Alabama’s top prospects shine in blowout win vs. Auburn

Mac Jones, DeVonta Smith and Najee’ Harris led the way for Alabama in a dominant Iron Bowl win over Auburn

The Iron Bowl is always one of the most hard-fought rivalry games in college football every year, but this year’s edition wasn’t competitive for very long, as Alabama dominated Auburn in a 42-13 blowout.

The Crimson Tide was led by their big-name prospects, as quarterback Mac Jones became just the second quarterback in school history to toss five touchdown passes in the Iron Bowl, joining Tua Tagovailoa. DeVonta Smith was once again his favorite target, hauling in seven passes for a whopping 171 yards and two touchdowns, averaging nearly 25 yards per catch. Najee’ Harris racked up 130 total yards on just 13 touches, including a 39-yard touchdown run.

Jones is likely headed for Day 2 consideration in the 2021 NFL draft, while Smith and Harris are potential first-round prospects.

Kirk Herbstreit updates his top six college football rankings

College football analyst Kirk Herbstreit released his latest rankings of the top teams in the country including Notre Dame, Alabama and more

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit released his latest rankings of the top college football teams in the country. There weren’t any upsets in Week 12’s action.

Ohio State narrowly defeated a pesky Indiana team, Clemson’s game at Florida State was postponed, Alabama dominated Kentucky in a sixty point victory, Florida won in a SEC game against Vanderbilt, and Cincinnati topped UCF.

Overall, Cincinnati’s win and Ohio State’s win were the two biggest storylines of the week.  Another interesting development was the incredible debut performance of Georgia Bulldogs quarterback JT Daniels. Daniels transferred to the University of Georgia after being a five-star recruit, who played at USC, then tore his ACL in a game for the Trojans last season.

In the SEC, Alabama and Florida are on a crash course to play each other in the SEC Championship Game. Will either team be tested in their remaining games? Florida plays Kentucky this week and Alabama plays the Auburn Tigers.

In the ACC, Notre Dame and Clemson are probably going to play each other in a rematch in the ACC Championship Game. Ohio State looks like the only other serious College Football Playoff contender.

Here’s who Kirk Herbstreit puts in his top six schools:

Notably, Herbstreit doesn’t put the BYU Cougars or Texas A&M Aggies in the top six. Both teams will need some help to make the College Football Playoff. BYU may not be able to make it at all after playing one of the easiest slates of games major college football has ever seen.

Alabama WR DeVonta Smith breaks SEC career receiving TD record

Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith now has the most career receiving touchdowns in SEC history

The Southeastern Conference has seen some of the best wide receivers in college football history come through their ranks over the years, but none of them have caught more touchdown passes in their careers than Alabama’s DeVonta Smith.

Smith caught yet another score in Saturday’s game against Kentucky, giving him 32 touchdown receptions in his career.

One of the top pass-catchers in the 2021 NFL draft class, Smith is projected as a first-round pick, and he’s doing his stock plenty of favors with his performance so far this season.

SEC TV schedule released for Nov. 14: Dawgs play early

The SEC has released the conference TV schedule for Nov. 14, including UGA at Missouri, TAMU at Tennessee, LSU versus Alabama, and more.

The SEC has released the conference TV schedule for Nov. 14. College football will share the day with the Masters in what will be a special day for sports fans across the country.

The SEC will have its usual slate of quality matchups. The Georgia Bulldogs travel to face the Missouri Tigers in an SEC East clash. The game is set to have a noon kickoff. The Dawgs and Tigers will be televised on ESPN.

Texas A&M at Tennessee constitutes another great game. The Aggies will look to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive against the upset-minded Volunteers.

The headliner for the week is Alabama at LSU. Can the LSU Tigers put up a fight against the Crimson Tide? LSU was up to the task last season, but lost a lot of talent and experience from its 2019 SEC Championship squad. The Crimson Tide and Tigers face off at 6 p.m. in what will be a night game in Death Valley.

Here’s the full SEC football schedule for Nov. 14, including the TV channels:

Lastly, the Arkansas Razorbacks at Florida Gators is an intriguing game. The Sam Pittman-led Razorbacks are playing much better this season and Florida will have just faced the Georgia Bulldogs. Could Kyle Trask and the Gators have a letdown?

Alabama WR DeVonta Smith torches Mississippi State for 200 yards, 4 TDs

Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith put on a show against Mississippi State

Alabama dominated Mississippi State on Saturday night, and they got a huge performance from their top pass-catcher.

DeVonta Smith hauled in 11 passes for 203 yards and four touchdown catches, putting on a show for NFL decision-makers as they look ahead to the 2021 NFL draft.

