Bills players won’t panic after opening loss to the Steelers

‘No panic’ is going around the #Bills locker room following their loss to the #Steelers:

With expectations at an all-time high, the Buffalo Bills kicked off their 2021 campaign with a disappointing 23-16 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

While a 0-1 start could feel like the end of the world, BIlls players themselves have a different perspective.

Following the end of the defense’s postgame press conference, Bills safety Micah Hyde yelling, “plenty of games left” as fellow safety, Jordan Poyer responded with, “no panic,” according to The Athletic.

Of course losing one game in a 17-game season, does not spell doom. But it is also certainly not how the Bills wanted to kick things off following their magical run to the AFC Championship Game, the season prior.

Quarterback Josh Allen, who had a mediocre day in his first game since signing a massive $258-million extension in the offseason, knows the team let the fans down. However, he also isn’t ready to hit the panic button.

“I wish we could have put on a better show for the fans,” Allen said to the media after the game. “That’s not how they wanted it, nor us. Hopefully that next game we’ll be able to go out there and give them something they’ll like.”

“We’re gonna learn from this and we’re not gonna panic,” Allen continued. “There’s 16 games left and we know what we need to do and again we’re gonna look at the film and we’re gonna work and strive to get better.”

Bills running back Devin Singletary, who flashed late in the game when the team desperately needed an offensive spark, also emphasized things not being as dire as they appear.

“We gotta execute better, that’s what it comes down to,” Singletary told reporters. “It’s never as bad as it seems, it’s never as good as it seems, it’s just week one. We’ve gotta learn and grow from it.”

While the Bills players certainly seemed to unite on the message that it’s just one game, one person who wasn’t as quick to just dismiss the loss was Bills head coach, Sean McDermott.

McDermott was asked following the game if it was important to emphasize to his team that one loss isn’t something to overly dwell on.

“I’m really just focused on making those adjustments that we need to make,” McDermott said. “That’s what my job is and whatever message… I certainly appreciate the atmosphere today, I thought the fans were phenomenal. Our goal needs to be to get ourselves right so we can recreate that every week here at home.”

The Bills don’t have much time to feel sorry for themselves. The team has another tough test, this time in the division, as they head down to Miami to face the Dolphins in Week 2.

The Bills will need to be better in all three phases of the game, as they look to avoid a 0-2 start.

Bills fans ‘control the atmosphere’ in return to Highmark Stadium

#Bills players felt #BillsMafia vs. the #Packers even if it was just a preseason game:

It might be preseason, but you wouldn’t know it looking out into the crowd at Highmark Stadium during the Bills vs. Packers game on Saturday.

50,000 strong showed up to support the Bills, with many fans getting to see their team live in action for the first time in over a year.

While it was likely a thrill for the fans to get to see a win, it was also special for the players to see the fans back in the stands.

“It was the best feeling to see them fans coming out of the tunnel,” Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins told the media following the 19-0 win. “You know, the Mafia doing what they do. Just seeing all them faces, all that red white and blue. And I’m telling you, this is why Buffalo is so special.”

Dawkins was also excited for his teammates that have yet to get to experience the fan base in full force. Even during Buffalo’s playoff run last season, the crowd was at limited capacity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s just amazing that these guys can finally see why Buffalo is what Buffalo is. Like, Diggs ain’t ever feel that. Like all these young guys, they ain’t ever felt that. And today, it was just a short fuse, but I’m telling you, night games, first game of the season, it’s gonna hit, it’s gonna hit,” Dawkins said.

Sean McDermott shared a similar sentiment when speaking at halftime on the team’s television broadcast, saying “only in Buffalo” do you see 50,000 fans show up like this for a preseason game.

Bills safety Micah Hyde, who had an interception during the first half vs. his former team, was also glad to see Bills fans back impacting the game.

“It’s amazing to see fans out there ya know, screaming. It’s a homefield advantage for us,” Hyde told reporters. “We love to have them back. Not having them last year was kinda unique. A little weird, but getting out here on third down, hearing the crowd get into it. Fourth down, hearing the crowd get into it. It’s special, this place is special.”

Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who had a strong outing during his first preseason action of the season, acknowledged that these exhibition games aren’t just for the players.

“Forcing a timeout too and causing a false start or a delay of game, that’s huge… it’s reps for the fans too,” Allen said smiling. “Come regular season time, that’s what we’re gonna need from them too.”

Bills general manager Brandon Beane joined the broadcast in the booth to discuss a variety of topics, one of which was the Bills Mafia.

Beane mentioned leaving the facility late last night and seeing all the RVs in the lots. Then early this morning smelling the charcoal burning as fans tailgated. To him, there was no better feeling, because it meant that fans were really back.

One of the young guys who had his first chance to play in front of Bills fans today, was quarterback Jake Fromm who is fighting for a roster spot.

This could be Fromm’s only chance to ever play in front of the Mafia, but he made sure to enjoy the moment.

“It was unbelievable. Today, you looked in the stands and it almost looked like a packed house. It was fun,” Fromm said following the game. “Got to see them really have their mark on the game. It was a delay of game, or something when their (Packers) offense was coming to the locker room, but it was awesome. They kind of controlled the atmosphere. It was really just fun to be back out there.”

Bills fans will have many opportunities to make their presence felt as the team opens the regular season with three of its first four games at home.

