Dallas Stars at Colorado Avalanche Game 6 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Dallas Stars at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche square off in Game 6 of their Western Conference 2nd-round series Friday. Puck drop from Ball Arena is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (TNT). Stars lead series 3-2. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Stars vs. Avalanche odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Stars won 3 consecutive games in this series after an epic Game 1 collapse. The win streak included a pair of victories in the Mile High City in Games 3 and 4 by a combined 9-2 score. Things were rolling along, but Dallas couldn’t finish things off on home ice in Game 5, falling 5-3 Wednesday.

The Avalanche had their season extended by D Cale Makar, who notched 2 goals on 5 shots, including a power-play marker in Wednesday’s victory as the Avs cashed as +132 underdogs. LW Artturi Lehkonen and C Nathan MacKinnon each added a goal and an assist in the win.

The high-scoring ways for Colorado continued in Game 5 as the Over improved to 3-1-1 in this series and 7-2-1 in 10 postseason games for the Avs. They have averaged 2.8 goals per game (GPG) in this series, and 4.2 GPG in the playoffs, while allowing 4.0 GPG to the Stars, and 3.5 GPG total in the postseason.

Stars at Avalanche projected goalies

Jake Oettinger (7-5-0, 2.27 GAA, .914 SV% — 2024 playoffs) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (6-4-0, 3.09 GAA, .890 SV% — 2024 playoffs)

Oettinger was tagged for 5 goals on 27 shots in Game 5 at home, the most goals he has allowed in a single game since inexplicably allowing 6 goals in a 7-6 OTW against the San Jose Sharks on the road back on March 5. He allowed 4 goals in the Game 1 loss in Dallas, bouncing back with 28 saves in the Game 2 victory.

Georgiev kicked aside 23 of the 26 shots in Game 5, and he has made 23 or fewer saves in 3 of the past 5 outings. When tasked with stopping more than 23 shots, he is 0-2 in this series.

Stars at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 3, Stars 2

Moneyline

The AVALANCHE (-120) have a little bit of momentum after the stunning Game 5 win, staving off elimination. Now, Colorado looks to force a decisive Game 7 back in the Metroplex. First things first, though.

The Avalanche have lost both home games in this series to the Stars (+100), so home-ice hasn’t exactly been a certainty. Still, Colorado has found a way to get it back to its place, the home crowd should be able to spur the team on, and it has put the Valeri Nichushkin distraction in the rear-view mirror, or so it seems. The 29-year-old Russian right wing, who had a team-best 9 playoff goals, was suspended for at least 6 months Monday and placed in Stage 3 of the NHL/NHL Players’ Association player assistance program.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Stars +1.5 (-250) are way too expensive on the puck line if you were looking for a little bit of insurance and are a bit conservative and don’t want to bet Dallas straight up.

Over the long haul, risking that type of money for such a small return is not a good betting strategy.

AVOID.

Over/Under

UNDER 6 (+100) is a good play in this huge Game 6 in the Mile High City.

While we’ve seen the Over cash at a 3-1-1 pace in this series, the Under is 1-0-1 in the 2 games at Ball Arena. For whatever reason, the Avs offense has fallen flat at home against the Stars, averaging just 1.0 GPG.

Expect to see the Avs paying the price defensively, blocking plenty of shots, while Georgiev is leaned upon to give his best. If Colorado can do more defensively, it will get this series back to Dallas for Game 7, while cashing the Under in the process.

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Stars 3

Moneyline

During the regular season, Colorado went 3-1-0 against Dallas. In this series, a high-octane Avs offense has been undone by a 7.4% shooting mark in 5-on-5 action. Colorado has been getting the better chances and is a value in this down-in-the-series spot on home ice.

TAKE COLORADO (-135).

Puck line/Against the spread

No value here. Colorado minus the cushion would be the play with a return closer to +180. Currently, the Avs line is -1.5 (+170).

PASS.

