The Dallas Cowboys have a big matchup with the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, with playoff implications in a tight NFC race for the top seeds. Dallas received some good news on the health front on Wednesday when safety Malik Hooker and defensive tackle Trysten Hill were activated off of the Reserve/COVID list.

Thursday was a continuation of the’ good fortune. Cornerback Jourdan Lewis has been on the COVID list since Friday and missed the Cowboys’ 56-14 beatdown of the Washington Football Team, improving their record to 11-4. When the Cardinals line up offensively this Sunday, however, Lewis will be in the Cowboys’ secondary as he returned to practice after being activated from the COVID list.

Lewis is having quite the season after signing a three-year deal worth up to $16.5 million back in March. The former Michigan Wolverine has already set career highs in interceptions (3) and passes defended (11) and needs just seven tackles to surpass his career-best set last season at 59.

Rookie cornerback Kelvin Joseph got his first NFL start against Washington in place of Lewis and performed well by registering three tackles and allowing just one reception on five targets in 57 snaps. With Lewis back, the Cowboys have a formidable cornerback group.

The Cowboys’ secondary will have a challenge trying to neutralize the Cardinals’ passing attack with quarterback Kyler Murray having wide receivers Christian Kirk and A.J. Green at his disposal. With Lewis added back to the mix, the Cowboys’ defense gets a much-needed boost as they look to put their best foot forward in the seasons final two games.

Cowboys’ rookie CB Nahshon Wright added to Reserve/COVID list

The hits just keep on coming for the Dallas Cowboys. Rookie cornerback Nahshon Wright, a third-round pick, has been added to the Reserve/COVID list and will miss the Cowboys’ matchup Thursday night with the New Orleans Saints. He joins right tackle Terence Steele and head coach Mike McCarthy as the most recent members of the organization to contract the virus.

Wright has appeared in 10 games this season, logging five defensive snaps as and 208 on special teams. That’s where he had his only impact play of the season against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 10. Wright recovered a punt that was blocked by defensive end Dorance Armstrong for a touchdown in the Cowboys’ 43-3 blowout win.

The former Oregon State Beaver will now enter into a 10-day quarantine and will have to have two negative tests within 24 hours of each other to return to the team.

With the Cowboys looking to get past a recent slump, they certainly hope Wright is the last player to get COVID for the foreseeable future.
