No. 1 prospect Cooper Flagg sets first three official college visits

Flagg, the consensus top-ranked recruit in the class of 2024, has his first three official college visits planned out.

Five-star prospect Cooper Flagg, the consensus top-ranked recruit in the class of 2024, reportedly has his first three official college visits planned for this fall.

Flagg announced this month he planned to reclassify from 2025 to 2024 after a productive summer of performances in competitions across the country. The reclassification was expected given rumors of the potential move emerged months ago.

The 6-foot-8 forward from the Montverde Academy has apparently identified his first visits after his reclassification. His mother, Kelly, told Travis Branham of 247Sports that he has visits to Duke, Kansas and UConn scheduled.

Flagg is expected to be a highly recruited one-and-done college prospect. He recently took an unofficial visit to Duke and will take his official trip to Durham this fall. He has also been offered by Michigan, Texas, UCF and Villanova among other programs.

He was the Maine Gatorade Player of the Year while playing for Nokomis Regional High School prior to arriving at the Montverde Academy. He is highly touted for his defensive ability and has an evolving offensive game that will translate well to the next level.

Flagg will meet the cutoff date to be draft-eligible in 2025; he turns 18 in December 2024. He will likely be projected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft ahead of Ace Bailey, Dylan Harper, Tre Johnson and Dink Pate among others.

Cooper Flagg’s buzzer beater was yet another insane moment for the HS star

Class of 2024 high school basketball star Cooper Flagg hit a crazy buzzer-beater in the SLAM Summer Classic.

There’s been plenty written about the skills of now-class-of-20024 star Cooper Flagg. He can get to the rim. He can shoot. He can dribble. He defends well and talks his trash.

A video made the rounds on Saturday night showing yet another attribute of the five-star high school forward. He has a step-back and he has ice in his veins.

Flagg hit a step-back, buzzer-beater 3-pointer at the SLAM Summer Classic to tie the score at 142 (!) and send the game to overtime. He was mobbed by teammates and fans as the announcers went wild in the clips circulating Twitter posted by the NBA.

You can see more highlights on the NBA YouTube page, including a fun alley-oop in the first clip (don’t be expecting a lot of hard-nose defense in these clips, if the 142 points didn’t tip you off already).

Flagg helped his team win in overtime.

Recruiting is still ongoing for the No. 1 player in the class of 2024, as a dozen schools have offered the 6-foot-8 power forward. It’s unclear who is in the lead for the player, who only reclassified from the class of 2025 this month, but if you’re looking for any indicators you can get, Duke did tweet a video of Flagg. Which very much might not mean a thing, but we appreciate the lack of subtlety in place of the cryptic messages recruiters and players often enjoy using.

Montverde standout Cooper Flagg reclassifies to 2024 class

Big news for the 2025 NBA draft.

It’s been a busy week and a half for Cooper Flagg, the 6-foot-8 talent who has the basketball world watching his every move.

He first hit the headlines in early August after a rumor swirled that he beat NBA all-star Bradley Beal during a 1-on-1 game at Jayson Tatum’s camp.

After the Brian Scalabrine-led buzz was laid to rest, it was back to business as usual for the arguably top prospect in the nation (regardless of class).

Until now.

Flagg has announced that he is reclassifying to the Class of 2024 from the ’25 group, which gives him a head start on the next chapter of his basketball career, including the professional ranks.

Montverde Academy (Fla.) shared the news via social media:

The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor added exciting context to the news for NBA fans.

Flagg’s defensive abilities are what originally put him on the recruiting map, a mix of size and speed with the agility to cover a ton of space. Recently, though, his offensive output has turned heads nationally, culminating during his EYBL campaign, where he averaged 25.4 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 6.9 blocks.

The heightened attention builds off the Victor Wembanyama Effect, the worldwide sensation who went No. 1 in the 2023 NBA draft and has been called a “generational talent.”

The height mixed with guard-like skills off the dribble, the range of a seasoned scoring threat … plus top-level defense and rebounding? There’s room for that on an NBA roster.

And now, the league might not have to wait as long to get it.

Of course, Flagg also has a near-open pass to a few top colleges, from Duke, Kansas, and UCLA to UConn, Villanova, Kansas State, and more.

Cooper Flagg denies rumor of embarassing Bradley Beal at Jayson Tatum’s camp

This tale, it seems, was too good to be true.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

If the beef between rising NBA prospect Cooper Flagg and Phoenix Suns star Bradley Beal sounded a little bit too good to be true, there’s a reason. It might very well have been a made-up tale.

The reports grew out of a rumored embarrassment of Beal by Flagg during a one-on-one contest at star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum’s summer basketball camp.

