Brian Simmons joins UNC football staff

Former UNC Football standout Brian Simmons has joined the staff under Mack Brown, the program announced.

Brian Simmons is returning to North Carolina to join Mack Brown’s staff.

The head coach announced on Tuesday that Simmons was hired as a senior advisor to the head coach and pro liaison. He’s replacing Darrell Moody, who announced his retirement.

Simmons spent four seasons at North Carolina, having a standout career with the Tar Heels earning Consensus First-Team All-America honors, first-team All-ACC recognition and was a two-time team captain.  From there he spent 10 seasons in the NFL and then 8 more years as a scout.

Brown released this statement:

“I want to congratulate Darrell Moody on an outstanding career as a coach, scout and staff member,” Brown said. “Darrell has been around the game a long time and took great pride in developing young men as a coach. He then used that experience to transition to the scouting and evaluation world, again, playing a huge role in helping young football players reach the NFL. We’re grateful for his contributions to the program and wish him nothing but the best in retirement.

Simmons will now work with NFL scouts to assist with their evaluations of Tar Heel players, helping organize the annual pro day, and help provide feedback and assessments with NFL scouts.
