Soak it in: Georgia football wins national championship

The Georgia Bulldogs are finally national champions! Kirby Smart, Stetson Bennett, and UGA prevailed in a win over the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The Georgia Bulldogs are finally national champions! The years of heartbreak are in the rearview mirror for Bulldog nation.

Kirby Smart, Stetson Bennett, Nakobe Dean, and Georgia prevailed in a 33-18 victory over Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Georgia ended a seven-game losing streak against Alabama in a back-and-forth national championship win.

A low-scoring first half featured stout red zone defense and an unfortunate injury to star Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams. Alabama held a 9-6 halftime lead over Georgia.

Georgia overcame penalties, settling for field goals, and poor first-half offensive line play with their physical play and several clutch performances in the second half. Zamir White scored Georgia’s first touchdown late in the third quarter after a 67-yard James Cook run, which came one play after Jalen Carter blocked a 48-yard Alabama field goal attempt.

The Dawgs slowed down Heisman winning quarterback Bryce Young throughout the game. Young averaged only 6.5 yards per attempt in Alabama’s loss. UGA disrupted Young and forced him into a pair of second-half interceptions.

The game could’ve changed to the all-too-familiar story against Alabama when Stetson Bennett fumbled the ball deep in Georgia territory early in the fourth quarter. Several plays later Alabama scored a touchdown to go up 18-13. Things looked bleak for Georgia.

On the next drive, Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett had to prove his championship resilience. Bennett walked on to Georgia, transferred to Jones College, and then transferred back to UGA and won a national title against college football’s best dynasty of all time. You know the story. It is the sort of thing that Hollywood makes movies about and members of the media never stop talking about.

Bennett, who was crying tears of joy following Kelee Ringo’s interception return for a touchdown, hit Jermaine Burton for an 18-yard pass after his fumble. After an Alabama penalty and a completion, the Crimson Tide sacked Bennett for one of their five sacks on the day. Facing second-and-18, Stetson Bennett connected with Adonai Mitchell on a 40-yard touchdown pass. Georgia never looked back.

The Bulldogs forced an Alabama three-and-out. Georgia’s offensive line dominated Alabama as the Dawgs drove the ball into the red zone behind a spirited rushing attack. Later, Stetson Bennett connected with Brock Bowers to score another touchdown. UGA helped a 26-18 lead.

The Dawgs needed to stop Bryce Young and Alabama to win a national championship. Young and the Crimson Tide drove the ball near midfield before he threw a third-down interception to UGA’s Kelee Ringo. Ringo returned the pick to the house to seal Georgia’s 33-18 national championship win.

Several things stand out for the Dawgs.

Kirby Smart and the coaching staff deserve a lot of credit for switching up his offensive line. Smart subbed in Broderick Jones midway through the second quarter. Jones played well against Will Anderson and helped the Bulldogs run the football. Anderson is the best pass rusher in college football and has the most sacks in the country.

Stetson Bennett withstood nearly three touchdown-less quarters, five sacks, and a devastating late turnover to throw a pair of touchdown passes while winning a championship.

Georgia’s defense held up strong in the red zone. The Bulldogs had one extra red zone opportunity in the half thanks to Kelee Ringo’s effort. Alabama tight end Cameron Latu beat Kelee Ringo on an out route and raced towards the end zone. Ringo didn’t give up. He chased down Latu and UGA held the Crimson Tide to a field goal.

Charles Barkley makes national championship game guarantee

NBA legend and analyst Charlest Barkley has made his national championship game pick to the dismay of Georgia fans across the country

TNT NBA analyst Charlest Barkley, a NBA legend and former Auburn basketball star, has made his national championship game pick. Barkley is not happy to see two of Auburn’s top rivals in national championship.

Georgia graduate Ernie Johnson works alongside Barkley on the NBA on TNT. Johnson, who is very familiar with Barkley’s dicey history of guarantees, does not want Barkley to pick Georgia to win the game.

NBC Sports reporter Maria Taylor and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards both made appeals for Barkley to pick Alabama.

Charles Barkley guaranteed his winner of the national championship:

Charles Barkley guarantees a Georgia win over Alabama in the national championship to the dismay of Ernie Johnson, Maria Taylor, Anthony Edwards, and Georgia fans across the country.

Barkley frequently picks NBA games as a part of his job, but he is notoriously inaccurate on his guarantee picks.

Richard Sherman makes national championship pick

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Richard Sherman is rolling with Alabama over Georgia in the national championship.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Richard Sherman is rolling with Alabama in the national championship. Sherman does not think the game will be close.