The rumor took on a life of its own on social media, prompting Flagg to come clean about it in a video circulated by Bleacher Report Hoops. In it, he said “I’m making enemies, first Brad Beal — that was fake though; pointing it out the mic, that was fake, fake business.”

“Me and Brad Beal never played one-on-one, I’ve got no beef with Brad, alright?” he added for good measure, pushing back against the colorful rumor making the rounds in an offseason NBA media sphere thirsty for content.

Cooper Flagg has addressed the Bradley Beal/Brian Scalabrine rumor

Cooper Flagg took to the mic to tell Bleacher Report whether he beat Bradley Beal in one-on-one, as Brian Scalabrine reported.

Brian Scalabrine, a former Celtics player and current team analyst, shared a rumor he heard that high school junior Cooper Flagg, who has an argument as the best prospect in the nation regardless of class, beat NBA all-star Bradley Beal during a 1-on-1 game at Jayson Tatum’s camp.

It led the basketball discourse cycle for 24 hours, as tens of thousands of people liked and retweeted posts about it. Beal himself commented and said it didn’t happen. But still, some (apparently) wondered — was Beal lying to save face?

Flagg has cleared the air altogether, telling Bleacher Report that not only was it “fake business,” he and Beal never played one-on-one.

And that puts an end to the dumbest (and funniest) basketball story of the month. We love the NBA offseason!

Scal, we’d love to hear who told you the rumor … it sounds like you may need a new source.

Bradley Beal responds to rumor that Cooper Flagg beat him in 1-on-1 game

Brian Scalabrine said high school junior Cooper Flagg was apparently putting work in against Bradley Beal, and the Suns star is confused about the rumor.

As you may or may not have seen, the latest Cooper Flagg viral moment on Twitter wasn’t a highlight. It was a rumor mentioned by former Boston Celtics player and current team analyst for NBCS Boston Brian Scalabrine that got picked up by Heavy.

“I heard a rumor that my boy Cooper Flagg was at Jayson Tatum’s camp and he was busting Brad Beal 1-on-1, and Brad Beal got mad at him. Started cussing him out,” Scalabrine apparently said on Tuesday’s Starting Lineup show. “This dude is a major trash-talker. … So I guess the rumor is that Brad Beal and him were squaring off 1-on-1 and Brad Beal was taking it lightly. It’s a high school kid. Then Cooper started giving it to him. And I guess the rumor is, Cooper started talking trash and Bradley Beal got mad. Really mad.”

There’s been a lot of squabbling about whether or not the Phoenix Suns have a super team or if Beal is no longer even a top-40 player, let alone potentially a top-20 one like he was a couple of years back, but it’s tough to believe that Flagg was cooking him — though there are truthful elements about Tatum’s camp and Flagg being a trash talker. Plus, the Montverde Academy forward is several inches taller.

Beal responded to a post on Instagram about it:

“Huh?” he wrote, with two laughing emojis and two caps.

So there you have it. Flagg didn’t bust Beal in one-on-one. Though, of course, that’s what an NBA player losing to a high school junior would say … so maybe this isn’t proof by any means …

Hopefully, Tatum himself will chime in soon to clear the air on whether Beal won or if Scalabrine is closer to a Twitter user than he is Woj.

Rumor: NBA prospect Cooper Flagg embarassed Bradley Beal at Jayson Tatum’s summer camp

NBA scouts are paying close attention to his growth, and many believe he will be a future No. 1 pick in the draft, possibly in either 2025 or 2026.

Sixteen-year-old basketball phenom Cooper Flagg is the next big prospect coming to the NBA if league scouts and draft analysts are to be believed.

Word of just how good the 6-foot-8 teenager is trickled out of star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum‘s basketball camp.

Former Celtics center (and current Boston broadcaster) Brian Scalabrine shared via Heavy’s Sean Deveney that Flagg, while at Tatum’s camp, beat Phoenix Suns star Bradley Beal one-on-one.

“I heard a rumor that my boy Cooper Flagg was at Jayson Tatum’s camp, and he was busting Brad Beal 1-on-1, and Brad Beal got mad at him. Started cussing him out,” White Mamba said. “This dude is a major trash-talker.”

“The rumor is that Brad Beal and him were squaring off 1-on-1 and Brad Beal was taking it lightly,” he added. “It’s a high school kid. Then Cooper started giving it to him. And I guess the rumor is, Cooper started talking trash and Bradley Beal got mad. Really mad.”

Flagg has been impressive of late, dominating the 16-year-old group at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam in Atlanta, averaging 25.4 points, 13 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 6.9 blocked shots per game.

NBA scouts are paying close attention to his growth, and many believe he will be a No. 1 pick in the draft, possibly 2025 or 2026.
