Bears QB Caleb Williams connects with fan after jersey mishap

A Bears fan went viral on social media after Fanatics told him his jersey wouldn’t arrive for months. Caleb Williams came to the rescue.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has only been a professional for a couple of months, but he is already showing that he’s a man of the people.

Late last week, a Bears fan by the name of Connor Burns made waves on social media when he posted a message from Fanatics about a Caleb Williams jersey he ordered. Burns was outraged when the company told him the jersey he ordered back in April would not arrive until late September. He called on the Bears and Williams for help in his post, which went viral with 6 million views.

After Burns posted the back and forth between him and Fanatics, Williams responded. “I heard that there was a bit of confusion with the whole jersey situation, so just wanted to reach out and let you know that Fanatics said that you’ll be one of the first to receive [one],” Williams said. He also provided Burns with another gift. “Much love, thanks for the support, and I got a little gift for you. We’ll be inviting you to a game on our behalf. Like I said, much love and thanks for the support. Go Bears.”

Though Burns tagged Williams in the post, the Bears quarterback had zero obligation to respond as the issue was with Fanatics, but he did try and remedy the situation as best he could. Williams has already ingratiated himself with Bears fans, like being out at Chicago Cubs, White Sox, or Sky games or showing up at his teammates football camps, and now he’s helping fans like Burns who can’t wait to support the new Bears quarterback when he steps on the field.

Though he has yet to throw a pass in any sort of NFL game, Williams has already won over the fanbase in part thanks to his charismatic behavior.

Bears fans are beside themselves after the crushing loss to the Buccaneers

Bears fans are going through it after the crushing 27-17 loss to the Buccaneers.

Any hope of a comeback by the Chicago Bears against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was erased thanks to one questionable play call that led to a defensive touchdown. Bears quarterback Justin Fields had an opportunity to lead a comeback down three points, but a screen pass to Khalil Herbert deep in their own territory ended up getting picked off by Buccaneers linebacker Shaq Barrett for a pick-six, icing the game for Tampa 27-17.

The Bears officially start the season 0-2 with too many questions and not enough answers. The offense was too inconsistent despite showing flashes early, and the defense could only bend before breaking in the suffocating heat and humidity. It was a game that was within reach for much of the day, but now Chicago is winless and staring down the barrel with the Kansas City Chiefs waiting in the wings.

With another loss, Bears fans are going through it, wondering why offensive coordinator Luke Getsy called a screen pass when they were backed up in their own territory, questioning Fields’ play, and everything in between. Here’s how fans are reacting on social media.

Winners and losers following first week of Bears training camp

After seven days of Bears training camp practices, here are our winners and losers up to this point.

Seven training camp practices have come and gone for the Chicago Bears up at Halas Hall and things are starting to fall in place at certain positions. There’s been some good, some bad, and even a little ugly at certain points depending on your perspective. But it’s all with a goal to grow as a team and prepare for the 2023 regular season that lies ahead.

Over the course of those seven practices, specific players have risen to the top and shined at crucial moments. Others, however, haven’t had the camp many envisioned they would up to this point.

It’s still early, but it’s clear some are in better spots than others. Here are the winners and losers of the first week of Bears training camp

Bears fans can’t stop making mock drafts

According to Pro Football Focus, Bears fans used their mock draft simulator the most this year and it’s not close.

The 2023 NFL Draft is only hours away and fans of the Chicago Bears will finally learn which players will be joining the team after months of speculation.

Perhaps more importantly, they will be able to put down their mock draft simulators for the foreseeable future. But judging by data released from Pro Football Focus (PFF), that could prove to be difficult.

On Wednesday, PFF released data from their mock draft simulator showing which teams were most used this draft cycle. To the surprise of no one, the Bears were far and away No. 1 on the list with a relative frequency of just under 9%. The Detroit Lions came in second, while teams with no first-round picks such as the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Rams, and San Francisco 49ers all were at the bottom.

Mock draft simulators have become increasingly popular over the last few years. Fans can play the role of general manager by making selections and even trades to build their ideal draft class. Since the Bears spent much of the year with one of the worst records in the league, coupled with the fact they had a first-round pick for just the second time in five years, it’s not shocking to see the team at the top of the list.

Since the 2022 season ended, the Bears held the No. 1 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft and fans went wild with different scenarios, whether it was trading the pick or selecting the top player on the board. When the team traded out of that spot with the Carolina Panthers in early March, moving down to No. 9 for a plethora of future picks and wide receiver D.J. Moore, it presented another fun challenge for fans to try and determine what the team should do. Whether it’s selecting an offensive lineman, defensive tackle, or even a wide receiver, almost every possible scenario has been dreamt up in a simulator.

But now that the draft is finally approaching, those mock drafts will dissipate for the time being when the actual picks begin rolling in. But it’s only a matter of time until the 2024 draft mock drafts start coming out. Hopefully the team is competitive enough where making mock drafts won’t be more entertaining than watching the final few games of the season.

Twitter reacts to RB David Montgomery signing with the Lions

David Montgomery is heading to a division rival and many Bears fans are upset after losing one of their favorite players.

A fan-favorite Chicago Bear has found a new home, but isn’t going far. Former Bears running back David Montgomery is signing with the Detroit Lions on a three-year deal. The news was first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Montgomery was drafted by the Bears in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Iowa State. He became their bell cow back, rushing for over 800 yards in each of his four seasons. He played in 16 games in 2022, rushing for 801 yards and five rushing touchdowns while splitting time with Khalil Herbert. His best year came in 2020 when he eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. Now, Montgomery joins the Lions as one of their featured backs, likely replacing free agent Jamaal Williams.

Many Bears fans were bracing for the reality that Montgomery would not return, but knowing he’s going to a division rival makes the move sting just a little bit more. Here are some of the fan reactions on Twitter.

Beer down: Survey says Bears fans drink more than most NFL fanbases

A new survey indicates the Bears fanbase consumes the third-most alcoholic beverages during games and at tailgates.

When football season officially begins, there’s nothing like having a cold drink in your hand while watching your favorite team on a Sunday afternoon. Or enjoying a beer with your friends during a tailgating party, patiently waiting for the game to begin. For fans of the Chicago Bears, though, chances are they’re drinking more than a couple when their team is involved.

Sportshandle.com, a legal sports betting site, recently surveyed more than 2,000 fans over the age of 21 of all NFL teams to determine which fanbase, on average, consumes the most alcoholic beverages during the game and at a tailgate.

The Bears fanbase finished in a tie for third place with the Buffalo Bills, averaging 4.5 drinks per game. Only Cincinnati Bengals fans (5.2) and Baltimore Ravens fans (4.7) ranked higher.

Those drinks don’t come cheap either, as Bears fans reportedly spend an average of $58.12 on alcoholic beverages, second-most among all fanbases.

The party isn’t just confined to the game, as 72% of Bears fans surveyed said they’re most likely to drink prior to the game kicking off. That percentage is the fourth-highest behind fans of the Bills (83%), Carolina Panthers (81%), and Atlanta Falcons (74%).

Are the numbers higher for Bears fans due to the team’s performance? Or maybe just the atmosphere of a packed bar or gathering with friends? Regardless, with fans expected back at Soldier Field in just a couple of weeks for the first time since 2019, you can bet that many drinks will be consumed when the Bears take on the Miami Dolphins in the preseason opener.

As always, it’s important Bears fans drink responsibly before and during games.
