Chiefs LB Drue Tranquill was mic’d up during Chamarri Conner’s INT vs. Bills

Kansas City #Chiefs LB Drue Tranquill was mic’d up during DB Chamarri Conner’s exciting interception against the Buffalo #Bills in Week 11.

The Kansas City Chiefs defense allowed 30 points for the first time this season in the defending Super Bowl champions’ Week 11 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night.

Despite their relatively poor performance, Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive unit still managed to make several impressive plays and showed outstanding effort against Josh Allen and the Bills’ impressive offense.

Among Kansas City’s top plays in the game was an interception by defensive back Chamarri Conner, which seemed to spark the Chiefs during their comeback attempt at Highmark Stadium.

Veteran linebacker Drue Tranquill was mic’d up during Conner’s interception and could be heard giving words of encouragement to his teammate during the play in a video that was posted to Twitter this morning:

As Spagnuolo, Conner, and Tranquill look to pick up the pieces and get back on track against the Carolina Panthers in Week 12, this video serves to remind fans that despite Kansas City’s loss, its players showed a ton of heart against Buffalo.

The pregame NFL roundtable on CBS Sports did not wait until kickoff to have some fun on Sunday.

The “Game of the Week” in the NFL’s Week 11 slate was clearly the Buffalo Bills hosting the Kansas City Chiefs. In the end, the contest delivered, and the home team ended up with the 30-21 win.

However, prior to kickoff, the coverage team got out the tables. Just about all of them.

The crew, which includes noted former NFL names such as Nate Burleson, Bill Cowher, and more… and jump through tables while broadcasting alongside Bills Mafia in the parking lot around Highmark Stadium.

Chiefs sign blazing-fast former Patriots 2nd round pick to practice squad

The #Chiefs signed former #Patriots second-round pick Tyquan Thornton to their practice squad on Monday after losing to the #Bills in Week 11.

The Kansas City added some serious speed to their receiving corps on Monday after their Week 11 loss to the Buffalo Bills by signing former New England Patriots second-round pick Tyquan Thornton to a practice squad contract.

Thornton, who was released by New England last week, ran a 4.28-second 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL combine and played collegiately at Baylor.

Though Thornton isn’t expected to earn a role in Andy Reid’s offense in his first few weeks with the Chiefs, his addition could prove to be a pivotal moment for Kansas City if the defending Super Bowl champions suffer any more injuries at the wide receiver position.

If Thornton were to be called up from the Chiefs’ practice squad to play against the Carolina Panthers in Week 12, fans in Kansas City might get to see their first glimpse of the blazing speed that made him one of the most coveted prospects in the 2022 NFL draft.

Amari Cooper’s earnest joy after beating the Chiefs doubled as tremendous Browns’ shade

“It’s the first time in a like, long time that I actually felt joy from winning this game.”

Amari Cooper has seen a lot in his decade as an NFL wide receiver.

He came into the league to help spur the then-Oakland Raiders to brief relevance as a contender and back to stasis as an AFC West underdog. He was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, where he was subject to the whims of team owner and de facto general manager Jerry Jones. When Jones could no longer afford him, he took a ride on the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback carousel before a 2024 trade brought him to the Buffalo Bills.

Even though his 2023 Browns qualified for the postseason with a 39-year-old Joe Flacco behind center, it’s clear the five-time Pro Bowler ended up in a better place. He said as much Sunday night after Buffalo’s 30-21 victory over the formerly undefeated Kansas City. It was a statement that showcased gratitude toward the Bills and quiet displeasure with Cleveland.

“It’s the first time in a like, long time that I actually felt joy from winning this game,” Cooper told reporters after Buffalo improved to 8-2. “Just the way we played, from having so many guys on the team who are, you know, playmakers and they come up, they show up when their number is called. Collectively, as a group, it’s just amazing.

“It’s just kind of a different place too, Buffalo, compared to the other places I’ve been to. It’s a tight knit group, I would say. A lot of the guys go out together. They hang around each other 24-7. It truly shows up on the field.”

Brown had two deep receptions for 55 yards in Week 11’s win. While he only has seven catches since being traded in October thanks, in part, to a wrist injury that cost him a pair of games, he’s been a viable deep threat for a team in need of contributors alongside Josh Allen.

Cooper’s played for good quarterbacks before. He’s been on playoff teams. But something in Buffalo appears to be different. Now he’ll have the chance to prove he can be one of those playmakers who steps up as the Bills attempt to shake the postseason woes that have kept them out of the Super Bowl in the Allen era.

