Alabama holds steady in CFP rankings

Just need to take care of business one more time!

The final College Football Playoff rankings of the regular season have arrived, and the Crimson Tide maintains its current posture and remains at No. 3 after its close overtime win over the Auburn Tigers.

Michigan jumped in front of Alabama to No. 2 after beating Ohio State 42-27. They will take on No. 15 Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game on Saturday.

The Buckeyes dropped to No. 7 following the loss. Cincinnati stays put at No. 4 and will take on Houston in the AAC Championship.

Nick Saban and his Alabama squad understand what it needs to do to stay in the hunt. The objective is winning, and nobody in the country is better than doing that as Saban.

The Tide faced three opponents on the season that ended the regular season in the top 25: Ole Miss at No. 8, Arkansas at No. 22 and Texas A&M at No. 25.

All they need is one more, as Alabama will face No. 1 Georgia in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday in Atlanta.

It’s a must-win situation for the Crimson Tide.

Welcome Ohio State to the outside looking in — the Buckeyes did not think they would be here. Meanwhile: hello, Michigan! And Oklahoma State: welcome to the doorstep!

Rivalry week was a wild week, with Michigan taking down rival Ohio State in punishing fashion, while Bedlam saw the Cowboys outlast the hated Oklahoma Sooners. Alabama won in come-from-behind, overtime fashion, while Cincinnati and Notre Dame took care of business.

Now, the bulk of the teams in the top 25 will be sitting at home while most of the top teams battle it out for their conference championships. As far as the games that matter, Georgia will face Alabama, Michigan takes on Iowa, Oklahoma State faces Baylor, and Cincinnati takes on Houston.

With that in mind, the College Football Playoff committee set the stage for its final rankings, which will come out on Sunday, as it released its final regular season rankings on Tuesday night. Here’s the new top 25.

What Alabama’s path to the CFP looks like with one week left

Crazy things happening around the top four!

Alabama escaped chaos on Saturday after fending off a surging Arkansas Razorbacks football team and winning 42-35.

Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young set an Alabama program record in single-game passing yards with 559. He also threw five touchdown passes on the day.

The Alabama offense as a collective unit dominated the Hogs defense. They put up 671 yards of total offense.

The defense, on the other hand, broke down and allowed 468 yards of total offense. Razorbacks QB KJ Jefferson threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns.

At this point in the season, Alabama’s defense remains its primary weakness. While improving, they still show signs of confusion at times.

Heading into Week 13 the Crimson Tide sits at 10-1. Only Auburn remains on the regular-season slate before the SEC Championship Game is played on Dec. 4 against the Georgia Bulldogs.

As long as Alabama takes care of business against Auburn and takes down UGA, the Crimson Tide should easily find their way into the CFP.

Elsewhere around the top four, No. 3 Oregon was beatdown by Utah 38-7.

Alabama could potentially see themselves lose a spot in the CFP rankings to No. 4 Ohio State after the Buckeyes absolutely demolished No. 7 Michigan State by a score of 56-7.

Cincinnati has a chance to squeeze into the No. 4 spot of the CFP poll after Oregon’s tumble. However, the Michigan Wolverines might end up seizing the position after a 59-18 win over Maryland.

All told, the Crimson Tide remains in a prime position to get a spot in the CFP. Simply win from this point forward and you’re in.

Predicting next round of College Football Playoff rankings

Predicting this week’s College Football Playoff rankings

Week 12 saw three top-ten teams in the College Football Playoff rankings lose: Oregon, Michigan State and Wake Forest.

All three were blown out. Oregon to Utah, Michigan State to Ohio State and Wake Forest was blown out by Clemson.

In Tuscaloosa, No. 2 Alabama survived a scare in a 42-35 win over Arkansas. Georgia took care of business against Charleston Southern of the FCS. And it looks like Cincinnati should find itself in the top-four now thanks to Oregon’s loss.

The big question this week is whether or not Ohio State will jump Alabama and overtake that No. 2 spot? The Buckeyes dominated the #7 team in the nation while Bama struggled against #21. If it were me, I’d have the Buckeyes at No. 2 (I would have had them at No. 2 the whole time), but I’m not so sure the committee will move Alabama down. Here’s how we project this week’s College Football Playoff rankings to look after Week 12.

What are the statistical chances Alabama is upset by Arkansas?

Numbers have been crunched, what are the chances the Razorbacks can upset the Crimson Tide?

In the latest College Football Playoff rankings, Alabama was listed as the nation’s second-best team, falling just behind fellow SEC member, Georgia. With two weeks left in the regular season, the Crimson Tide still need to lock up a spot in the SEC Championship to face the Bulldogs, a game that will likely decide whether Saban and the program will have the opportunity to play for national championship No. 19.

This week, Alabama takes on the Arkansas Razorbacks.

ESPN’s FPI (Football Power Index), which ranks teams based on mathematical strength, puts a statistical chance for each team to win the game.

Arkansas, ranked No. 21, is barely given a chance, according to the numbers.

Alabama has a 92.6% chance to win the game, leaving the Razorbacks with a measly 7.4% chance to upset the Crimson Tide.

One week following this game will be the Iron Bowl, which should make for an interesting matchup, as Auburn quarterback Bo Nix is out with injury and first-year head coach Bryan Harsin will look to prove he is capable of putting up a four-quarter fight against Nick Saban.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover the Crimson Tide as the team prepares to take on Arkansas this Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
