Clemson gymnastics falls to Iowa State in the NCAA Tournament

Clemson’s inaugural season ends in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Gainesville, Fla. – The Clemson Tigers scored a 195.625 in round one of the NCAA Gainesville Regional, falling to Iowa State, who scored a 195.875. The loss ends the Tigers’ inaugural team season, one that saw Clemson finish second in the conference, earn an ACC Coach of the Year honors, have the Regional Administrator of the Year and make the program’s first NCAA Tournament.

VAULT (Team Total: 49.200)

Clemson led off the meet on vault as the designated home team for the meet. Rebecca Wells led off the rotation with a solid 9.825 for the Tigers, followed by Molly Arnold’s 9.85. Lauren Rutherford and late-add Trinity Brown each earned 9.875 on the back-half of the lineup, sandwiched around Madison Minner’s 9.775, giving the Tigers a 49.200 team score and the lead after one rotation.

BARS (Team Total: 48.375)

The Tigers seemed to struggle on bars in the second rotation, but the brightest spot was Kaitlin DeGuzman’s high-score of 9.900. Rebecca Wells earned a 9.775 in the anchor position, followed by Lilly Lippeatt with a 9.75 and Eve Jackson with a 9.675. Trinity Webb recovered from a fall to stick the landing and score a 9.275 and a 97.575 team score for the Tigers through two rotations.

BEAM (Team Total: 48.975)

Rebecca Wells was the beam star for the Tigers, scoring a 9.900 to lead Clemson. Freshman Quinn Kuhl tied her season-high with a 9.80, followed by Brie Clark with a 9.775 and Sierra Church and Kielyn McCright each with a 9.75. Clemson held a 146.550 team score through three rotations to trail Iowa State by .100 heading into rotation four.

FLOOR (Team Total: 49.075)

The Tigers finished the day on floor, with Lauren Rutherford, Lilly Lippeatt, and Eve Jackson tying for the highest score for the Tigers with three 9.825s. Brie Clark and Rebecca Wells each tallied 9.8 to give the Tigers a 49.075 on floor and a 195.625 team score.

Clemson gymnastics ready to face Iowa State in first NCAA Regional

Clemson will participate in their first ever NCAA Regional.

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson gymnastics opens its first-ever NCAA Regional competition on Thursday afternoon, taking on Iowa State in first round action at 2:00 p.m. The dual meet is set to be streamed on ESPN+.

The winner of Clemson’s dual meet against Iowa State will face Florida, Missouri, and Georgia in a quad meet on Friday, April 5, while the other portion of the regional includes Utah, Michigan State, Towson, and Maryland. The regional final will be held on Sunday, April 7.

2024 AAI Award Nominee Rebecca Wells was selected as an individual all-around competitor, while Molly Arnold was selected as both a vault and floor specialist. Kielyn McCright will serve as an individual event specialist on beam, and Brie Clark on floor.

The Tigers are coming off a second-place finish at the 2024 ACC Championships, where seven Tigers earned ACC All-Championship honors. Lilly Lippeatt, a redshirt freshman from Mason, Ohio, and Clemson’s first freshman signee was named the ACC’s Newcomer of the Year for the 2024 season, while Amy Smith was named ACC Coach of the Year in her first competitive season guiding the Tigers.

The Tigers will start the dual on vault and rotate in olympic order (vault, bars, beam, floor).

Clemson gymnastics earns program’s first NCAA Tournament

Clemson gymnastics is going to the NCAA Tournament in their first season as a program.

CLEMSON – The Clemson gymnastics team has qualified for the 2024 NCAA Tournament, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the NCAA. The Tigers will travel to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the first round against Iowa State on Thursday, April 4.

The winner of Clemson’s April 4 dual meet against Iowa State will face Florida, Missouri, and Georgia in a quad meet on Friday, April 5, while the other portion of the regional includes Utah, Michigan State, Towson, and Maryland. The regional final will be held on Sunday, April 7.

Six Tigers Earn Nine All-Conference Honors in Tigers Inaugural Season

Clemson gymnastics is well-represented with all-conference honors.

