Notre Dame All-Time Bowl History

What is your favorite Notre Dame bowl memory?

Notre Dame has played in 41 bowl games all-time, a number that might seem low considering they’ve been playing football for over 130 years.  However, Notre Dame didn’t play in bowl games out of their belief in amateurism for over 40 years which means for a lot fewer bowl appearances than several other blue-blood programs.

There have been great triumphs and incredible heartbreakers both over those 41 games.

Legends were made, thrilling wins were had, and heartbreaking losses also occurred.

Check out the game-by-game history of Notre Dame in postseason bowl games below.

Gator Bowl most-watched non-New Year’s Six bowl

People love to watch the Irish in big games.

Having Notre Dame in any bowl is bound to draw a lot of interest for that bowl. This year, the lucky recipient was the Gator Bowl. The Irish didn’t need to win to affect the interest in the game, but they beat South Carolina anyway. Call it a bonus for anyone who had anything significant invested in the game.

We now know how big the Gator Bowl viewership on ESPN was: 5.766 million. That makes it the most-watched bowl this year outside of any New Year’s Six bowl. Making it more impressive is that it beat out bowls that could have drawn more interest like Florida State and Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl and Washington and Texas in the Alamo Bowl. Instead, the Irish and Gamecocks have enough interest that they won the race for viewers.

Maybe Notre Dame and South Carolina will meet in a New Year’s Six bowl in the future. Until then, we have an idea of what the ratings would be.

See inside the Cheez-It-themed hotel rooms where football players with NIL deals are staying

There is so much happening in these Cheez-It hotel rooms.

Name, image and likeness deals have altered the college football landscape and how the sport functions while providing some awesome opportunities for players, like Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker signing with French’s mustard and Colorado offensive lineman Tommy Brown becoming an instant icon as an underwear model.

And now with Cheez-It sponsoring two bowl games this season, the cracker company went all out with its NIL offerings.

The company signed NIL deals with Florida State wide receiver Mycah Pittman and Oklahoma punter Michael Turk before they play in the Cheez-It Bowl, along with LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and Purdue wide receiver Tyrone Tracy Jr. ahead of the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.

Included in the perks of their deals is a stay in one of Cheez-It’s “Feelin’ the Cheeziest” Hotel Rooms, which are so hilariously and ridiculously over the top.

Here’s Turk’s TikTok tour of one of the rooms, complete with Cheez-It… everything.

@hangtimeyt

If you thought playing got me feelin’ the cheeziest, wait ‘til you see the @Cheez-It #feelinthecheeziest hotel room!

♬ original sound – Michael Turk

In a release about the company’s first NIL deals, Cheez-It described the novelty rooms as:

Hotel rooms decked out in floor-to-ceiling Cheez-It-inspired items, like an “I woke up ‘Feelin’ the Cheeziest, Coach!” alarm clock, inspirational Cheez-It-inspired artwork, absurdly plush Cheez-It rugs and luxurious red and yellow bedding. It’s like waking up inside of a Cheez-It box, but better.

Not sure if anyone really wants to wake up inside a Cheez-It box, but these rooms are really something special — even if they’re a bit too much.

Best bets for every bowl game, Pt. 2 (pre-New Year’s Six bowls)

Part 2 of our best bets for bowl season.

After a day off, bowl season picks right back up on Monday with the Quick Lane Bowl between New Mexico State and Bowling Green. That means its time for me to pick things up where I left off in Pt. 1 of my best bets for bowl season.

For those who tailed my previous picks, it’s been a good time. I’ve been picking a lot more winners than losers, and I hope to keep the good fortune on my side for 16 more bowl-game picks all the way up until the first NY6 bowl on Friday night.

Before we get into the picks, here’s a look at where things stand:

Ranking the 9 best (edible) things college football players could dump on bowl-winning coaches (2022)

It’s mayo bath season!

It’s officially college football bowl season! It not only means more awesome (and sometimes really bad but also still great) football before a new national champion is crowned, but it also means it’s time for winning coaches to get some ridiculous celebratory baths.

What once started as a victorious Gatorade bath for the winning team’s coach has evolved into something so much more during bowl season. And sometimes, the contents of those giant jugs don’t even remotely resemble Gatorade. Or water.

The coaches’ celebratory baths have evolved lately with them sometimes being related to the bowl games’ sponsors. And that’s made the jubilant post-game scenes even better, as coaches now give on-field interviews covered in snacks or beverages — and, eventually, a major condiment.

So as the 2022 college football bowl season kicks off, we’ve ranked the nine best things that should go in the coolers for players to dump on their coaches. These are purely edible suggestions, as fun as it would be to see the winning coach from the Myrtle Beach Bowl get a cooler full of sand dumped on him. And the ranking and items suggested are based on the bowl’s sponsors, the bowl name itself and other random things.

Bowl organizers: Please feel free to take every single one of these proposals.

A couple final Notre Dame bowl projections ahead of announcement

Where do you want Notre Dame to go?

Notre Dame was off on Saturday as they’re at home with their 8-4 regular season record.  It was a slightly crazy week for the Irish that saw them gain a commitment from [autotag]Kaleb Smith[/autotag], who chose the Irish after being a one-time commitment to Texas Tech.  The week also featured quarterback Drew Pyne announcing he’s enterting the transfer portal right away, leaving Notre Dame to likely use Tyler Buchner in the bowl game.

About that bowl game – where will the Irish be headed?  Our look around the national projections last week had nearly everyone saying it’d be the Gator Bowl against an SEC opponent.  With conference championships now wrapped up we took a look at a couple of updated projections Sunday morning and here is where they’re seeing the Irish going.

11 hilarious photos of Clemson Football celebrating Cheez-It Bowl win

Prince Cheddward is the mascot we all need.

The Clemson Tigers picked up their 10th win of the season on Wednesday evening with a 20-13 victory over Iowa State in the Cheez-It Bowl. Even in a down year by Clemson’s standard, the Tigers were able to use a 14-point third quarter and a fourth quarter defensive stand to hit double-digit wins for the eighth-straight season.

Post-game celebrations, of course, heavily featured the square, toasty, cheesy snack, and I’m not sure anyone can have more fun with a cracker. There was a Cheez-It bath, a trophy filled with Cheez-Its, an MVP belt for Clemson defensive back Mario Goodrich, some huge container with boxes of Cheez-Its, and a terribly haunting-yet-endearing mascot named Prince Cheddward.