Bills’ Terrel Bernard breaks down matchup vs. Chiefs’ Travis Kelce

Bills’ Terrel Bernard breaks down matchup vs. Chiefs’ Travis Kelce

The Bills beat the Chiefs 30-21 at home on Sunday.

The contest that saw the teams’ final scores roughly on average for the season so far also had significant takeaways on and off the field.

But the biggest one belonged to Buffalo linebacker, Terrel Bernard.

With 1:07 left to play in the fourth quarter, the Bills’ defensive captain and play caller took away a Patrick Mahomes pass intended for Kansas City tight end and MGMT “Electric Feel” fan Travis Kelce for an end-game interception.

The entire Buffalo defense ran down to celebrate with him in the end zone after getting in front of Kelce to grab the ball out of the air.

“The main thing is just having awareness of him, “ Bernard said about covering the Chiefs TE to WIVB. “Pre, post-snap, trying to get guys around him as much as possible, playing within our scheme and our system still but understanding he’s going to be one of the first options every pass play.”

It was the second interception for KC’s Mahomes, whose first and last throws in Sunday’s game were caught by Buffalo.

Bernard, who was out during the last meeting between the clubs in January’s divisional round of the playoffs, also had eight tackles and a sack on the day to go with the big-time turnover.

“I think having that awareness, [defensive coordinator] Bobby [Babich] did a great job in the gameplan, all the coaches did, putting him in our minds all week and knowing where he was at and where he was going to be, what he likes to do in certain spots. I think that was a huge factor, and everybody playing to the details of the defense.”

Everything has changed for Kelce since his last matchups against the Bills in which he seemed unstoppable.

He may just want to shake it off, knowing all too well that Bernard and the Bills defense held him to only two catches for eight yards receiving.

But with the win the Bills now have a better shot at a No. 1 seed and a first-round bye, the Chiefs do as well although they are not out of the woods yet.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was complimentary of the Bills when asked what his takeaways off the field were from the loss.

“Things you can learn, the main thing is that they’re a good team and, if you have a few mistakes in there, they can capitalize on them,” Reid said.

The teams could face off again in the postseason, and time will tell which club will play host to the other if they do.

Best photos from Chiefs’ Week 11 loss to Bills at Highmark Stadium

See all the best photographs from the Kansas City #Chiefs’ Week 11 loss to the Buffalo #Bills at Highmark Stadium.

On Sunday, November 17 the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills met for a highly anticipated Week 11 matchup that may end up having huge implications on the AFC playoff picture later this year.

While the Chiefs made a signature late-game comeback attempt in Sunday’s tilt against Buffalo, it wasn’t enough to keep Josh Allen and the Bills from snapping Kansas City’s nine-game winning streak.

Buffalo dominated on both sides of the ball, exposing all of the Chiefs’ weaknesses and toppling Kansas City’s perfect season.

Despite this loss to their rivals, the standings in the AFC remain the same with the Chiefs retaining their lead over the second-place Bills.

Kansas City will have to fight to regain the momentum they built earlier in the regular season and will have a chance to earn their tenth win against the Carolina Panthers on November 24.

The Chiefs’ Week 11 performance was not without exciting moments that fans can appreciate, even after a bitter loss.

Take a look through this collection of the best photos taken at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York:

PFF: Creed Humphrey was Chiefs’ highest-graded player vs. Bills

According to Pro Football Focus, Creed Humphrey was the #Chiefs’ highest-graded player in Kansas City’s Week 11 loss to the Buffalo #Bills.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ undefeated season has officially ended after their disappointing loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

In a game where the Chiefs needed to be perfect to secure a victory, the team struggled on both sides of the ball and couldn’t seem to get out of their own way, committing unnecessary penalties and turning the ball over too many times.

Despite their imperfect performance, Kansas City’s offensive line, led by fourth-year center Creed Humphrey, did their best to counter Buffalo’s vicious pass rush.

On Monday, Pro Football Focus gave Humphrey the highest grade among Chiefs players in Sunday’s loss to the Bills with a grade of 85.9:

The former Oklahoma Sooner has been a standout on this year’s team and is ranked among the best centers in the NFL.

As Kansas City heads to Charlotte this weekend, expect Humphrey to continue his dominance against a struggling Carolina Panthers team.

Was Travis Kelce’s clap after Bills interception trash talk or giving the team its flowers?

