Georgia fans often talk about how cool it would be to have two former Bulldog running backs in the same NFL backfield sharing carries.
And that may soon be a reality. Former UGA running back Todd Gurley met with the Detroit Lions last week, per ESPN, where fellow Georgia product D’Andre Swift currently acts as the No. 1 back. He left without a contract, but there’s some serious buzz about that visit.
Swift said he’d ‘be happy’ to have a fellow former Dawg split carries with him in Detroit.
“Knowledge. Experience,” Swift replied when asked how he would benefit from the Lions potentially signing Gurley, per LionsWire. “I’d be happy if he come here as well. I just want to compete with these guys. Just to have him in the building, that’d be good.”
But Swift would not be the only familiar face for Gurley in Detroit. His former quarterback, Jared Goff, was dealt to the Lions earlier this offseason for Matthew Stafford, another former Dawg. Additionally, he played under Lions GM Brad Holmes in Los Angeles.

Gurley played under Lions GM Brad Holmes in Los Angeles and experienced great success, rushing for over 2,500 yards and scoring 40 total touchdowns with the Rams in the 2017-2018 seasons. He’s struggled with chronic knee issues since, rushing for just 3.5 yards per carry in Atlanta in 2020.
Gurley and Swift both had great Georgia careers and are two of the best backs in UGA history.
From 2012-14, Gurley rushed for 3,285 yards and scored 42 total touchdowns. Swift (2017-19) ran for 2,885 yards and found the end zone a total of 25 times.
Gurley ranks fourth on UGA’s all-time leading rusher list while Swift ranks seventh.
