Why Buffalo Bills Will Win

The Bills have made themselves at home.

Moved to Detroit last week after Buffalo got dumped with a gajillion feet of snow, the team got through the change of surroundings – and an illness that hit hard during the week – to get by the Browns to get back on track after a two game losing streak.

What went right? The offense finally stopped turning it over. More specifically, Josh Allen quit throwing that one really bad pass at the really wrong time.

That, and the running game rolled. Now it gets to go against the abysmal Detroit run D that was gouged by Justin Fields and Chicago a few weeks ago, didn’t handle the Giant passing attack last week, and got run over for three touchdowns against Green Bay, and …

Why Detroit Lions Will Win

Won. Detroit’s defense was bad, but the team still managed to win three in a row thanks to all the takeaways.

There were three against the Packers, three more against the Giants, and one really, really big one against the Bears on an inexplicably bad throw by Fields.

+7 in turnover margin over the last four games, that has to continue, the defense has to overcome all the yards it’ll give up by forcing Allen and company to screw up a few times, and on the other side …

What’s Going To Happen

Can Detroit start throwing again?

The running game should work a little bit on the Buffalo defense, but the passing attack has to be there to keep up the pace.

The Bills will shine in the Thanksgiving Day spotlight, Allen will be terrific – even with his banged up elbow – and the defense will overcome a rough start by clamping down on the struggling Lion passing game.

The chalk: Buffalo Bills

Who they play: At Detroit Lions, Thursday 12:30 p.m. (CBS)

I’m not a fan of using a team playing Thanksgiving Day, but the Bills come into this game after beating the Cleveland Browns 31-23 last week in this same stadium.

Buffalo was supposed to host Cleveland in Week 11, but the game was moved to Ford Field due to the snowstorm that dumped on Western New York.

QB Josh Allen (197 passing yards, 1 TD, 0 INT) avoided the interception bug in the win. He had 6 in his previous 3 games, including 2 in the Bills’ Week 10 overtime home loss to the Minnesota Vikings 33-30.

The Bills need to win Thursday to remain on pace with the Miami Dolphins in the AFC East — they’re both 7-3 — and to keep their hopes alive in the race for conference’s No. 1 seed. The Kansas City Chiefs are 8-2, while the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans are both 7-3.

Detroit looked good in a 31-18 road victory at the New York Giants last week. Well, RB Jamaal Williams looked good with his 3 rushing TDs. The rest of the team still needs help and the defense, which held up against the Giants, have another tough test this week.

The Lions were able to contain Giants RB Saquon Barkley, holding him to 22 rushing yards on 15 carries and 13 receiving yards on 2 catches. Now Detroit will have to deal with Buffalo’s RB duo of Devin Singletary and James Cook, while Allen is a huge running threat, too.

With Allen and WR Stefon Diggs leading the way, the Buffalo offense will put up points on a fast track in Detroit. BUFFALO is my FAVORITE SURVIVOR PLAY for Week 12.

Off the board: Miami Dolphins

Who they play: Home vs. Houston Texans, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Miami has been one of the surprise teams this season. QB Tua Tagovailoa and WR Tyreek Hill have found a connection. This has only amplified the effect WR Jaylen Waddle has had opposite Hill. Following his rookie season with 104 catches for 1,015 yards and 6 TDs, Waddle has fit into the WR 2 role perfectly behind Hill.

Miami is coming off its bye week to take on the Texans, the team with the worst record in the NFL at 1-8-1. Coach Lovie Smith has been noncommittal on QB Davis Mills keeping the starting job. If Mills struggles vs. the Dolphins, there could be a quick change to backup QB Kyle Allen, who started 17 games for the Carolina Panthers between 2018-20.

Whether Mills remains the starter or the Texans turn to Allen, the Dolphins should not have any trouble shutting down the Houston offense, which has averaged just 13.3 points per game over the last 4 games.