Sherman thinks Georgia and Alabama should have played again in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Sherman would have ranked Cincinnati over Georgia in the final CFP rankings due to the Bearcats’ undefeated season.

Sherman, who made the pick on his podcast, does not understand why Georgia is favored in the game (according to the Tipico Sportsbook, the Bulldogs are favored by 2.5 points). Sherman, an 11-season NFL veteran, predicts Alabama will win 35-17.

Sherman notably played with the Seattle Seahawks from 2011-2017. He has won one Super Bowl in his NFL career.

Fortunately, the national championship game still has to be played. Sherman knows a lot about football, but he does not follow college as closely as the NFL. Throughout the week, the media is expected to side with Alabama and why not?

Nick Saban and Alabama are the gold standard in this era of college football. Alabama has won seven straight games over UGA. Georgia should not be picked to defeat Alabama until it actually beats the Crimson Tide on the field.

The 2021 game has a different feel to it for the Georgia Bulldogs, but many UGA fans will not believe they’ll beat Alabama until they see it. Here’s a look at the series history between Georgia and Alabama:

Ole Miss RB gives Alabama bulletin board material

Apparently lessons haven’t been learned. Ole Miss RB Jerrion Ealy gave a bit of bulletin board material for Saban and Alabama!

All eyes will be on the Alabama Crimson Tide this week, as No. 12 Ole Miss will visit Tuscaloosa for the first time under head coach Lane Kiffin.

Coming with Kiffin to Tuscaloosa is a potent offense that can score on a dime, led by Heisman-hopeful quarterback Matt Corral, in his second season at the helm of the Ole Miss offense.

One of the lesser known, yet very talented and capable members of the Ole Miss offense, running back Jerrion Ealy, had some things to say that are bound to rile up some Tide players and supporters.

The media in Mississippi was given some time to catch up with Ealy earlier last week, and it’s a statement that I’m sure Nick Saban will bring up when preparing his team to take the field on Saturday.

I evaluate it like this. I don’t believe there is anyone that can beat us but ourselves. If we go out there and don’t beat ourselves, we’re in good shape.

Jerrion Ealy on playing Alabama

Of course, no self-respecting player would ever come out and say that they’re not capable of winning, but there’s got to be an easier way to talk about the game against the Tide without straight-out saying that the only team that can beat yours is itself. That’s proven time and time again to not be good business.

If I’m understanding correctly, Ealy is under the impression that Alabama isn’t capable of beating Ole Miss this Saturday. Suggesting that only Ole Miss can beat Ole Miss is a dangerous assumption to make about a team that never lets trash-talk go unpunished.

You can catch the game between No. 1 Alabama and No. 12 Ole Miss Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT on CBS.

USA TODAY ranks top college QBs. Where is Bryce Young?

USA Today Sports released a ranking of the best quarterbacks in the nation. Find out where he ranked here.

Another year, another elite signal-caller in the huddle for Alabama.

Lately, top quarterbacks there have become synonymous with the Crimson Tide. The position has certainly usurped top running backs and elite defensive units as being labeled the primary difference-maker for the team. You might as well take a step back, Oklahoma Sooners.

One could say that the change happened as Jalen Hurts began coming into his own as a shifty dual-threat quarterback. Others might assert that it began with Tua Tagovailoa’s infamous 2nd & 26 against Georgia in the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

In a string of elite quarterbacks, we have gone from Hurts, to Tagovailoa, to Mac Jones and now Young at the helm. The former three now have careers in the NFL with the Eagles, Dolphins, and Patriots, respectively. As things are looking now, Young is considered one of the top pro prospects in the 2023 draft.

In a weekly Top-10 ranking compiled by USA TODAY Sports, Young was ranked the No. 1 QB in the country for Week 3, just ahead of Ole Miss’ Matt Corral at No. 2 and Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder at No. 3.

Young has yet to throw an interception this year while tossing 10 touchdown passes and averaging 8.1 yards per throw. He has a total of 811 yards through the air, at an average of 270.3 yards per game. Young is completing passes at a rate of 68% on the year, displaying sound accuracy.

The nation will continue to watch as Young develops in awe and anger, alike, pontificating on the fact that Alabama has yet another top field general at the helm of the offense, wondering when their team might be so lucky.

Truth is, luck is not involved, unless a portrait of Nick Saban and his amazing recruiters appear in the dictionary next to the word. I just checked, it is not. Otherwise, it’s just great recruiting.

Alabama is set to play Southern Miss on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT on the SEC Network. Here’s more information on how you can watch, stream and listen to the game.
