Twitter reacts as Ron Torbert named referee for Cowboys-Packers wild-card game

NFL fans react to Ron Torbert being named referee for Cowboys-Packers, along with some historic rants on his prior games. | From @ArmyChiefW3

The Dallas Cowboys are quite familiar with the ways of the flag. The team finished the regular season as the second-most penalized team in the league, tying the Cleveland Browns with 115 assessed. Only the Jets, with 124 penalties, had more. But the volume of laundry thrown their way isn’t the only gripe.

Superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons has inexplicably gone 11 full games without a holding penalty even though it appears he gets held the majority of the contest. Parsons has even gone as far as apologizing to the refs on his podcast in hopes of forcing opposing teams to play him fairly. So when it comes to referee assignments for their playoff run, a keen eye is on alert.

Ron Torbert has been assigned to this week’s Cowboys game against the Packers which elicited a few strong reactions. Torbert and his crew have penalized home teams more often than the visitors, and like most referees in the NFL these days, he’s had his fair share of tumultuous contests. Fans from both teams had interesting things to say about the assignment.

Here are some of the best reactions so far, along with some tweets from disgruntled fans of prior contests.

‘Dak faked out the entire state of Florida’ and other great Cowboys-Bucs tweets

Here’s how Twitter responded to the Cowboys taking down Tom Brady and company. | From @ProfessorO_NFL

“How bout them Cowboys?” The Cowboys showed up on Monday night and left no doubt that they were the better team with a statement victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and legendary QB Tom Brady.

Scoring 31 points against a tough defense is impressive. Doing that on the road in the playoffs is even more impressive.  The defense set the tone early and suffocated the Bucs offense forcing multiple frustating possessions for Tom Brady and didn’t ease their grip until the game clock hit zero.

The Offense started out slow for two possessions before Dak Prescott and company exploded with multiple 80+ yard touchdown drives. The passing attack was surgical and Tony Pollard was the leading rusher.

Twitter reactions are always fun but they are even better after a Cowboys playoff victory. Without further adeiu, here is the best reactions to the Cowboys 31-14 win over the Bucs.

Best Twitter Reactions to Cowboys win: ‘Storm Trooper vibes’, ‘Hot buttered pretzels’

It wasn’t pretty nor dominant, but it was a victory and most importantly, it was No.12. Check out how Twitter reacted along the way as the Cowboys beat the Titans. | From @ProfessorO_NFL

Playing a road game on short rest isn’t easy, and the Dallas Cowboys proved that to be the case as they secured their 12th win of the season in a sloppy effort on Thursday night. The Cowboys offense turned the ball over three times in the first half and kept the Titans in the game. They were able to do enough in the second half, thanks to Dak Prescott’s strong connection to Dalton Schultz and CeeDee Lamb.

The Titans elected to start journeyman QB Josh Dobbs, despite signing him just eight days prior, and were able to hang around as the Tennessee offense did their best to apply pressure and take advantage of their gifted opportunities.

Ultimately the Cowboys were able to secure the win and have now posted back-to-back 12-win seasons for the first time since 1994-1995. It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t dominant, but it was a victory, and Twitter reacted to all of it. Here are the best reactions to the Cowboys 27-13 victory over the the Titans.

Here’s how Twitter reacted during Cowboys’ sleepwalk, grand rising vs Texans

The Cowboys faced a team they were expected to roll, but the hard-hitting Texans fought until the real Dallas showed up. Here’s how Twitter reacted. | From @ProfessorO_NFL

The Dallas Cowboys won their 10th game of the season in exciting yet excruciating fashion.  Facing the 1-10-1 Houston Texans and favored by 17.5 points, things did not go the way many expected.

The Texans reached deep in their offensive playbook, using pre-snap shifts and tricky formations, went for it on 4th-and-goal and even rotated quarterbacks within drives. The Cowboys, who have one of the best defensive units, found themselves struggling to get off the field. Lacking much of a pass rush they trailed late into the game despite facing one of the worst offenses in the league.

The Cowboys offense, meanwhile has been one of the best in the league since Dak Prescott’s return. Yet they also struggled with two interceptions, multiple dropped passes and a failed 4th-and-goal. Yet somehow, when they were backed all the way into the corner, already trailing with a double-digit deficit 1st-and-goal-from-the-four away, both units surged into action.