Clemson, S.C. – Six Tigers have earned nine different All-Conference spots, it was announced today by the conference office ahead of tonight’s ACC Championship. The Tigers had the second-most All-Conference nods, behind NC State.

The All-ACC Gymnastics team includes the top six on vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise, respectively, based on National Qualifying Score (NQS) following the regular season. The top two All-Arounders also earned first team honors.

Redshirt senior Rebecca Wells earned three All-ACC distinctions, including vault, beam and all-around. The 2024 AAI Award Nominee goes into tonight’s ACC Championship with the highest NQS in the conference on beam. Joining Wells with multiple honors is redshirt sophomore Molly Arnold on vault and floor. Arnold owns the highest vault score in the league this season (9.975) and is fourth in the league on floor.

Graduate Kaitlin DeGuzman and redshirt freshman Lilly Lippeatt both earned All-ACC honors on bars, while redshirt sophomores Kielyn McCright (beam) and Brie Clark (floor) rounded out the individual honors. Clark has the highest floor exercise NQS in the conference following the regular season.

The Tigers are set to compete in the 2024 ACC Championships tonight at 7:00 p.m. on ACC Network. Clemson is the No. 2 seed and begins the event on bars.

Clemson drops final meet of the regular season to UCLA

Clemson falls in their final regular season meet.

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. – Selena Harris tallied a 39.900 all-around score to lead No. 11 UCLA past No. 27 Clemson, 198.550-196.825, on Saturday afternoon inside Pauley Pavilion. Clemson tallied a season-high 49.450 on vault, highlighted by Molly Arnold’s 9.975, in their final regular-season meet of the inaugural season.

BARS

The Tigers started the afternoon on bars and tallied a 48.700 team score. Lilly Lippeatt led the Tigers on the event with a 9.875, while freshman Trinity Webb earned a 9.825. Kaitlin DeGuzman and Eve Jackson each had a 9.800, while Rebecca Wells rounded out the scoring with a 9.400.

Clemson trailed UCLA, 48.700-49.475 after the first rotation.

VAULT

Clemson turned in its highest team vault score of the season, a 49.450, in its second rotation. Molly Arnold turned in a career-high 9.975, scoring a 10.0 from the first judge, to lead the Tigers, while Eve Jackson picked up a 9.900. Rebecca Wells recovered after struggling on bars, scoring a 9.875, while Maggie Holman and Madison Minner rounded out the scoring with a 9.850 each.

UCLA stretched its lead over the Tigers to 99.100-98.150, thanks to Selena Harris’s two 10.0 scores for the Bruins, on vault and bars.

 

FLOOR

In the teams’ third rotation, Clemson finished with a 49.375 on floor. Eve Jackson continued her strong day for the Tigers with a career-high 9.925, followed by Lilly Lippeatt with a 9.900 in the leadoff spot. Molly Arnold tallied a 9.875, followed by Lauren Rutherford with a 9.850 and Rebecca Wells with a 9.825.

UCLA led Clemson 148.775-147.525 with one rotation remaining.

BEAM

In the final rotation of the day, Rebecca Wells and Kielyn McCright led the Tigers with 9.925 each, which tied a career-high for McCright. Lilly Lippeatt led off with a 9.875, just 0.25 shy of her season high, while Sierra Church tied that mark in the anchor spot.

UCLA finished with a 198.550 overall score to the Tigers’ 196.825, thanks to their third 10 of the day, this time from Chae Campbell on floor.

In the all-around competition, Wells led the Tigers with a 39.025, while Jackson tallied a 38.600. UCLA’s Harris, who earned two 10s and two 9.95s, finished the all-around with a 39.900.

Clemson returns to action next Saturday, traveling to Greensboro, N.C. for the 2024 ACC Championships. The Tigers enter the meet as the No. 2 seed, beginning on bars. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be shown on ACC Network.

No. 20 Clemson drops a close one to NC State in front of sold-out crowd

Clemson gymnastics dropped a close one to NC State.

