Predicting where 10 Seahawks players will land in free agency

Here are our predictions for 10 Seahawks free agents and where they will end up signing.

Free agency is almost upon us. In less than three weeks the NFL’s legal tamperiod period window will open and teams can begin negotiating with agents who represent free agents. The Seahawks have several key players who are about to hit the market, including seven on Pro Football Focus’ list of the top 150 this year. Odds are they won’t be able to keep all of them and there are a few who they should allow to leave.

Let’s see if we can guess where they’re headed. Here are our predictions for 10 Seahawks free agents and where they will end up signing.

Ranking 2024’s top 12 free-agent linebackers

“Uce” leads the way for this year’s free-agent linebackers.

As they do with pass rusher Brian Burns, the Carolina Panthers have another top defender ready to hit the open market in linebacker Frankie Luvu. And also like Burns, “Uce” may be sticking around for 2024.

But until we find that out, here’s Luvu and the very best of his free-agent contemporaries:

The Seattle Seahawks have a bunch of key players who are about to hit the market.

We are less than one month away from the beginning of the NFL’s 2024 free agency period and the Seattle Seahawks have a bunch of key players who are about to hit the market. Pro Football Focus has named seven of them to their list of the top 150 free agents this year.

Here’s a look at who they are, where they rank on PFF’s list and at their respective positions, plus their grades from the 2023 season.

Bobby Wagner does not hesitate naming biggest hater on Seahawks

This current group is the most talented and colorful that the team has fielded since they were at their peak.

The Seahawks of modern times may not be quite as good as the Legion of Boom rosters of old. However, this current group is the most talented and colorful that the team has fielded since they were at their peak from 2012-2015. The one carry-over from the glory days is middle linebacker Bobby Wagner, who returned to Seattle this past season after spending one year with the Rams.

Wagner led a defense that was a mix of young risers like Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen, as well as seasoned veterans such as himself and Jarran Reed. Another key vet is free safety Quandre Diggs, who has a well-earned title of biggest trash-talker on the team. Just watch Wagner’s response when he was asked who the Seahawks’ biggest hater is at the annual NFL Honors awards show last weekend.

Funny. As for the 2024 season, Wagner is about to become a free agent so the team has a decision to make there. However, if Bobby is willing to stay for anything remotely near what he did this past season then it’s an easy call to bring him back.

As for Diggs, his contract makes him a good candidate to either get cut or be asked to agree to a restructured deal. We should see GM John Schneider starting to make these kinds of decisions soon.

10-point blueprint for the Seattle Seahawks in the 2024 offseason

In honor of their new defense-first head coach Mike Macdonald, we will begin on that side of the ball.

An incredibly high standard has been set for the rest of the NFL. On Sunday evening Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs won their third Super Bowl in the last five years, officially making them the league’s latest dynasty – one that has no end in sight so long as Mahomes’ throwing arm remains attached to his shoulder.

How do the Seahawks and the other 30 teams around the league intend to catch up with Kansas City? The path to the Lombardi trophy is different for every team, of course. For Seattle it’s going to take a serious upgrade in coaching (check) and a couple offseasons of roster-building to even get into the Super Bowl conversation. Let’s begin with what needs to be done over the next few months, culminating with the 2024 NFL draft.

Bobby Wagner talks about his future with the Seahawks

One key factor in that will be his relationship with the team’s new head coach, Mike Macdonald.

Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner played in his ninth Pro Bowl game yesterday, the most of any player on the field. Now heading into his 13th season in the NFL, Wagner faces an uncertain offseason. While he has said he wants to continue playing, his contract is up so he’ll either thave to re-sign with the Seahawks or find work somewhere else – as he did in 2022 with the Rams. If Wagner does decide to stay, he’ll be doing it under a new head coach.

Earlier in the weekend Cameron Wolfe caught up with Wagner, who shared some of his thoughts on Mike Macdonald and the organization.

The players weren’t the problem.

The Seahawks are in the midst of interviewing candidates for their open head coach position for a reason. The shock of Pete Carroll’s removal may not have fully set in for many fans, but the hard truth is that Carroll’s team underperformed this season given the level of talent they had – and Carroll’s defenses had been below average far longer than that.

A coach who occasionally zigged where Carroll would have zagged could have won this team 2-3 more games this year and made the playoffs. That’s why Carroll is now an “advisor” for the team and someone else will be replacing him soon.

To put it another way, the players weren’t the problem.

The team’s salary cap situation won’t make it easy, but Seattle should try to retain at least a handful of defensive free agents who could push this team back into the postseason as soon as 2024 with the right leadership. Here are the top four they should re-sign.
