Michigan State basketball falls out of latest AP Top 25 poll

Michigan State received only 34 votes in this week’s poll, which makes them No. 33 in these rankings.

 

The Spartans are in a rare spot right now — sitting outside the Top 25.

Michigan State basketball dropped out of the Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll on Monday. It is only the third week since the start of the 2017-18 season that Michigan State is unranked, according to Kyle Austin of MLive.

Michigan State went 1-1 last week, with Friday’s disappointing home loss to Purdue leading the way to the Spartans falling out of the rankings. Michigan State received only 34 votes in this week’s poll, which makes them No. 33 in these rankings.

Michigan State returns to action this week on Thursday at No. 5 Iowa. Game time is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET and can be seen on FS1.

There was no movement for Michigan State basketball in the latest Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll released on Monday, with the Spartans staying at No. 4 in the rankings.

The Spartans won their only game last week against Oakland, 109-91. MSU was scheduled to play Virginia as part of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday, but that game was forced to be canceled after the Cavaliers had a positive COVID-19 test.

Gonzaga (No. 1), Baylor (No. 2) and Iowa (No. 3) all remained the same as well in the poll.

There were a total of seven Big Ten teams in this week’s rankings, with Michigan moving up to No. 25 in the latest poll.

Michigan State basketball is back inside the top five of the AP Top 25 rankings.

The Spartans moved up to No. 4 in the latest rankings that were released on Monday. MSU finds themselves only behind Gonzaga (No. 1), Baylor (No. 2) and Iowa (No. 3) in this week’s rankings.

The Spartans rise up the rankings was expected after MSU won all three games last week — including a road victory over then-No. 6 Duke.

Here is a breakdown of the Big Ten teams in this week’s rankings:

  • No. 3 – Iowa
  • No. 4 – Michigan State
  • No. 6 – Illinois
  • No. 13 – Wisconsin
  • No. 21 – Rutgers
  • No. 22 – Ohio State

The Spartans return to the court on Wednesday against No. 18 Virginia. This road match-up is part of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, and will tip-off at 9:15 p.m. ET.
