‘We have to limit him,’ Bo Nix explains how Auburn will handle Jordan Davis

Jordan Davis is a monster of a human being.

Jordan Davis should not be able to move the way that he does.

Listed at 6’6″, 340 pounds, Davis has been making plays in opposing backfields all season for Georgia. He currently has10 tackles, three TFLs, 1.5 sacks, and four quarterback hurries over the span of five games.

Here is what Bo Nix had to say about defensive lineman Jordan Davis and how Auburn is going to prepare for him.

I’ve played guys like (Jordan Davis) before. I’ve never had a huge issue with it. I’ve just got to go out there and play my own game… At the end of the day, we have to do our best to block him. (Davis) is going to make his plays, and that’s why he’s going to be a great draft pick, so we just have to limit the amount of times he is making plays, we have to do our job and let him beat us, not us beat ourselves. We can’t let him or (any of Georgia’s players) have free shots at us and disrupting our plays. we jsut have to do a good job of playing clean.

As Nix mentioned, Auburn will need to be sound up front not just against Davis, but the entire defensive front for the Bulldogs.

Auburn’s offensive line is the most important key against Georgia

How will Auburn’s offensive line look on Saturday?

Georgia has dominated opponents in the trenches so far this season.

The Bulldogs have been able to impose their will both offensively and defensively at the line of scrimmage. It’s a major area of concern for Auburn, who does not have the most stable pass protection, as well as a lack of an elite pass rush, especially with one of their best pass rushers currently out with an injury (TD Moultry).

B-Wil of The War Rapport joined the Locked on Auburn Podcast with Zac Blackerby to talk about how the offensive line might have taken a small step backwards in the game against LSU.

B-Wil: Up until the LSU game, our offensive line had played qualitatively better than it had last season. The LSU game may have been an outlier for the o-line because we were calling plays that forced Nix to do things he hasn’t done so far this season. He was running around making plays instead of from the pocket. We still run block very well. I’m still not too down on our offensive line, but we saw a lot more pressure against LSU than we had in the previous weeks.

If Auburn is going to survive against Georgia this weekend, the offensive line will need to hold up for the occasional Bo Nix explosive play. Not for the entire game, because nobody can hold Georgia’s front forever, but for the occasional play to bring some momentum into offensive drives. The Bulldogs have been fantastic in both run stopping and pass defense this season. However, this may be the most hostile environment they play in all season. Auburn can’t afford to take sacks and stall out against a team that can overwhelm you at the line of scrimmage. The offensive line bringing their best game is key for Auburn’s success this Saturday.

Former Auburn tight end coming to Auburn vs Georgia

Welcome back!

A familiar face is returning to the Plains this weekend.

Former Auburn tight end Salvatore Cannella is coming back to Auburn to watch his former team take on the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs, per his Twitter page.

Cannella caught 25 passes for 330 yards and five touchdowns over the course of his three-year career with the Tigers. Cannella launched his own streetwear clothing collection, ‘NNella,’ back in 2019. He signed former Auburn-turned UCF receiver Nate Craig-Meyers to a NIL deal to support the brand earlier this year.

No. 18 Auburn takes on No. 2 Georgia this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on CBS. It is the 125th installment of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.

Auburn vs Georgia: Grading the Bulldogs

Here’s how we graded Georgia.

Georgia has been… dominant, to say the least so far this season.

The Bulldogs are outscoring their opponents 205-23 through five games. They already have two shutout wins, one over the current No. 13 team in the nation (Arkansas). Georgia hasn’t needed great quarterback play. They haven’t really needed offense yet this season. The defense has been stellar, and it could propel them to the SEC championship game.

Auburn may be the only team that truly stands in the way.

The Tigers have had their ups and downs, but couple Bo Nix overcoming his road demons against LSU this past Saturday with the fact that the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry is being played inside Jordan-Hare stadium, and we could find ourselves watching a competitive game.

Here’s what the Georgia Bulldogs look like at each position.

Five losers in Auburn’s win over LSU

Don’t freak out.

No, Auburn didn’t lose. No individual effort from a player lost, either. I’m not that low.

However, a lot of things and people lost outside of Auburn following the conclusion of this game. Including ESPN College Gameday pickers, who all chose LSU to win. Please, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, never pick Auburn to win another game ever again.

Auburn has things that they need to work on, sure. Pass blocking is one. Bo Nix can’t evade pressure forever, and he won’t do it against Georgia. The passing game needs to continue to evolve. Defensively, Auburn needs to start making adjustments before the second half starts. Good for Auburn making some major changes and winning the second half against LSU, but if those changes could potentially come earlier this weekend, it could be clutch for the Tigers. Overall however, Auburn did what they needed to do to win.