As Josh Allen mentioned, the Bills will rely on that homefield advantage early and often. As always, the Bills Mafia appears up for the challenge.

5 takeaways from the Bills’ 19-0 preseason win over the Packers

5 takeaways from the #Bills’ 19-0 preseason win over the #Packers:

The Buffalo Bills wrapped up their 2021 exhibition season against the Green Bay Packers. The final score was a 19-0 shutout, and that’s cool and all but most importantly, the team that played in the game is mostly still healthy.

Aside from that, here are five other takeaways from the Bills’ win over the Packers:

Watch: Former Georgia QB Jake Fromm gets first NFL snaps

Fromm took the field on Friday night for the first time since the 2020 Sugar Bowl.

Former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm got the first snaps of his NFL career on Friday night in the Buffalo Bills 16-15 preseason win over the Detroit Lions.

Buffalo drafted Fromm in the 5th round of the 2020 draft after a productive career at Georgia where he helped lead the Bulldogs to an SEC Championship appearance, 2017 SEC Championship title, 2018 Rose Bowl playoff win and a national championship appearance.

Last season, Fromm served as the Bills’ emergency quarterback incase of COVID-19 issues, which kept him away from the team for most of the last year.

Last night Fromm got to take the field for the first time in his young pro career and well, he impressed…

This 42 yard pass set up the Bills’ game-winning field goal. Fromm totaled 65 yards on 8 of 13 passing and took two sacks but looked in-control in his first game appearance since the 2020 Sugar Bowl.

Fromm took to Twitter after the game:

Fromm finished his illustrious career in Athens as the second all-time leader in passing touchdowns (78) and fourth in passing yards (8,224).

The Fromm stat that stands out the most – he maintained a perfect record in the SEC East over his three seasons except for South Carolina in 2019, that includes a spotless 3-0 record over the Gators from Gainesville.

You can catch Fromm and the Bills in another preseason matchup on Saturday, Aug. 21 as they take on the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.

WATCH: GMFB says Bills Mafia gave ‘unbelievable effort’ vs. Ravens

NFL Network’s Good Morning Football on Buffalo Bills Mafia during Baltimore Ravens meeting.

The Bills Mafia was praised earlier this week by NFL Network’s Good Morning Football. Analyst Kyle Brandt, who produced a Bills pump up video prior to the team’s Divisional win vs. the Ravens, was thoroughly impressed.

Pointing to what some Baltimore players even said about how loud the crowd was, Brandt added to the praise of Buffalo fans.

“(Bills fans) were actually affecting this game. (The Ravens) had major issues,” Brandt said. “I really thought that home-field advantage really played a distinct part in this win, I mean it.”

Bills fans donate to Lamar Jackson’s favorite charity after injury

Buffalo Bills Mafia fans donate to Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson’s favorite charity after injury in AFC Divisional round.

The Bills beat the Ravens in the AFC Divisional round and while it’s something Buffalo couldn’t control, no one really liked seeing what happened to Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson.

On the final play of the third quarter, Jackson tracked down a bad snap and ran backward. He eventually was knocked by Bills defenders Tremaine Edmunds and Trent Murphy with clean hits. However, Jackson’s head caught the turf and he had to exit the game.

According to Ravens Wire, Jackson did fly back to Baltimore last night with his teammates. He didn’t return to the game though, a contest which went down as a 17-3 final.

Always humble, fans of the Bills did what they’re known best for in recent years. They donated to Jackson’s favorite charity, Blessings in a Backpack, as a way to send well-wishes to the QB. As mentioned, Western New York is happy their Bills won, but nobody wanted to see that.

Some folks suggested donating in $8 increments because of Jackson’s number. As of early Sunday afternoon, per WKBW-TV in Buffalo, the charitable organization received near $75,000 in donations in Jackson’s name.

Further donations can be made on Blessings in a Backpack here, but regardless, it’s already a fantastic gesture from The City of Good Neighbors.

Bills Mafia stays classy, donates to one of Lamar Jackson’s favorite charities after Ravens’ loss

After Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was knocked from the game, Buffalo Bills fans donated to his favorite charity

The Baltimore Ravens’ season didn’t end exactly how everyone hoped or expected it would. But some good came out of Baltimore’s loss, as hard as that is to fathom.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was knocked out of the game after taking a vicious hit in the end zone, having his head bounce off the ground. It was a scary moment as Jackson stayed on the turf for quite some time, though he eventually walked off the field and into the locker room on his own.

Buffalo Bills fans, more commonly known as “Bills Mafia” went out of their way to stay classy after the game. The outpouring of respect, condolences, and those wishing Jackson a speedy recovery were already enough to bring a tear to the eyes of even the sorest of losers. But Bills fans took it a step further, donating to one of Lamar Jackson’s favorite charities after the game.

Immediately following Buffalo’s 17-3 win over Baltimore, Bills fans took to Twitter and Reddit with the donation information for Louisville’s Blessings In A Backpack charity. While it’s unclear exactly how much was donated, many fans talked about donating $8 (Jackson’s jersey number) or $17 (the number of points Buffalo scored and quarterback Josh Allen’s jersey number).

There’s little more to say than Bills Mafia showed some real class and hopefully, it’s something all sports fans can learn from. Go circle those wagons Buffalo and represent the AFC in Super Bowl LV.
