What the composite top 25 would look like after Week 11

What would a composite top 25 look like after Week 11?

On Tuesday evening the committee released the latest edition of the College Football Playoff rankings. The LSU Tigers moved up to No. 6 after their win over Arkansas. The loss by Oregon to Washington paved the way for the Bayou Bengals.

As it has been the case for several weeks now, Brian Kelly and the Tigers control their own destiny. Wins over UAB, Texas A&M, and Georgia in the SEC title game would likely get them into the playoffs. It would be difficult to keep the SEC champions out of the tournament despite having two losses.

There is still plenty of football left as Selection Sunday is three weeks away. After the polls were released, I put together the composite top 25 poll which factors in each of the three major polls. Each team would receive points from each poll (AP, Coaches, CFP) based on their placement. The No. 1 team received 25 points. The number drops all the way to one point for the No. 25 spot.

This is what the combined polls would look like as we head into Week 12 of the 2022 college football season.

Rank Team Record Points
1 Georgia 10-0 75
2 Ohio State 10-0 72
3 Michigan 10-0 69
4 TCU 10-0 66
5 Tennessee 9-1 63
6 LSU 8-2 59
7 USC 9-1 58
8 Alabama 8-2 54
9 Clemson 9-1 51
10 Utah 8-2 48
11 Penn State 8-2 44
12 North Carolina 9-1 41
12 Oregon 8-2 41
14 Ole Miss 8-2 36
15 Washington 8-2 31
16 UCLA 8-2 30
17 Kansas State 7-3 27
18 Central Florida 8-2 23
18 Notre Dame 7-3 23
20 Florida State 7-3 19
21 Tulane 8-2 14
22 Cincinnati 8-2 10
23 Oklahoma State 7-3 8
24 Coastal Carolina 9-1 6
25 Oregon State 7-3 4

Just missing out on the top 25 is North Carolina State, who ends up with just three points.

Twitter reacts to the latest College Football Playoff rankings

Here is a look at how Twitter reacted to the latest CFP and where Clemson stands in the rankings.

The latest College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday night, with Dabo Swinney and the Tigers remaining in the top 10.

Clemson 9-1 (7-0 ACC) moved up a single spot in the rankings, moving from No.10 to No.9, matching where they rank in both the AP Poll and Coaches Poll. The College Football Playoff Selection Committee still sees a path for the Tigers to make the Playoff, but having a two-loss team such as Alabama who won’t be making a trip to the SEC Championship game ahead of them does make a person wonder how good Clemson’s chances actually are.

One thing I do know is that anything can happen in college football. The next couple of weeks leading up to conference championships will be make or break for many teams around the country, with Clemson being one of those teams.

Here is a look at how Twitter reacted to Clemson’s position in the latest CFP rankings.

SEC West Champion Tigers move up in latest CFP Rankings

The Tigers jumped Oregon after the Ducks’ loss to Washington.

The Tigers certainly didn’t have their best game in a 13-10 victory at Arkansas, but in November, a win is a win. And with No. 6 Oregon’s loss to Washington in Week 11, someone was going to be moving up in the College Football Playoff Rankings this week.

The biggest question entering Tuesday night’s reveal was whether that team would be LSU or 9-1 USC. The Tigers ultimately got the edge, moving up one spot to No. 6 in this week’s rankings, just one spot behind Tennessee.

The top five remained unchanged this week, and LSU’s SEC Championship opponent Georgia held on to the No. 1 spot. Here’s how the top 10 looks heading into Week 12.

ESPN analysts react to Clemson’s latest College Football Playoff ranking

A few ESPN analysts reacted to Clemson’s latest College Football Playoff ranking when it was revealed Tuesday night on the network’s College Football Playoff: Top 25 show. The Tigers (9-1, 7-0 ACC) moved up one spot from No. 10 to No. 9 in the third …

A few ESPN analysts reacted to Clemson’s latest College Football Playoff ranking when it was revealed Tuesday night on the network’s College Football Playoff: Top 25 show.

The Tigers (9-1, 7-0 ACC) moved up one spot from No. 10 to No. 9 in the third set of CFP rankings coming off its 31-16 win over Louisville last Saturday at Death Valley.

Oregon (8-2, 6-1 Pac-12), previously ranked No. 6, is the only team that dropped out of the top 10 (to No. 12) after losing at home to Washington by a score of 37-34 on Saturday night.

“Clemson moves up a spot. Still a little bit back,” ESPN host Rece Davis said. “We’ve had teams fall behind, so it wasn’t necessarily… I mean Clemson, that was a good win against a hot Louisville team on Saturday.”

The top five of the newest CFP rankings stayed the same with Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, TCU and Tennessee, in that order. LSU, Southern Cal, Alabama and Clemson each slid up one spot to No. 6, No. 7, No. 8 and No. 9, respectively, with Utah moving up three spots to round out the top 10.

ESPN analyst David Pollack believes Clemson is the cutoff point as far as teams that have a shot (to some degree) to make the playoff.

