Washington, Florida State 3-4 in College Football Playoff rankings

What teams sit where in the next-to-last College Football Playoff Rankings

The penultimate College Football Playoff Rankings were released on Tuesday.

No surprise in the 1 and 2 slots as Georgia and Michigan sit atop the heap.

Undefeated teams are third and fourth heading into their conference championship games.

Washington sits at three despite being an underdog in the Pac-12 title clash against Oregon, which is fifth.

That game could be considered a play-in for one of the four spots.

Behind the Huskies are the undefeated Florida State Seminoles.

Despite being without star quarterback Jordan Travis, FSU heads into the ACC Championship Game against Louisville in the fourth slot.

Ohio State, which lost to Michigan, is sixth, Texas is seventh and Alabama is eight.

Remember, Texas handed Alabama its lone loss in the regular season should the Crimson Tide beat Georgia in the SEC title tilt.

Clemson moves up a spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings

Clemson moves up a spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers are coming off a 16-7 revenge rivalry win on the road against South Carolina, and the performance was enough for

Clemson to move up in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.
After joining the rankings for the first time last week and earning the No.24 spot, Clemson (8-4, 4-4 ACC) has moved up to No.23. The Tigers likely could have made a bigger jump in the rankings, but their offensive performance against the Gamecocks is a difficult thing to ignore.

Clemson is heading to a bowl, but we will have to wait to hear where, when, and who against, though multiple interesting opponents such as Oregon State and Tennessee have been rumored. We will find out on December 3 about the Tigers’ fate.

Latest College Football Playoff rankings revealed. How far did Ohio State drop after loss to Michigan?

Is there still hope? #GoBucks

Ohio State fell short once again to Michigan, this time with a ton on the line. The Buckeyes were ranked No. 2 in the College Football Playoff rankings before they headed up to Ann Arbor, and the big question was how far OSU would drop in the CFP rankings and if there is still a chance at getting into the final four teams in the last playoff.

On Tuesday, those rankings were revealed and Ohio State dropped down to No. 6. Ahead of OSU was Georgia (1) at No. 1 still, followed by Michigan (2), Washington (3), Florida State (4) Oregon (5), Ohio State (6) Texas (7), Alabama (8), Missouri (9) and Penn State (10).

With where the Buckeyes are, it’s going to be awfully hard to get back into position to get back into the College Football Playoff picture, but there is a very slim path should several things break the right way.

There’s just one set of CFP rankings left, and those will be revealed on Sunday after the conference championship games take place over this weekend.

Penn State ranked no. 10 in penultimate College Football Playoff Top 25

Where is Penn State ranked in the next-to-last College Football Playoff rankings? A pretty good spot.

The College Football Playoff will be set next weekend, which means Tuesday night’s rankings gave us all a bit of a preview of what to expect from the selection committee. While Penn State won’t sniff the playoff this season, the Nittany Lions are sitting in a good spot to go to another New Years Six bowl game.

Penn State moved up to no. 10 in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings. The Nittany Lions benefitted from a loss by Louisville, who will get a chance to move back up with a game against Florida State in this week’s ACC championship game.

At no. 10 with conference championships games coming up this weekend, Penn State has an excellent chance to be playing in a New Years Six bowl game, no matter how the conference championship games play out. After the top four teams are selected for the College Football Playoff, there are still four bowl games that need to fill bowl spots. Only one spot is guaranteed to the ACC with a spot in the Orange Bowl. And one spot will be reserved for the highest-ranked Group of 5 conference champion. The Orange Bowl spot will go to either Florida State or Louisville, and Tulane is ahead of Liberty for the non-power conference spot. So that leaves 6 spots to fill. Penn State is in a good spot.

The top four teams this week are Georgia, Michigan, Washington, and Florida State, respectively. Ohio State was hit hard by the committee by falling from no. 2 down to no. 6 by the selection committee. That was a bit of a stunner given how close they lost on the road at Michigan this past weekend.