Over/Under

The total has gone Over in 7 of Colorado’s last 9 games against Dallas. and in 12 of the Avs’ last 15 overall.

Both sides have been held up by low-conversion percentages on 5-on-5 high-danger looks. During these playoffs, the Avalanche has scored 4.50 goals per game on an average of 33.9 shots. The Avs have lit the lamp on 33.3% of their power-play attempts.

BACK OVER 6.5 (-105).

Dallas Stars at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Dallas Stars at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Dallas Stars (48-20-9) take on the Colorado Avalanche (48-23-6) Sunday at Ball Arena. Puck drop is set for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Stars vs. Avalanche odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Stars had an 8-game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 setback on the road against the Chicago Blackhawks Saturday. This will be their 6th road game in their last 7. Their itinerary has been Arizona, San Jose, Vancouver, Seattle, back home for Edmonton, Chicago and now Colorado. The heavy travel hasn’t bothered C Roope Hintz, who has goals in 3 of 4 games.

The Avs are just 2-3-1 in their last 6 games after dropping Friday’s tilt 6-2 in Edmonton. An even bigger problem was star RW Mikko Rantanen left with an upper body injury that may keep him out of this game. The Avs trail the Stars for the top spot in the Central Division by 3 points with 5 to go.

Stars at Avalanche projected goalies

Jake Oettinger (31-13-4, 2.80 GAA, .903 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (37-16-4, 2.91 GAA, .900%, 2 SO)

“Otter” is coming off a 5-0 shutout over the mighty Oilers Wednesday. He stopped all 35 shots. He shut out the Seattle Kraken before that, turning aside all 17. He was great against Vancouver before that. In all, he has made 79 saves on 80 shots in his last 3 games. Colorado is a different story, though, as he has allowed 5 goals in both of his starts against them this season.

Georgiev has not been equally as steady, allowing 6, 4, 2 and 4 goals in his last 4 starts. He has been great against Dallas, though. He’s 3-0-0 with a 2.63 GAA and .915 SV% against the Stars this season. Last time he saw them, Feb. 27, he stopped 33 of 34 in a 5-1 win.

Stars at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 3, Stars 2

Moneyline

The Avs have won 4 straight against Dallas, and the Stars haven’t cracked the Avs at home since 2022. There are reasons to like each side here with the play of Oettinger alongside Rantanen’s potential absence. The heavy travel, the altitude and playing on consecutive days are why I’m going with the AVALANCHE -120.

The Avs are 29-7-1 at home this season and need this game if they want home-ice advantage.

Puck line/Against the spread

I’m not touching either side of the puck line here.

I like NATHAN MACKINNON OVER 4.5 SHOTS (-125).

He hit the mark in 2 of 3 matchups against Dallas this season, and if Rantanen is out, he’ll be even more aggressive.

Over/Under

This number is 2-0-1 in the 3 matchups this year, but there is reason to like the Under. Dallas is 3-7 O/U in their last 10. Colorado is 5-4-1 but could be missing one of the best players in the league. This total would be 1-2-1 in the last 4 in Colorado.

It’s the playoff push, and goals are usually at a premium.

Take the UNDER 6 (+100).

Jake Oettinger (33-10-11, 2.46 GAA, .918 SV%, 4 SO) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (34-16-5, 2.55 GAA, .919 SV%, 5 SO)

Oettinger has picked up 3 straight victories, allowing a total of just 5 goals on 78 shots during the span. He is 9-2-1 with a 3.07 GAA and .898 SV% in 12 starts in the month of March. That includes a 32-save win in a 7-3 win over the Avs on March 4.

Georgiev allowed 3 goals on 28 shots in a 4-2 loss against the Wild on Wednesday. He is still an impressive 8-4-1 with a 2.46 GAA and .907 SV% with 2 SO in 13 starts in March. Georgiev allowed 5 goals on just 19 shots in Dallas March 4, and he was pulled midway through the 2nd period.