CLEMSON, S.C. – In front of its second-consecutive sold out home crowd, the No. 20 Clemson Tigers fell to the No. 32 NC State Wolfpack, 196.300-195.600, on Friday evening inside Littlejohn Coliseum. In only its third home meet, the gymnastics program welcomed back 8,631 fans to help celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day in collaboration with 10 other Clemson Athletic women’s programs.

The highlight of Friday’s meet consisted of the Tigers posting a program-best 49.525 on the floor, which is the 15th-highest score on the event by any program in the NCAA this season. The high score was spurred by both Molly Arnold and Lauren Rutherford scoring back-to-back 9.950s, the first 9.950s on any event by a Tiger.

Vault

With the Tigers back at home, they followed the Olympic style rotation to kickoff the meet on vault, while the Wolfpack opened the meet on bars. Both Arnold and Maggie Holman led Clemson with 9.850s Arnold’s 9.850 tied a career high on the event, while Holman appeared on the apparatus for the first time this season to anchor the event. Further helping Clemson finish with its second-highest score on vault this season, Rutherford followed closely behind Arnold and Holman with a 9.825. Trinity Brown and Madison Minner rounded out the scores for the Tigers with a 9.775 and 9.750, respectively. Through the first rotation, both teams stood at a stalemate with a team score of 49.050.

Bars

Continuing to the second rotation, the Tigers had Eve Jackson and Kaitlin DeGuzman score 9.850s to lead Clemson on bars after both athletes stuck their dismounts. Competing in her first rotation of the season, Trinity Webb opened her season with a 9.825, and Lilly Lippeatt joined her with a 9.825 of her own after she stuck her dismount. Rutherford rounded out Clemson with a 9.800 to help the team post a 49.150 to tie the second-highest score on the apparatus this season.

With every Tiger posting a 9.800 or higher, Clemson finished the second rotation slightly ahead of NC State with a score of 98.200-98.100.

Beam

Lippeatt led off the third rotation with a 9.775, while Jackson put up a 9.700. Redshirt senior Rebecca Wells stayed composed on the event to post a team-high 9.850 to boost the Tigers. Making her Clemson debut was freshman Sierra Church, who scored a 9.650. Kielyn McCright had to catch her balance on two of her passes to finish with a 8.900.

Clemson finished with a 47.875 and moved to the last rotation trailing NC State, 147.450-146.075.

Floor

Clemson rebounded in the final rotation by posting the team’s highest score on the event this season with a 49.525 that was spurred by three Tigers finishing with 9.900 or higher to anchor the meet. Arnold powered the way by scoring the first-ever 9.950 for a Clemson gymnast this season. The momentum didn’t end there as Rutherford followed with a 9.950 of her own in the fifth spot. Holman notched a career-high of her own with a 9.900 to open the rotation, while Minner (9.875) and Jackson (9.850) rounded out the Tigers with season-highs of their own.

Despite battling back in the final rotation, Clemson dropped its first meet of the season with a final score of 196.300-195.600.

The Tigers return to action on Feb. 9 with their second road meet of their inaugural season. Clemson will travel to Pittsburgh to face Pitt at 7 p.m. on ACCNX.

Clemson remains undefeated, taking down UNC on the road

Clemson Gymnastics is off to a red-hot start.

Chapel Hill, N.C. – The No. 24 Clemson Gymnastics program continued its inaugural season with its third-consecutive win during the 2024 season. The Tigers topped the North Carolina Tar Heels, 196.550-194.250, to move to 3-0 (2-0 ACC) on the season and put up its first road score towards the National Qualifying Score (NQS).

Bars

Opening the meet on bars, the Tigers posted a 49.150 on the first apparatus. Bars-specialist Kaitlin DeGuzman led the Tigers with a season-high-tying 9.875, while Rebecca Wells opened the meet with a season-high 9.850. Lauren Rutherford and Lilly Lippeatt each posted a 9.825 and Eve Jackson recorded a 9.775. Clemson led North Carolina, 49.150-48.750 after the first rotation.