Ohio State’s drop is great news for the Pac-12, as the winner of the Pac-12 conference championship game between Washington and Oregon is all but assured a spot in the playoff. Ohio State’s only hope appears to be Oregon topping Washington and Florida State losing to Louisville in the ACC Championship Game. Neither is that far-fetched.

Here is this week’s College Football Playoff Top 25:

  1. Georgia
  2. Michigan
  3. Washington
  4. Florida State
  5. Oregon
  6. Ohio State
  7. Texas
  8. Alabama
  9. Missouri
  10. Penn State
  11. Ole Miss
  12. Oklahoma
  13. LSU
  14. Louisville
  15. Arizona
  16. Iowa
  17. Notre Dame
  18. Oklahoma State
  19. NC DState
  20. Oregon State
  21. Tennessee
  22. Tuulane
  23. Clemson
  24. Liberty
  25. Kansas State

Oregon Ducks move up in penultimate College Football Playoff ranking

The Oregon Ducks moved up in the penultimate College Football Playoff rankings with a win over Oregon State.

We are still devoid of any major chaos taking place in the world of college football this season, but that will potentially change over the next few days as we get into conference championship week, with some of the best teams in the nation squaring off against each other.

Whether it’s Oregon and Washington, or Georgia and Alabama, several top 10 teams will play with a chance to get into the playoff. There are also critically important games between Texas and Oklahoma State, Michigan and Iowa, and Florida State and Louisville. After the weekend, we will officially know the College Football Playoff standings.

After Week 13 and the end of the regular season, here’s how the committee sees the standings currently:

How to watch the Week 13 College Football Playoff rankings show

The final College Football Playoff rankings before bowls are announced will be revealed tonight.

With the college football regular season now in the books, the College Football Playoff selection committee will unveil its final rankings before the bowl announcements are made on Tuesday evening. These rankings will be the final rankings before this weekend’s conference championship games and should help solidify some of the bowl projections, although this weekend could lead to some key changes to the playoff picture, as well as the entire New Years Six lineup.

Penn State moved up one spot in the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 this week following a win and a loss by Louisville, and a similar result could be coming with the playoff rankings this week as well. Penn State was ranked no. 11 last week, putting them in a decent spot for a potential New Years Six bowl game.

Here’s when you should tune in to see the rankings:

  • Date: Tuesday, Nov. 28
  • Time: 7 p.m. ET
  • TV Channel: ESPN
  • Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free)

Who will be the top four?

Washington finally nudged ahead of Florida State in last week’s playoff rankings, bumping the undefetaed Seminoles into the first spot out of the playoff. Georgia, Ohio State, and Michigan held the top three spots, but Michigan topping Ohio State last weekend figures to have a bit of an impact on this week’s top four.

Ohio State could have a case to be made to stay in the top four, but that appears unlikely with four undefetaed power conference options in play. Expect Georgia and Michigan to hold the top two spots in one way or another, and Washington will keep its top-four ranking, and possibly move up to no. 3. Florida State should move back into the top four with Ohio State potentially being the first team out. Oregon would be right in position as well at no. 6.

Georgia, Michigan, Florida State, and Washington will all be playing in conference championship games this week. Washington’s matchup with Oregon carries the most weight, but Florida State’s ACC championship game against Louisville is well worth watching too. Michigan is a heavy favorite against Iowa in the Big Ten and Georgia is favored but playing Alabama is nothing to take for granted.

Where will Penn State be ranked?

Expect Penn State to move back into the top 10 this week. After moving up to no. 11 last week, thumping Michigan State in its final game in DEtroit, and with Louisville losing, Penn State should be in prime position to move back into the top 10, which is also good news for Michigan and Ohio State as far as the playoffs are concerned.