Stars at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 4, Avalanche 3

Moneyline

The STARS (+120) are worth a look on the road in this huge Central Division battle, and potential playoff preview.

Ball Arena has been a problem for many opponents, but not Dallas. It is 6-2 in the past 8 trips to Colorado. The Stars are also 5-0 in the past 5 games inside the Central Division, while going 8-2 in the past 10 games on the road.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Stars +1.5 (-200) will cost you 2 times your potential return if you need some insurance and can’t play Dallas straight up.

AVOID, and focus on the money line, which is a much better value.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 6 (-115).

The Over is 7-2 in the past 9 games on the road for the Stars, while going 4-1-1 in the past 6 game inside the Central Division. The Over is 11-4-1 in the past 16 games overall for Dallas.

While the Under is 13-4-2 in the past 19 games inside the Central Division for the Avalanche, but the Over is 5-2 in the past 7 games against winning teams.

Dallas Stars at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Dallas Stars at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Dallas Stars (12-5-3) and Colorado Avalanche (11-6-1) meet Saturday at Ball Arena in Denver. Puck drop is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Stars vs. Avalanche odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Stars have the unenviable task of playing the Winnipeg Jets in Dallas Friday, then facing the quick turnaround on the road against the Avalanche. Dallas suffered the 5-4 loss in overtime Friday. These teams just met in Dallas, and the Stars fell 3-2 in a shootout Nov. 21.

The Avalanche were expected to face the Nashville Predators Friday, but their game was canceled due to a broken water main in downtown Nashville, which caused flooding inside of Bridgestone Arena.

Colorado last played Wednesday at home against Vancouver, suffering a 4-3 loss on home ice as the Over hit. The Under is still 5-1 in the past 6 games overall for the Avalanche, including the 3-2 SO win over the Stars in Dallas.

Scott Wedgewood (4-3-1, 3.23 GAA, .904 SV%) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (9-2-1, 2.40 GAA, .929 SV%, 1 SO)

Wedgewood makes his first appearance since Nov. 17, a 6-4 victory at Florida. He allowed 2 goals on 23 shots in that outing, coming out midway through the second period after being carted off due to an undisclosed upper-body injury.

Georgiev’s last appearance was in the 3-2 SO win on Monday in Dallas when he stopped 22 of the 24 shots he faced. He has been on fire in November, going 5-1-0 with a 1.98 GAA and .940 SV% with a shutout in Washington last Saturday.

Stars at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Stars 3

Moneyline

The AVALANCHE (-155) is a strong play at home against the Stars (+135), who face the tough turnaround with the back-to-back against Winnipeg at home and then in Denver.

Colorado was expected to be in the same boat, and it did travel Friday from Nashville, but it is more rested after its game was canceled. In fact, the Avs haven’t played since Wednesday, so it enters much more rested than the Stars, who played less than 24 hours ago.

Puck line/Against the spread

The AVALANCHE -1.5 (+145) is worth a roll of the dice on the money line against the road-weary Stars +1.5 (-190).

Colorado took care of Dallas in the Metroplex last week, and it should be able to do the same on home ice, especially since it is more rested, and the Stars are forced to play the backup Wedgewood, who could be a little rusty after some time off due to injury.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (+100) is worth a look, especially at even money.

Colorado’s offense has found itself in November after a mini slump at the end of October. In fact, since Oct. 29, the Avalanche is averaging 3.9 goals per game (GPG) in the past 10 outings, which is a tick better than its season average of 3.4 GPG, which ranks 9th in the NHL.

Dallas is now on a 10-1-2 Over run in the past 13 games after going Over the total again against Winnipeg on Friday in a 5-4 OT loss.

This is just the second back-to-back for the Stars this season, and they did hit the Under in the first instance Oct. 25 in Boston, but that was also with starter Jake Oettinger in between the pipes, not the backup Wedgewood.
