Texas’ five-star running back Bijan Robinson showcased why he’s one of the nation’s top backs in the Polynesian Bowl.

Texas football fans will likely get used to seeing this.

Running back Bijan Robinson is the highest-rated player in head coach Tom Herman’s 2020 recruiting class. As we reported previously, Robinson participated in the Polynesian Bowl yesterday with fellow Texas signee Prince Dorbah.

Robinson demonstrated why he’s one of the nation’s top backs. With only eight carries, he rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown.

The five-star athlete is expected to make an immediate impact as a true freshman for the Longhorns.

One Texas Longhorn Makes USA Today Sports All-Bowl Team

One Texas Longhorn makes list of USA Today Sports’ all-bowl team for his performance against the Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl.

With the college football bowl season behind us, USA Today Sports writer Paul Myerberg has compiled his list for the All-Bowl team. The Longhorns had several players who could have made the team but ultimately only one was chosen for his Alamo Bowl performance.

Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger had a worthy performance but it wasn’t enough to outshine Joe Burrow of LSU with his Heisman run to the National Championship. Running Back Keaontay Ingram was the other offensive star worthy of acknowledgement with his 15 touches for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Ultimately that performance couldn’t outshine Journey Brown of Penn State or Travis Etienne of Clemson.

Defensively the Longhorns linebacker Joseph Ossai was recognized for his performance in the Texas 38-10 victory over Utah. Ossai was able to harass the Utes’ quarterback Tyler Huntley to the tune of three sacks to go with his nine combined tackles. The sophomore linebacker is looking to make an even bigger impact in his junior campaign.

Joseph Ossai finished the season with 90 total tackles, 13.5 for loss, five sacks and two interceptions.

Texas officially hires Jay Boulware from Oklahoma

The Longhorns have officially hired Texas alum Jay Boulware as the tight ends coach and the associate head coach for special teams.

The Longhorns have officially hired Jay Boulware as the tight ends coach and the associate head coach for special teams. Playing offensive tackle for the Longhorns in 1991 and 1992, Boulware is a Texas alum from Irving, Texas.

Starting his coaching career in Texas, Boulware was a graduate assistant for the Longhorns from 1994-1996. Also coaching tight ends, over two decades later, he is back in Austin to the same position.

Hiring him from Oklahoma, he was with the Sooners for seven years as their running back coach and special teams coordinator. Boulware has coached all across the country, coaching at Northern Illinois, Arizona, Stanford, Utah, Iowa State, and Auburn.

After hiring Mike Yurcich as the offensive coordinator, the Longhorns have almost made all of the hires to wrap up their offensive staff. With a lot of starters coming back for Yurcich, there will be a lot of expectations on the offensive side of the ball. Boulware will help the tight ends become a threat for Sam Ehlinger.

Malcolm Roach Standing Out In NFLPA Practice

For Malcolm Roach it was important to put his best foot forward during the NFLPA Bowl week, it appears as he is getting noticed.

For some players looking to get drafted and pursue their NFL dreams, they need a little more attention than what they provided during their collegiate careers. For the lesser known players, such as Malcolm Roach the NFLPA Bowl is a great way to work with NFL personnel and get more exposure with NFL scouts.

Players such as Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen was able to parlay this game week into a NFL career. He was an undersized running back out of North Carolina A&T University. Much like Roach, Cohen didn’t receive much national recognition. Roach is making the most of his opportunity.

Given his size, Roach is likely going to project to the NFL from defensive tackle. A good performances in games like the NFLPA Bowl or Shine Game sometimes earns them an invite to Mobile, Alabama and the Senior Bowl. For Roach, a good performance this week and in the game on Saturday could just be the start he needs to launch his draft stock up on some team’s board.

2020 Texas Longhorns: Malcolm Epps Profile

The Texas Longhorns will need players to step up in 2020, Malcolm Epps could be one of those players.

In 2019, Malcolm Epps was used in the wide receiver role mostly due to needing depth at the position with injuries to Collin Johnson that elevated Brannon Eagles into a starting role for half of the season. Another reason this factored in was the fact that Cade Brewer was starting at tight end. Epps was a hybrid tight end-wide receiver that has become such a craze in the NFL.

Standing 6’6″, Epps is a huge target that the Longhorns could use in 2020 especially in the red zone. With his height and long arms, it gives quarterback Sam Ehlinger a big target next season. His catch radius is huge and he will catch passes outside of that huge frame.

Epps can line up in the slot to create mismatches, he still needs to work on his blocking to be an inline tight end. Given that he played basketball allows him to fall on that experience to block out defenders on contested catches. With a player his size and catching ability, all you need to do is throw it up and let Epps go get it. Not many defenders will have the length to contend with him down the field.

Tight end isn’t really a position that has provided much of a presence in the passing game over the years for Texas but that could all change in the upcoming season. Not only because of Epps and Brewer but new play caller Mike Yurcich likes to get the tight ends involved in the passing game. He used multiple tight ends this past season at Ohio State.

Former Texas DT Malcolm Roach to play in NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

A former four-year player at Texas, defensive lineman Malcolm Roach will be participating in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on January 18.

For draft-eligible players, receiving an invite to a post-season all star game is an incredible opportunity to showcase talents in front of NFL scouts and coaches.

Former Texas defensive lineman Malcolm Roach is one of the few fortunate to have that chance. Roach will be participating in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in Pasadena, California on Saturday, January 18. The game will be televised on NFL Network at 7 p.m. EST

Roach appeared in 42 games for the Longhorns throughout his four-year career, recording 134 tackles and eight sacks. As a freshman in 2016, Roach received the Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year honor.

Voted as team captain for Texas’ 2019 season, it’s clear that Roach possesses a rare leadership quality both on and off the field.

Roach’s hard-nosed style of play is contagious. Although he is currently projected to be a late-round draft pick or an undrafted free agent, a powerful showing from Roach in the NFPLA Bowl could significantly increase his draft stock.

2020 East-West Shrine Game: Texas OL Shackelford can improve draft stock

Texas offensive lineman Zach Shackelford, a consistent starter at center, has a chance to improve his NFL Draft stock at the Shrine game.

A four-year starter for the Longhorns, offensive lineman Zach Shackelford has a chance to improve his NFL Draft stock with a solid performance in the 2020 East-West Shrine game on Saturday, January 18.

The Shrine game is an invite-only event for college seniors based on a player’s ability to make an NFL roster. Several successful professional players such as Tom Brady, Brett Favre, and John Elway have all taken advantage of this opportunity in the past.

Shackelford has been seemingly overlooked as one of the draft eligible prospects from Texas. Wide receiver’s Devin Duvernay, Collin Johnson, and safety Brandon Jones have noticeably received the most hype with invitations to the Senior Bowl, higher draft projections, etc.

Quarterback Sam Ehlinger has benefited greatly from Shackelford’s strong base in pass protection. A consistent starter at center for the Longhorns, Shackelford was elected as a team captain for the 2019 season.

After earning first-team All Big 12 honors, Shackelford is projected to be a day three selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Watch Shackelford’s quest to impress top representatives from NFL teams at 3:00 p.m. EST on NFL Network.

The former Longhorn will be wearing No. 56 on the West roster.