Penn State’s ranking will continue to be boosted by the possible rise of Iowa. The Hawkeyes are 10-2 and were ranked no. 17 in last week’s rankings. Iowa clinched the Big Ten West division and lost to Penn State 31-0 earlier in the season. If West Virginia (now 8-4) can work its way into the top 25, that would be another data point in Penn State’s favor.

Predicting what the College Football Playoff rankings will be after Week 13

We predict what the College Football Playoff rankings will be when released on Tuesday. How far will Ohio State fall? #CFBPlayoff

College football never seems to disappoint and that has been true so far in 2023 as well. The regular season is now over, and with Ohio State losing to Michigan, there’s going to be a bit of a shakeup at the top that the College Football Playoff committee will have to sort out.

It’ll be very telling on whether the Buckeyes can still crash the CFP party based upon how far OSU falls in the rankings that are released on Tuesday. And while Ohio State was losing its way against Michigan, the other top contenders like Georgia, Washington, Florida State, Oregon, Texas, and Alabama all won — albeit some in dramatic fashion. You have to expect all of those teams will remain in the mix as we head into the conference championship games next weekend.

We do our best to try and sort out what the CFP committee will do after each week’s set of games and we’ve been pretty good at it so far, so why not continue those efforts.

Here’s our prediction on what the College Football Playoff rankings could look like when the committee unveils the fifth set of rankings on Tuesday with the regular season coming to a close.

Everything the College Football Playoff committee said about Ohio State after latest rankings

Here’s the CFP committee’s song and dance after the latest College Football Playoff rankings reveal. #GOBucks

We received the fourth College Football Playoff rankings of the 2023 season on Tuesday night, and this time Ohio State remained at No. 2 behind the Georgia Bulldogs.

Behind the Buckeyes were Michigan (3), Washington (4), Florida State (5), Oregon (6), Texas (7), Alabama (8), Missouri (9) and Louisville (10).

One of the great things (we think) about these rankings is the committee is held accountable with a media teleconference to discuss the conversations and logic that went into ranking teams. In other words, they are asked how the sausage was made, and we see the ugly insides.

We’re a part of those conversations and like to bring you everything Executive Director Bill Hancock and Committee Chair Boo Corrigan say about Ohio State when questioned.

Here’s how the conversation about the Buckeyes went after Week 12 of the 2023 college football season from the committee.

Iowa falls one spot in latest College Football Playoff Rankings

Despite winning over Illinois and clinching the Big Ten West, Iowa dropped one spot in the latest College Football Playoff Rankings.

Despite its 15-13 win over Illinois to clinch the Big Ten West, the Iowa Hawkeyes actually dropped one spot in the latest College Football Playoff Rankings.

Iowa checks in at No. 17 nationally. Arizona’s 42-18 win over then-No. 22 Utah was enough to catapult the Wildcats up two spots in the rankings and in front of Iowa.

The Hawkeyes join No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Michigan and No. 11 Penn State as Big Ten squads within the rankings.

As Iowa readies for a Black Friday date against Nebraska, chances are the Hawkeyes won’t spend a ton of time worrying about their spot in the latest CFP Rankings.

Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz shared what he liked from the win over the Illini in his Tuesday press conference previewing the Huskers.

“I think the win was really emblematic of Big Ten football in November. Full team effort, full 60 minutes, the whole nine yards, another close game. Really proud of our guys and the things that they did especially in the last 15, 16 minutes.

“You think about getting the stop on third down, great play by Castro coming in to get the quarterback and giving up a field goal instead of a touchdown. Certainly was pivotal at the end of the game. Two good last possessions by the defense certainly to get off the field two times. Good punt return by Wetjen, and then the offense taking advantage of that. One of the few times in the second half we had decent field position and capitalized on that.

“Then the last possession, we converted a third and eight to be able to keep the ball and run the clock out. Just a really good job by the entire football team. I’m guessing it will be the same thing this week, same type of game as we move to Nebraska,” Ferentz said.

Iowa battles Nebraska on Friday, Nov. 24 at 11 a.m. CT on CBS.
