon Ducks are losing a member of their secondary this offseason, with safety Daymon David announcing that he plans to enter the transfer portal and leave the program.

David spent three years at Oregon, playing in 17 total games and totaling 13 tackles and one pass break-up. Going forward, David will have two years of eligibility remaining.

David is one of the few Mario Cristobal-era Ducks to stick around under Lanning. He was originally a member of the 2021 recruiting class, rated by 247Sports as a 4-star player, ranked as the No. 203 in the nation, and the No. 13 safety.

After the 2022 season, David originally entered the transfer portal and tested the waters on the open market. Later that summer, he returned to Oregon.

Daymon David returns to Oregon after entering transfer portal

Oregon Ducks defensive back Daymon Davis reversed course and decided to stay in Eugene after entering the NCAA transfer portal in May.

The depth in the secondary for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks just got a nice boost with the news that sophomore Daymon Davis – who initially entered the NCAA transfer portal on May 5 – will return to Eugene this upcoming season, according to 247Sports.

Davis appeared in nine games for the Ducks as a true freshman in 2021, recording three tackles. He was injured during spring camp and wasn’t able to practice with the team and the new coaching staff, and ultimately ended up entering the portal.

Davis then explored his options, which included taking a visit to Tallahassee and the Seminoles of Florida State before deciding to stick with the Ducks.

Davis helps provide depth to a position group that lost Verone McKinley III to the NFL this spring, but otherwise retained a large portion of their core from last year’s team – including Trikweze Bridges, Bryan Addison, Jamal Hill, Bennett Williams, and Steve Stephens IV.

Davis will return to Eugene with three years of eligibility remaining and will look to crack the rotation under Lanning in his second season in Eugene.

Oregon DB Daymon David enters the transfer portal following spring football

Oregon CB Daymon David is entering the transfer portal. Significant depth hit for the Ducks at a position where they can’t afford it.

The Oregon Ducks took a hit to the depth chart on Thursday afternoon, with cornerback Daymon David entering the transfer portal, per On3’s Matt Zenitz.

David, who played in three games last season for the Ducks, was sidelined for much of spring football with an injury. He is a former four-star recruit who totaled three tackles in 2021.

The loss of David is certainly a hit to Oregon’s secondary, where they are already thin as it is. This spring, projected starting CB Dontae Manning suffered a leg injury that held him out of the spring game, and Trikweze Bridges was moved from CB to safety in the offseason as well.

While the Ducks did add former Colorado CB Christian Gonzalez via the transfer portal this offseason, there was a thought that they might try and add some more depth through the portal this spring. Instead, it appears that one of their defensive backs is choosing to leave the program.

Michigan loses out on 2021 safety target to Oregon

Michigan football loses out on one of its final defensive back targets in the 2021 cycle.

Currently, Michigan has a pair of defensive backs committed to the 2021 class in cornerback Ja’Den McBurrows from Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas and safety Rod Moore from Clayton (OH) Northmont. The Wolverines were hoping a third would come in the form of Reisertown (MD) Franklin four-star safety Daymon David.

While things were looking good for the maize and blue and the nation’s No. 195 player, regardless of position, according to 247Sports, they appeared to be waning in favor of a Pac-12 power.

Turns out, that is the case, as David officially made his commitment on Friday afternoon, and the Wolverines are out and the Ducks are in.

David committed to Mario Cristobal and Oregon via Twitter on Friday.

To finish out the 2021 class, Michigan will continue to work on Oak Park (MI) defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny and West Bloomfield (MI) Donovan Edwards — a pair that goes head-to-head on Friday night in the state of Michigan season opener — along with Jersey City (NJ) St. Peter’s Prep four-star defensive tackle George Rooks, Los Angeles (CA) Loyola cornerback Ceyair Wright and Florida State CB commitment Omarion Cooper.

Bob Shoop was Michigan’s primary recruiter for David.

Oklahoma makes top-six for 2021 safety Daymon David

Oklahoma is hot on the recruiting trail and more and more recruits continue to give the Sooners a long look. Daymon David is another.

Oklahoma is hot on the recruiting trail and more and more recruits continue to give the Sooners a long look.

The Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia area is starting to become a pipeline for Lincoln Riley. He has landed two recruits in the last two recruiting classes from the area and is in strong contention for five-star Caleb Williams.

Add Daymond David to the mix—a 6-foot-2, 170 pound safety from the DMV area that included Oklahoma in his top-six.

David may be one of the most underrated prospects Oklahoma is recruiting in the 2021 recruiting class. He is listed as a two-star recruit on Rivals despite offers from Miami, Michigan State, Michigan, North Carolina State and the Sooners.

Alex Grinch already has one safety committed for the 2021 recruiting class in in-state safety Jordan Mukes and that’s it.

Oklahoma’s picked up two commitments from five-star wide receiver Mario Williams and four-star pass rusher Clayton Smith in the last two weeks. The 2021 recruiting class currently has seven commitments and is ranked 26th in the country according to Rivals.
