Will the Bills have a position battle at center during 2024 training camp?

An idea for the #Bills this offseason:

The Buffalo Bills have to replace Mitch Morse in 2024, but is it as seamless as we think it’s going to be?

Bleacher Report named a position battle for each NFL team heading into the 2024 offseason that should be watched. While the Bills do have a revamped roster, most would not look at the center spot on the offensive line as one of the most important spots to keep an eye on.

But B/R makes a good case.

When Morse was released in a salary cap move, general manager Brandon Beane noted that left tackle Connor McGovern is slated as Buffalo’s next center in front of quarterback Josh Allen. Then came the 2024 NFL draft.

There, the Bills used a fifth-round pick on Georgia center Sedrick Van Pran.

McGovern played well at guard in 2023. The idea here from B/R: if Van Pran proves himself… if it’s not broke, don’t fix it? That might be a thought the Bills coaching staff has if the rookie can start at center–And that’s not the worst idea.

B/R’s full breakdown can be found below:

The Buffalo Bills’ battle at receiver is going to be another important one. They have to figure out who will play what roles in a post-Stefon Diggs world. Ultimately, they have a decent number of options and help from the tight end duo of Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox if they need time to figure things out.

Replacing Mitch Morse could prove to be just as important. The center is often charged with being the primary communicator on the offensive line, and Morse has been starting for the Bills for five years.

The Bills essentially have two options to start at the pivot. They can move Connor McGovern over from left guard to center. It’s been the public plan since the spring. However, drafting Sedrick Van Pran in the fifth round opened up a new possibility.

If Van Pran can prove he’s a worthy starter in OTAs, training camp and the preseason, it could allow the Bills to keep McGovern at left guard. That would allow David Edwards to be the interior swing option, while La’el Collins would be the swing tackle.

Van Pran has already played a lot of football, starting 43 games at center for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Given the new-look receiver room, protection for Josh Allen is going to be as important as ever for the Bills. If Van Pran can challenge to be the starting center, it would be a huge boost for the offense.

1 pending free agent Chargers should target: AFC East Edition

Listing one free agent from the Patriots, Bills, Jets and Dolphins who could be a fit for the Chargers.

The Chargers won’t be aggressive when it comes to signing free agents, as they’re currently $22.1 million over the projected salary cap.

While they’re cash-strapped, general manager Joe Hortiz will make some moves to have some spendings available to them so they can sign some.

That said, I will list one pending free agent from each team in the NFL that could be a realistic target for L.A.

Next up is the AFC East.

PFF: 5 worst-graded #Bills players on offense in Wild Card vs. the #Steelers:

The Bills (11-6) had a few players that stood out above the rest.

On offense, the Bills were led by quarterback Josh Allen and his dual-threat skillset.

In terms of the players who helped Allen pull out the win, Buffalo will hope such efforts improve from some players throughout the rest of the 2023 playoffs as they aim for the Super Bowl.

According to Pro Football Focus, they’ll need these players to step it up moving forward.

Report card: #Bills top #Steelers, 31-17:

The Buffalo Bills have worked their way through the Pittsburgh Steelers and are now onto the Divisional round of the AFC postseason.

Buffalo put together an effort that was strong throughout the contest. But not all three phases. While not a team that has covered the spread often this season, Pittsburgh was behind it throughout most of the game because of a strong effort up-and-down the Bills roster.

With that, here’s Bills Wire’s report card following the team’s 31-17 Wild Card win:

Harrison Smith comments on dirty hits in today’s NFL

Smith took to Twitter to discuss late and dirty hits in the NFL with some important context

The way the game is trending in the National Football League is lighting up some interesting discussions, especially about hits.

During the wild card game between the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers, Bills center Connor McGovern hit Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in the back while he was trying to bring down Stefon Diggs.

The Twitter account MLFootball commented how it was disgusting and it brought a rare tweet from Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith, who broke down why hits like this were coming.

It’s nice to see these kinds of explanations from players, as it adds necessary context that most people don’t have, as they don’t spend time in meeting rooms.

In the same thread, Smith was asked about Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph whose low hit tore the ACL of Los Angeles Rams tight end Tyler Higbee, three weeks after the same hit tore the ACL and MCL of Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson.

What Smith said is something that hasn’t been discussed nearly enough in the space of both media and social media. The hits from Joseph aren’t dirty but a consequence of trying to improve concussion rate in the NFL.

Knowledge is power and we got some from Smith.

Every Penn State player in the NFL playoffs in 2024

Here is every former Penn State football player on an NFL playoff team’s roster in 2024.

Another NFL postseason is set to get underway, and there is a good chance at least one team playing in the Super Bowl will have a Penn State player on the roster. All but two teams in this year’s NFL playoffs have at least one Penn State player on the roster this year. The top seeds in each conference have multiple Penn State players on the roster, seemingly making it more likely Penn State will see a former player earn a Super Bowl ring.

In all, a total of 64 Super Bowl rings have been won by a former Penn State player. Last year’s Super Bowl had just one former Penn State player on the field, but Miles Sanders and the Philadelphia Eagles came up short of winning the big game. There is an excellent chance there will be more than one former Nittany Lion competing in the Super Bowl this postseason.

The Los Angeles Rams and Cleveland Browns are the only two teams in the NFL postseason without a Penn State player on the roster. Here is a look at every Penn State player on an NFL playoff team’s roster this postseason.

The Bills (8-6) had a few players that stood out above the rest in this one. On offense, the Bills were led by running back James Cook against a usually stout Cowboys (10-4) defense.

But not every player helped pull out the win. If Buffalo is to crack the 2023 postseason, they’ll need better performances from these players.

According to Pro Football Focus, they’ll need these players specifically to start to play at a high level.