Vault

Rotating to vault, the Tigers saw Rutherford stick her blind landing and tie a career-high with a 9.925 to win the event for the second-consecutive week. Molly Arnold and Madison Minner each recorded a 9.775, while Trinity Brown scored a 9.750 in the anchor spot. Wells and Jackson each turned in a 9.725 to round out the Tigers’ second rotation.

The Tigers closed the event with a 48.950, their second-highest vault score of the season, and led North Carolina, 98.100-96.425, at the halfway point.

Floor

Clark wowed the judges again, scoring her second-consecutive 9.925 to tie a season high. On the season, Clark hasn’t scored below a 9.900 to lead the Tigers on the event and has now captured three-straight floor titles. Arnold tied her season-high with a 9.875, followed closely by Rutherford with a 9.850. Freshman Maggie Holman competed in the leadoff spot for the Tigers and tied a season-high with a 9.825, while Wells recorded a 9.775 to bring Clemson’s event score to 49.250.

Heading into the final rotation of the night, the Tigers held a 147.350-145.025 lead over the Tar Heels.

Beam

Kielyn McCright and Clark shared the event title by scoring a 9.900 each on the event. This was McCright’s second-straight 9.900 and tied a career-high on the apparatus for Clark. Wells also stuck her dismount in the leadoff spot in the Tigers’ final rotation, tying a season-high with a 9.875 to bring her all-around total to 39.225, a season-high. Quinn Kuhl finished her routine with a stick and a season-high 9.800. Jackson finished the evening with a 37.725 after tallying a 9.725 on the beam.

The Tigers earned a 49.200 on beam, their highest beam score of the season, to defeat North Carolina, 196.550-194.250, for Clemson’s first road win in program history.

The Tigers return to Littlejohn Coliseum on Friday, February 2, hosting NC State for a 7:00 p.m. meet to be shown on ACC Network. Prior to Friday’s meet, fans can celebrate National Girls and Women in Sport Day with a pre-meet event with other women’s teams from Clemson.

Clemson gymnastics defeats Pittsburgh in their ACC home opener in front of a packed LittleJohn Coliseum

Clemson gymnastics is here and making a statement early.

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 19 Clemson Gymnastics team continued its impressive inaugural season in front of 8,631 fans after scoring season highs on both vault and floor to defeat Pitt in its first ACC meet.

The Tigers posted a 196.200 over the Panthers’ 194.775 to move to 2-0 on the season. Rebecca Wells claimed the title for the second-consecutive meet in the all-around with a score of 39.125, while Trinity Brown (vault – 9.900), Eve Jackson (tie on bars – 9.825), Kielyn McCright (beam – 9.900) and Brie Clark (floor – 9.925) each won their respective events.

Vault

Starting the meet on vault, the Tigers posted a season-high 49.150 on the first apparatus. Jackson, Molly Arnold and Madison Minner scored 9.800, while junior Lauren Rutherford finished with a 9.850. Brown anchored with a career-high 9.900 to take the title and claim Clemson’s first-ever 9.900 on the event. Clemson led Pitt after the first rotation, 49.150 to 48.625.

Bars

Rotating to bars, the Tigers found their best performance came from Jackson. The redshirt junior tied her season best with a score of 9.825 to tie for the event win. Redshirt freshman Lilly Lippeatt and graduate Kaitlin DeGuzman added 9.800s on their first apparatus of the day. Wells and Rutherford rounded out the bars scores with 9.750 each.

The Tigers closed the second rotation with a 48.825 on bars and had the lead over the Panthers at the halfway point, 97.975-97.375

Beam

Redshirt sophomore, McCright, narrowly missed setting a new career-high after anchoring Clemson on the beam with a 9.900 after she stuck her dismount. Wells continued to shine on the event with a 9.850 that was matched by a 9.850 from Lippeatt. Jackson and Quinn Kuhl added 9.675 and 9.475, respectively, to bring the team total on the event to 48.750.

Heading into the final rotation, Clemson maintained a 146.825-146.475 advantage over Pitt.