With fellow first-round prospect Jaylen Waddle out for the season, Smith is proving he can handle any extra attention that might come his way from opposing defenses.

Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle leaves game with ankle injury

Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle appeared to suffer an ankle injury on the opening kickoff of Saturday’s game against Tennessee

On the first play of Saturday’s game against Tennessee, Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle suffered what appeared to be an ankle injury, and immediately left the game.

Waddle was injured at the end of returning the opening kickoff, and looked visibly upset as he grabbed his ankle and then limped off the field. He would eventually be helped to a cart before heading back to the locker room.

One of the most explosive playmakers in all of college football, Waddle is also one of the top prospects at his position in the 2021 NFL Draft class. If the injury proves to be significant, it will leave the Crimson Tide with a huge absence as they try to remain undefeated and chase another national title.

Kirk Herbstreit’s new top six rankings: UGA stays in top four

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit released his updated college football rankings following the Georgia versus Alabama game.

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit released his updated rankings of the top college football teams who have played so far this season. His top six excludes top teams like Ohio State and Penn State because they haven’t played. The Big Ten starts conference play next weekend.

Herbstreit ranks his College Football Playoff contenders after the Georgia Bulldogs fell 41-24 to the Alabama Crimson Tide in a top five matchup. Alabama looked impressive, as did Clemson, who absolutely dominated Georgia Tech. What else is new in college football?

Additionally, the Florida State Seminoles beat the UNC Tar Heels in an upset victory. UNC came into the game as one of the highest rated teams in the count.

Below is who Kirk Herbstreit puts in his top six rankings. He ranks the Georgia Bulldogs third now (remember no Pac-12 or Big Ten). He ranked UGA second and Bama third last week, so the Bulldogs did lose one spot.

It is hard to disagree with the top teams in Herbstreit’s rankings. The Clemson Tigers look strong and Alabama has an explosive offense. Ohio State will climb into the rankings as soon as they play.

Notre Dame, who Herbstreit ranks fourth, struggled in a one possession win over Louisville.

Texas A&M and BYU round out Herbstreit’s rankings. BYU seems overrated considering who it has played and how unimpressive they were in a seven point win over UTSA and considering their weak schedule. Texas A&M won by two touchdowns over Mississippi State.

Georgia is still clearly in the College Football Playoff hunt, but now can’t afford to lose another game.

What UGA football social media said following loss at Alabama

The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Georgia Bulldogs for a sixth time in a row on Saturday night. Bama beat UGA 41-24.

[jwplayer FpdiEnjh-er0jUifI]

The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Georgia Bulldogs for a sixth time in a row on Saturday night. The series has been frustrating for Georgia fans who feel like they can’t catch a break versus the Crimson Tide.

Georgia lost 41-24 and blew yet another halftime lead against Alabama. Stetson Bennett threw three interceptions, struggled with battled down passes, and provided a few big plays, but failed to have consistent good ball placement.

Georgia is now 3-1, while Alabama moves to 4-0 and is the only remaining undefeated team in the SEC. Georgia will have a small margin of error for the rest of the season. The Bulldogs can’t afford to lose another game and expect to make the College Football Playoff. Georgia has a bye week upcoming.

Mac Jones, Nick Saban and the Alabama offense deserve some serious credit. They played efficiently all night and blocked Georgia’s pass rush well. The UGA defense was shredded by big plays from DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle.

Georgia football Twitter was not pleased with another defeat at the hands of Alabama:

This was a momentum changing play:

SEC Week 5 Conference Power Rankings

The Alabama Crimson Tide top the week 5 SEC Power Rankings following their win over Georgia.

[jwplayer FpdiEnjh-er0jUifI]

The Georgia Bulldogs got outscored 21-0 in the second half against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Stetson Bennett threw three interceptions for the University of Georgia. The Dawgs fell 41-24 to Alabama, who showed off their superior offense and quarterback play.

Mac Jones, Jaylen Waddle, and DeVonta Smith had their way with Georgia’s defense. The Alabama offensive line won the battle in the trenches and their defense got a pair of deflections that led to interceptions.

Additionally, in week five SEC action, the Arkansas Razorbacks beat the Ole Miss Rebels. Jimbo Fisher, Kellen Mond, and the Texas A&M Aggies defeated Mike Leach and the reeling Mississippi State Bulldogs.

South Carolina got a huge win over Auburn and Kentucky blew out Tennessee. Here’s SEC Mike’s week five power rankings:

What do you think of the rankings. It is hard to disagree with the top. Texas A&M should probably be over Arkansas and Ole Miss seems too high, but they did beat Kentucky.