“I think that’s where you can draw the line and start staying now everybody’s got a chance to be in the College Football Playoff. I think nine is the spot right there,” he said. “The line below Clemson, I think you’re pretty much out of the playoffs. But now I think all these teams — I’m not saying they’re like having a high percentage, but they’re all still alive.”

Clemson has wins over two of the three ACC teams that are ranked in the latest CFP rankings — Florida State and NC State.

The Seminoles moved up four spots from No. 23 to No. 19, while the Wolfpack tumbled down eight spots in the rankings after losing to Boston College 21-20 but still stayed in at No. 24.

“Important for Clemson,” Pollack said when NC State’s ranking was unveiled. “I know we’ve written them off a little bit, but they’re still a one-loss team that’s going to be in the rankings. So, that’s a big deal for Clemson.”

Clemson’s opponent in the ACC Championship Game (Dec. 3, 8 p.m., ABC), North Carolina, moved up from No. 15 to No. 13 in the rankings.

“How ’bout ole (UNC head coach) Mack Brown, boys, (UNC quarterback) Drake Maye, up there in the top 13,” ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit said. “Daring to dream, boys, they’re daring to dream. Potentially a heck of a showdown in Charlotte if they keep going with North Carolina and Clemson for the ACC Championship.”

As for Clemson being ranked one spot behind Alabama, Davis added, “I do think it might say something about where Clemson will be if they are in the mix at the end as the ACC Champion with only one loss, how they might be regarded.”

“Maybe they move ahead of Alabama,” he said, “but there’s a lot of teams for them to hop over if that were to be the case.”

Clemson moves up a spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings

Swinney and the Tigers remain in the top 10 in the latest CFP rankings.

The third installment of the College Football Playoff rankings was released Tuesday night, with Clemson moving up after their 31-16 win over Louisville.

The Tigers 9-1 (7-0 ACC) moved up a single spot from to No.9 as a couple of two-loss teams remain above them. Even though they have two losses and will not appear in the SEC Championship game, the Alabama Crimson Tide ranks No.8 ahead of Clemson. The other two-loss team ahead of Clemson is No.6 LSU, who will face Georgia in the SEC Championship game.

Swinney and the Tigers have two more home games left to play in the regular season before heading to Charlotte for the ACC Championship. Their opponent in that game, North Carolina, ranked No.13 in the latest CFP rankings.

Here are the College Football Playoff Selection Committee’s choices for the CFP top 25:

Predicting College Football Playoff rankings after Week 11: A lot of Big Ten and SEC

What do you see the rankings looking like?

Week 11 is in the books and there was plenty of action on Saturday.

Illinois lost a stunner to Purdue in the early games. The Illini went form having a lead in the West to now being in a dogfight. The Big Ten East remains a two-team race: Ohio State and Michigan. Both won big on Saturday.

In the SEC, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee took care of business to stay at the top. Alabama beat Ole Miss on Saturday in a thrilling game. The Tide, while not likely, are hoping to stay in the CFP race.

The Pac-12’s playoff hopes took a serious hit Saturday night. Oregon lost at home against Washington, and UCLA lost in stunning fashion to Arizona.

After the conclusion of Week 11, here is what we think the CFP rankings will look like on Tuesday.

ESPN analyst wonders if there’s ‘enough meat on the bone’ for Clemson

ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy chimed in on Clemson’s College Football Playoff chances after the Tigers’ latest CFP ranking was unveiled during ESPN’s College Football Playoff: Top 25 show.

Clemson (8-1, 6-0 ACC), which checked in at No. 4 in the initial CFP rankings last week, tumbled to No. 10 in the second rankings after its 35-14 loss at Notre Dame last Saturday night.

The Tigers will conclude the regular season with a three-game homestand against Louisville, Miami and South Carolina, none of which are currently ranked by the CFP committee. After those three games at Death Valley, Dabo Swinney’s team will play in the ACC Championship Game, presumably against North Carolina (No. 15 in the latest CFP rankings).

“I just wonder if there’s enough meat on the bone on Clemson’s remaining schedule to get back into the mix,” McElroy said. “Because even in a loss with Michigan to Ohio State, Michigan likely would still be ahead of Clemson. Where does LSU fall in the mix, where does Alabama fall in the mix? There’s still so many teams that we’ve yet to rank, that even if they were to lose, they’d still probably still be in front of the Tigers knowing the strength of schedule that remains in other places.

“So the ACC right now, this is a reflection on just the quality at the top. It’s a little bit more bunched up than we’re accustomed to.”

After McElroy made his comments, the SEC teams he mentioned — LSU and Alabama — came in at No. 7 and No. 9 in the rankings, respectively.

The new top four features Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and TCU, in that order.

Besides Clemson and North Carolina, the other two ACC teams that are ranked in the new CFP rankings are NC State (No. 16) and Florida State (No. 23), both of which the Tigers own wins over this season.
