Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennadiy Golovkin odds, picks and predictions

Breaking down Saturday’s Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennadiy Golovkin super middleweight fight, with boxing odds, picks and predictions.

In a 12-round championship bout for the IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO World Super Middleweight belts, Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin meet Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Alvarez vs. Golovkin odds, with expert boxing picks and predictions.

The Pay-Per-View broadcast can be viewed on HBO Boxing, with the broadcast starting at 8 p.m. ET. The championship bout is expected to begin approximately at 10:30 p.m.

Canelo is looking to rebound and get his swagger back, after he was defeated by unanimous decision against Dmitrii Bivol at this very same venue in early May. In that bout, he lost the WBA Super World Light Heavyweight bout, so he returns to the middleweight division.

This will be the 3rd fight of the trilogy. These fighters met at T-Mobile Arena in mid-September 2017, and fought to a split-decision draw. That set up a 2nd fight at the same venue, and Canelo scratched out a majority decision win, with 2 judges scoring the fight 115-113, and one calling it 114-114.

Golovkin, a.k.a. Triple G, dropped Ryota Murata at Super Arena Saitama last time out in early April, winning in the ninth round via KO/TKO. He also has a KO win over Steve Rolls, and a pair of decision victories over Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Kamil Szeremeta in his 4 fights since losing to Canelo in Vegas in Sept. 2018.

Canelo vs. Golovkin picks and predictions

Records: Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) | Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

The difference here is likely to be age. Canelo (-550) is still a rather spry 32, although he has a lot of mileage on his tires with 61 professional bouts.

Golovkin (+330) is now 40 years old for this trilogy fight, and while he still has been performing at a rather high level, for whatever reason, when it comes to fights against Canelo, either the general public, or boxing world seem to not be in Triple G’s corner.

You can’t take Canelo laying 5 1/2 times your potential return, as there is just no money there. Taking a flyer on Golovkin to spring the upset is super tempting, but this isn’t 2017 or 2018. I think the window for Triple G surprises has been slammed shut by Father Time.

The safe play is CANELO TO WIN BY DECISION (-111) with a minimal slap on the wrist in terms of juice.

Over/Under (O/U)

The books are fully expecting this baby to go the distance, and for PPV buyers to at least get their money’s worth. Over 10.5 Rounds (-200) is a little too pricey for my liking, but not declaring a winner, and simply playing YES (-175): FIGHT TO GO THE DISTANCE is a very strong play.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Caleb Plant odds, picks and prediction: super-middleweight championship

Breaking down Saturday’s Canelo Alvarez vs. Caleb Plant super-middleweight championship fight, with boxing odds, picks and predictions.

In a 12-round super-middleweight undisputed title bout, Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant meet Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card begins at 9 p.m. ET, with the main event expected to take place at approximately 11 p.m. ET. The card is televised on Showtime Pay-Per-View. Below, we break down the Canelo vs. Plant odds and lines, with boxing picks and predictions.

Canelo posted a victory over Billy Joe Saunders May 8 last time out. Before that, he posted a win, Feb. 27, against Avni Yildirim in Miami Gardens, Fla, retaining the WBO belt he won from Callum Smith prior to that.

Before that, Canelo earned the WBO World Light Heavyweight title with a win over Sergey Kovalev Nov. 2, 2019, in Las Vegas at this very same venue. That was also the date of his most recent knockout and the 38th of his career.

Plant pushed past Caleb Truax in Los Angeles last time out Jan. 30, winning by unanimous decision. Before that was a TKO victory over Vincent Feigenbutz Feb. 15, 2020 in Nashville. He also dropped Mike Lee via TKO in this very same venue back July 20, 2019. You might notice Plant’s recent opponents are nowhere near the quality level of Canelo.

Canelo vs. Plant odds and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:05 a.m. ET.

  • Canelo Alvarez: -1200 (bet $1,200 to win $100) | Caleb Plant: +550 (bet $100 to win $550)

New to sports betting?

Canelo (-1200) is a heavy favorite with an implied win probability of 92.31%. A $100 bet on the favorite would return a profit of just $8.33 with a victory as a chalky wager.

Canelo vs. Plant predictions and picks

Canelo (-1200) will cost you 12 times your potential return, and there is just no value betting the huge favorite and future Hall of Famer. Instead, let’s get creative instead.

I like Canelo to win this fight on points instead. I don’t think Plant is going to get knocked out here, and Alvarez hasn’t recorded a knockout in his past three bouts dating back to Nov. 2, 2019, over two calendar years.

If you are just hellbent on playing Canelo to win outright, playing -1100 on the 3-way line is slightly cheaper. Tie him in with several other options in a parlay to reduce the risk.

The best bet on the board is OVER 9.5 ROUNDS (-120), with even more value playing YES (+165): FIGHT TO GO THE DISTANCE.

The card can be viewed on Showtime PPV with the event beginning at 9 p.m. ET and the main event at approximately 11 p.m. ET.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders fight odds, picks and prediction

Breaking down Saturday’s fight between Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders with boxing odds, picks and predictions.

We get a 12-round WBC/WBA/WBO super middleweight title bout Saturday when Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders meet at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The undercard is set to begin at 8 p.m. ET, with the Canelo-Saunders fight set for approximately 11 p.m. ET. Below, we break down the Canelo vs. Saunders odds, with boxing picks and predictions. The fight card is televised on DAZN.

Canelo vs. Saunders: Fight odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:15 a.m. ET.

Canelo Alvarez -500 (bet $500 to win $100) | Billy Joe Saunders +400 (bet $100 to win $400) | Draw +2000

Canelo has an implied win probability of 83.33% with the -500 money line odds. Those odds can be expressed as a fraction of 1/5 or a decimal of 1.20.

Canelo vs. Saunders: Tale of the tape

Canelo Alvarez (-500)

Canelo (55-1-2, 37 KOs) enters with six consecutive victories since his Sept. 16, 2017 draw against Gennadiy Golovkin. He picked up a majority decision win over GGG in the rematch, and he also has impressive wins over Sergey Kovalev and Callum Smith during the span.

He stopped Avni Yildirim in Miami Gardens, Fla., in February, winning by three rounds. He will be looking to use his left hook to floor Saunders.

Billy Joe Saunders (+400)

Saunders (30-0, 14 KOs) is a moderate underdog despite the fact he doesn’t have a blemish on his professional boxing record. He will be looking to use his tremendous jab and head movement to confuse Canelo. That combination is something that gave the champ fits against Erislandy Lara and Austin Trout in fights a few years ago.

Saunders is coming off a unanimous-decision victory over Martin Murray Dec. 4, 2020 in London. Two of his past three wins went the distance.

Canelo vs. Saunders: Odds, predictions and picks

Canelo (-500) will cost you five times your potential return, and while he is the moderate favorite, there is risk here since Saunders (+400) has never experienced a loss in his career. The Brit has an open stance and solid jab which could give Canelo some issues as he tries to get in close to use his devastating left hook.

I like CANELO ON POINTS (+160), as I think Saunders is going to take him the distance in this one. In fact, it could be quite a narrow margin of victory, perhaps even a majority decision with one judge leaning in favor of Saunders.

I can’t take the big underdog, as Canelo is still at the top of his game.