This game could be summarized as ugly, awful, embarrassing… but most importantly, a win to keep pace in the NFC playoff picture. Here are the best reactions to the Cowboys 27-23 win over Houston.

Tasty Twitter reactions to Cowboys 40 burger on Vikings

The Cowboys showed up in all three phases in a dominating performance over the Minnesota Vikings. Twitter reacted to the W. 👀😁👀 From @ProfessorO_NFL

The Dallas Cowboys talked the talk all week, citing their frustration with the way things ended against the Green Bay Packers and being ready for the Minnesota Vikings. QB Dak Prescott went as far as calling it a “Playoff game.”

Could they back that talk up? Yes. They walked the walked to the point CBS threw in the towel on the game in the third quarter. Not in the final minutes, they called it a night with a full quarter to go.

As one would expect, the Cowboys fanbase was elated by the team’s offensive explosion and delighted by the defense barring their teeth as the pass rush completely overwhelmed the Vikings offensive line once Christian Darrisaw left the game. Here’s the best reactions to the Cowboys 40-3 domination of the Minnesota Vikings.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to CBS pulling plug on Cowboys’ blowout of Vikings

CBS had the 6-3 Cowboys vs the 8-1 Vikings televised nationwide in a premium time slot but quickly pulled the plug in the 2nd half . Yikes. | From @ProfessorO_NFL

The Dallas Cowboys came into Week 11 needing a bounce-back victory to stay in contention for the NFC East division race. They had a bit of good fortune in the early afternoon games with the Detroit Lions upsetting the New York Giants, but they still had to handle their own business.

In search of a win against a quality opponent, the Cowboys flexed their muscles and routed the previously 8-1 Minnesota Vikings on the road. They didn’t just win, they put the screws to a team with a seven-game winning streak. Dallas was so dominant, in fact, that CBS decided they had seen enough in the third quarter.

It’s not uncommon for a network to move on from a game early if it’s lopsided but switching before the third quarter ends was definitely an unpopular decision among those reveling in Dallas’ display of force. Many took to Twitter to let their disdain be known. Here are the best reactions to CBS’ decision to pull the plug on the Cowboys-Vikings nationally-televised game feed early.

Nom, Nom, Nom: Twitter reacts to Cowboys’ 40-burger win over Bears

The Cowboys offense put on their best performance of the season and Twitter didn’t disappoint. @ProfessorO_NFL takes a look at the best reactions of Week 8.

Did somebody order a “40 burger”? While it may be too early to proclaim that the offense is officially back, it was certainly a sight for sore eyes. Entering Week 8 with a lengthy list of injuries and a bye looming, the Cowboys elected to play it safe and opted to rest several key players including: RB Ezekiel Elliott, WR Noah Brown, DE Sam Williams and S Malik Hooker.

Tony Pollard had his opportunity to showcase what he is capable of and delivered three touchdown runs and over 150 combined yards. Quarterback Dak Prescott had his best performance of the season and looked sharp as he dissected the Bears secondary. With a final score of 49-29, the Cowboys improved their record to 6-2 as the enter the bye week. Here are the best Twitter reactions of the Cowboys win over the Chicago Bears.

Twitter reacts to Cowboys 22-10 win over Rams, ‘Dorance about to get a Madden upgrade’

Vegas favored the Rams by 5.5 but the Cowboys had other plans, beating the Rams 22-10 on the road. Cowboys? W. Twitter reactions? W. | From @ProfessorO_NFL

The Dallas Cowboys traveled to the west coast to face the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams, returning to Texas victorious by the score of 22-10. The defense set the tone early with a scoop and score touchdown and then followed that up with a blocked punt to spot the offense a 9-0 lead and relentlessly pressured Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, notching five sacks and three takeaways.

The offense was able to run the ball on a tough Rams defense and generated 163 yards on the ground with a spectacular run by Tony Pollard being the offensive highlight of the day. Vegas had the Rams as 5.5 point home favorites but the Cowboys had other ideas and Twitter reacted to all of it. Here’s the best of Twitter reactions to the Cowboys impressive road win over the Rams.