With that being said, here are five “losers” from Auburn’s win over LSU.

Kickoff time for Auburn vs Georgia undecided

We’re going to have to wait until next Sunday to figure out what time Auburn and Georgia will face off.

We’re going to have to wait to see what this weekend’s results yield to figure out when Auburn and Georgia will be playing on October 9th.

The SEC announced via social media on Monday that kickoff between Auburn and Georgia would either be in the 11 a.m. timeslot on ESPN or in the 2:30 p.m. timeslot on CBS. This will likely hinge on Auburn’s performance against LSU on Saturday in Death Valley. Should Auburn win, they would be 4-1 heading into the Georgia game.

The Bulldogs currently look like the best team in America and have shown no signs of slowing down. Georgia faces No. 8 Arkansas at home this Saturday.

Auburn and Georgia meet up in a top-10 battle in Athens on Saturday.

Auburn and Georgia face off in two days in the game of the week as both teams are ranked in the top ten.

The Tigers haven’t won in Sanford Stadium since 2005 as it has been a nightmare between the hedges for the visiting team. Georgia came into Jordan-Hare Stadium last season and held on for a 21-14 victory.

According to BetMGM Sportsbook, Gus Malzahn’s side is currently a seven-point underdog to the Bulldogs.

Auburn is coming off a 29-13 victory over Kentucky in the season opener. Seth Williams caught two touchdowns and Bo Nix threw for 233 yards and three scores.

Georgia eventually pulled away from Arkansas in its opener but struggled offensively, especially in the first half as they trailed 7-5 to the underdog Razorbacks.

CBS Sports writer picks Auburn to upset Georgia

The Tigers and Bulldogs face off in a top-10 matchup on Saturday in Sanford Stadium.

The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry is going to be a little weird with it being played in October instead of late in the season but the stakes are still high as No. 7 Auburn visits No. 4 Georgia in Athens on Saturday.

CBS Sports’ Barrett Sallee thinks an upset is brewing in Sanford Stadium.

No. 7 Auburn at No. 4 Georgia (-6.5): The wrong team is favored here. I don’t buy that JT Daniels is 100% following his knee injury last season or that he has the same ceiling as he did prior to it. Whether it’s Daniels or Stetson Bennett IV, Auburn’s defense won’t be threatened by an offense that struggled to find its sea legs. Auburn has its work cut out for it on offense, though. Quarterback Bo Nix looked better after some halftime adjustments last week, and there’s no doubt that coach Gus Malzahn and offensive coordinator Chad Morris held back much of the offense against Kentucky. Take those points, but you won’t need them. Auburn will win this game outright. Pick: Auburn (+6.5)

We tend to agree with Sallee here. While the arrival of Daniels will most likely give Georgia a better option at quarterback, the Tigers are coming off an impressive performance against Kentucky.

Who will Auburn face from Georgia at the quarterback position?

Georgia is keeping tight on whether J.T. Daniels will be the starter at quarterback for the Dawgs as Auburn battles them in Athens Saturday.

[jwplayer tDekBTFB]

If you are an Auburn fan, you just knew that somehow J.T. Daniels would immediately be cleared for this week’s top-10 matchup for Georgia. That was no question. But is he going to be the one the Tigers see when they take the field on defense on Saturday in Athens?

All signs point to yes but there is still a chance that Stetson Bennett, who replaced D’Wan Mathis in the opener against Arkansas and put up 211 yards and two touchdowns, could be the guy.

Bennett seemed to settle into the position as the game went along against the Razorbacks but Daniels is the guy that the Bulldogs have been waiting on to see on the field. The transfer from USC and former No. 2 overall quarterback in the 2018 signing class showed signs of what he is capable of as a freshman for the Trojans in 2018, throwing for 2,672 yards and 14 touchdowns but still put up 10 interceptions.

He was supposed to have a breakout season last year for Clay Helton’s team but that immediately took a wrong turn as he was injured in the season opener against Fresno State.

Bennett is more of a game-manager type quarterback while Daniels can be a star at the position. He’s not exactly Matt Stafford or Aaron Murray, two quarterbacks that Georgia has thrown at the Tigers in recent history, but the capability is there. You just have to wonder about the rust that has built up after not playing in a game for more than a year.

Luckily, Auburn has one of the top defensive coordinators in the country in Kevin Steele on staff and he will have his players ready for whatever Kirby Smart decides to do with the quarterback situation. Whether it is Daniels or Bennett, the Tigers will be ready.