Hmmm.

This is a question I have for Travis Kelce, so maybe he’ll answer it on the next New Heights podcast.

What did the clap mean?

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was the intended receiver on the pass that ended up in the hands of the Buffalo Bills’ Terrel Bernard and ended the first loss of 2024 for the Chiefs.

CBS cameras found Kelce, who gave a little round of applause. So I want to know: what’s the meaning behind that?

Either it could be a little sign of respect for the Bills beating the Chiefs and making a statement after all those losses to Kansas City … or it could be a little derisive, as if saying: Oh, good for you. You won in the regular season, let’s see you do it in the postseason.

Hmmm.

Amari Cooper takes subtle jab at Browns after win over Chiefs

Did Amari Cooper take a shot at the Browns?

As the Buffalo Bills handed the Kansas City Chiefs their first loss of the season, wide receiver Amari Cooper took a subtle shot at his former team: the Cleveland Browns.

Speaking to the media in the locker room after the game, Cooper told those in the scrum that this win over the Chiefs was “the first time in a long time that I have felt joy after winning a game.” Meanwhile, the Browns are 2-8 after dropping another ugly game to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

Cooper was traded to the Bills earlier in the season with a sixth round pick in exchange for a third round pick and a seventh round pick. In this game against the Chiefs, Cooper racked up two catches for 55 yards. Since the trade, Cooper has tallied a total of 114 yards and one touchdown on seven catches for the Bills.

The Browns in the meantime have continued to turn to young wideouts Cedric Tillman, Jerry Jeudy, and Elijah Moore who are all experiencing big numbers with Jameis Winston at the helm.

Nothing but the best for Cooper as he plays for a Super Bowl contender.

Bills’ Josh Allen plays it cool after Chiefs: ‘It’s another Week 11 win’

Bills’ Josh Allen plays it cool after Chiefs: ‘It’s another Week 11 win’

Buffalo beat Kansas City in exciting fashion on Sunday.

The club topped the Chiefs 30-21 at home in Orchard Park in front of Bills Mafia on the same field where KC ended its postseason run last year.

Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen put his superhero cape on for the Bills offense when it mattered most, breaking tackles and shaking off defenders for a 26-yard touchdown run on 4th-and-2 with 2:17 left in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.

After the game ended thanks to a win-sealing interception by Terrel Bernard on defense, Allen was asked about his scoring play by CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson.

“Yeah, appreciate Coach McDermott for trusting the offense going out there,” he said. “We had a man play, they dropped out to zone and they had something good for it. I was just trying to make a play and help our team win a football game. You know, some things we need to clean up, some throws I wish I had back, but we’re going into the bye week 9-2…we’ll take it.”

Allen was sacked zero times for the first time against Kansas City since the 2021 regular season, and the team put up their 30 points without key players on offense in receiver Keon Coleman, tight end Dalton Kincaid, and offensive tackle Spencer Brown.

He finished the day Sunday 27-for-40 with 262 yards, a touchdown, and an interception passing to go with another 55 ground yards with the TD.

The scoring rush was his latest in a career highlight reel of making little-to-no/probability plays.

In fact, per NFL Next Gen Stats, there was only a 1.2% chance of scoring a touchdown on the play once he tucked the ball to run.

The Bills hosted their AFC rivals for their fifth regular-season meeting with the QB under center.

The club is now 4-1 in those matchups, becoming the only team in the NFL to log four victories against Chiefs QB and State Farm insurance enthusiast, Patrick Mahomes.

The squad improves to 9-2 overall headed into their bye week. It’s the franchise’s first time at 9-2 since the 1992 NFL season.

The Bills have treated division games as “counting double” but had previously struggled to translate that in conference matchups that could have a bearing on No. 1 seeding and a first-round bye come playoff time.

But not this time.

The final points were roughly on average for what the two teams have put up throughout this season thus far, and it was the Chiefs’ first time giving up more than 28 points in 31 games and the first time allowing 30 points on offense since 2022.

And while Buffalo continues to have success against Kansas City during the regular season, Allen knows they need to beat them in the playoffs and spoke to that while answering whether it was just another Week 11 win for Buffalo.

“It is, it’s another Week 11 win,” he added. “Knowing how things usually play out we’ll probably see this team again at some point. We’ve got to get there first so like I said, we’ll enjoy this bye week and go into the next week after that and put together a good game plan and try to go 1-0.”
