Cam Newton held his annual 7 on 7 football camp this weekend. It’s in the news right now because one of the participants tried to get some attention by trash-talking the former Panthers quarterback.

He got plenty of that, mostly in the form of getting roasted on social media for being disrespectful to a league MVP doing positive community work. Most people rushed to Newton’s defense for his handling of the situation, including some of his old Carolina teammates. Here’s what they said.
RB Jonathan Stewart
These kids these days have no respect at all! Parents spend time with your kids and raise them to be better than you! The biggest change you have on this world is having a child and raising them well!

WR Torrey Smith
Cam handled that situation better than me. I’m pretty level headed but when it’s time to get petty I can take it to the floor. pic.twitter.com/UsNCBZMI6g

Later, Newton shared his own thoughts on the encounter in a Facebook post.

The kid has since apologized, so maybe he learned his lesson.

If this all sounds a little bit familiar, it’s because a similar story went viral a few years ago when another teen trash-talked Newton at his celebrity kickball game.
High school really is the worst age.