Floor

Clemson came back strong to conclude the meet with a season-high 49.375 performance on floor. The rotation was highlighted by Clark’s 9.925, the first on any event for the Tigers. Every individual in the lineup tied a season-high, including Rutherford who joined Clark with a 9.900. Both Lippeatt and Arnold followed with a 9.875. Brown and Wells rounded out Clemson’s lineup with 9.800s.

The Tigers captured their second-consecutive win, first in the ACC, with a final score of 196.200-194.775 against the Pitt Panthers.

Clemson hits the road for its first away meet as a program traveling to Chapel Hill for another ACC meet. The Tigers take on the Tar Heels on Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. on ACCNX.

Clemson Gymnastics is prepared for their first ACC meet.

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson gymnastics returns to action on Sunday afternoon, welcoming Pitt to Littlejohn Coliseum for the first ACC meet of the season. The teams are set to begin competition at 4 p.m. and the meet will be shown on the ACC Network, with Alex Perlman and Olympian Samantha Peszek on the call.

The Tigers defeated William & Mary in their inaugural meet last Friday, 196.325-190,050, giving Clemson the distinction of holding the highest-ever inaugural meet score by any team. Rebecca Wells was Clemson’s first-ever all-around winner, while redshirt freshman Lilly Lippeatt earned ACC Newcomer of the Week honors after recorded the program’s first 9.900 in history (bars).

Sunday’s meet has been designated as “Youth Day”. There will be photo ops with the Tiger and Cub, face-painting, sign making stations and more. Tickets for Sunday’s meet can be purchased here.

Clemson Gymnastics Wins Inaugural Meet

Clemson Gymnastics won their first meet in the program’s history.

CLEMSON, S.C. – Friday night marked a historic evening inside Littlejohn Coliseum as the Clemson Gymnastics program began its inaugural season in front of 8,018 fans. The Tigers defeated William & Mary, 196.325-190.050, to vault the program into competitive existence. Following the first meet, Clemson’s 196.325 sits 14th in the nation through meets on January 11.

Vault

Redshirt senior Rebecca Wells was the first Clemson gymnast to compete in the Orange and Regalia by leading things off on the vault with a 9.725. Eve Jackson and Molly Arnold continued to raise the bar for the Tigers with a 9.75 and 9.775, respectively. Lauren Rutherford won the event by scoring the first 9.825. Madison Minner added a 9.60, and Trinity Brown rounded out the event with a 9.80 to bring the team score to 48.875 through the opening rotation.

Bars

The Tigers thrived on the bars clocking a 49.225, as each gymnast scored a minimum of 9.800 on the event. In her first collegiate routine, redshirt freshman Lilly Lippeatt scored a 9.900 to win the event. Kaitlin DeGuzman followed with an impressive 9.875 after sticking her landing. Both Eve Jackson and Lauren Rutherford posted strong routines with 9.825 scores in the second and fifth spots. Wells and Brown rounded out the Tigers with a 9.800 each.

Following the second rotation, Clemson led William & Mary, 98.100-95.500.

Beam

Entering the third rotation, Lippeatt started things off with a 9.750. Jackson followed with a 9.775. Both Quinn Kuhl and Kielyn McCright added routines in the third and fifth spots. Wells highlighted the apparatus with a 9.875 to win the event, followed by Brie Clark notching a 9.850 to conclude the event.

Clemson maintained a 147.050-141.925 advantage over William & Mary after the third rotation.

Floor

Clark had all of Littlejohn on their feet when she took to the floor in the fifth spot of the event. With Littlejohn rocking, the Daphne, Ala. native, clocked a 9.900 to win the event. Maggie Holman and Lilly Lippeatt started Clemson off strong in the final rotation posting back-to-back scores of 9.825. Molly Arnold and Lauren Rutherford continued their impressive Tiger floor debuts with 9.875 and 9.850, respectively. Wells concluded the event for the Tigers.

Posting a 49.275 on floor, the Clemson Tigers defeated Williams & Mary to secure not only the first victory of 2024, but the first victory for the program’s history.
