ESPN FPI: Preseason rankings, projected records for every CFB team

ESPN’s FPI ranks the preseason CFB top-ten and projects schools’ chances of going undefeated, winning it all.

It’s still early, but we have a solid outlook on which programs are expected to compete as college football’s elites in 2022.

ESPN’s ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) takes a look at every college football team’s projected odds at a number of different scenarios, including chances of going undefeated, winning the conference and winning the national title.

ESPN defines the FPI as:

A measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily. FPI data from seasons prior to 2019 may not be complete.

Below we take a look at the FPI’s preseason top-ten, and its projections for how each team will fare in 2022. You can find the full ranking of all 131 teams here.
