Women’s basketball national scoring leaders as of Dec. 31 (and steals)

Check out where Notre Dame’s freshman phenom ranks.

[autotag]Hannah Hidalgo[/autotag] clearly is Notre Dame’s best player as we enter 2024. There’s no other way to put it given that she leads the country in steals and is one of its top scorers. One only can imagine what she’ll do over the next couple of months. For now, here’s how she ranks among the top scorers in the country along with their steals figures:

See where Hannah Hidalgo ranks.

Notre Dame got an early Christmas present this year in freshman phenom [autotag]Hannah Hidalgo[/autotag]. She not only is the national steals leader, but she’s among the top scorers in the country. At this point, one only can imagine what her Irish legacy will be by the time she’s through in South Bend. In the meantime, here’s how she ranks among those scoring leaders and how their steals averages compare with hers:

Northern Illinois’ kicker pulled off a 32-yard touchdown run on a perfect trick play in the Camellia Bowl

Arkansas State wasn’t ready for MACtion

There are few more chaotic forces in the universe than MACtion and college football bowl season.

So when you tune in to watch a postseason game featuring a team from the Mid-American Conference, you should be ready for some trickery at any given moment.

Unfortunately for Arkansas State, the Red Wolves were not prepared on Saturday in the Camellia Bowl against Northern Illinois.

The Huskies came out in field goal formation at the Arkansas State 32-yard line in the first half only for holder Tom Foley — team’s punter — to toss a shovel pass to kicker Kanon Woodill, who bolted up the field untouched for the touchdown.

It’s was a weird day for the kicker as NIU won, 21-19.

Woodill accounted for more touchdowns than he has field goals after missing from 36 yards and 23 yards later in the game.

That probably doesn’t matter as much when he’s pulling off house calls from outside the red zone. Just chalk it up to the unpredictability of bowl season — and MACtion, of course.

A certain Notre Dame player continues to impress.

[autotag]Hannah Hidalgo[/autotag] continues to shine for a Notre Dame that has won eight straight after dropping its season opener. There’s little reason to think she’ll stop anytime soon. Not only is she one of the top scorers in the country, but she still is the top leader in steals. Here’s how she ranks among scoring leaders and also their steals averages:

Hannah Hidalgo is a special player.

[autotag]Hannah Hidalgo[/autotag] continues to be a phenomenal player for Notre Dame. She still is one of the top scorers in the country and leads everybody in steals. Let’s take a look at how she relates to those scorers. As a bonus, we’ve included how each leading scorer is at taking the ball away:

One Arkansas team that played Friday night managed to emerge victorious, and it was on the road.

The Razorback women stayed unbeaten with an 82-67 victory over Arkansas State.

They held the Red Wolves scoreless over the final 5:22 of the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.

Taliah Scott continues to impress as a freshman, as she scored a career-high 34 points to lead all scorers.

Arkansas struggled from behind the 3-point line, connecting on only 10 of 36 treys, but made all 12 of its free throws and outrebounded the hosts 40-32.

Defensively, the Razorbacks limited A-State to just 22 percent shooting from behind the arc and 36 percent shooting total from the field.

Mike Neighbors’ crew will be back in action to finish the final leg of a three-game in-state homestand against Central Arkansas at 7 p.m. in Bud Walton Arena.

Wisconsin broke a Kohl Center record last night during win vs Arkansas State

Wisconsin broke a Kohl Center record last night during win vs Arkansas State

Wisconsin basketball began its season with a bang last night, as it defeated Arkansas State 105-76.

Chucky Hepburn led the way with 20 points, six assists and three steals, transfer guard A.J. Storr added 15 points of his own, Max Klesmit had 14 points and true freshman John Blackwell came off the bench to tally 12 points and four rebounds.

It was an all-around effort for Greg Gard’s team. It also showed the team’s depth, as 12 players found the stat sheet and 10 of them played 12 minutes or more.

The massive win was also notable because it was the 12th-highest-scoring performance in Wisconsin basketball history.

The Badgers’ 105 points are also the most in Kohl Center history (since 1998).

The Badgers are back in action with a huge game against No. 9 Tennessee on Friday.

Alabama basketball set to host former assistant coach and Arkansas State

Alabama basketball hosting former assistant in non-conference game this year

As part of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s non-conference basketball schedule this season they will take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves in Tuscaloosa on Dec. 4. The reason that this game should drum up some interest with Tide fans is that former assistant Bryan Hodgson is now the head man of the Arkansas State program.

Nate Oats and the Alabama program lost all three assistants from last season’s record-setting team, one of which was Hodges. He was a massive part of Oats’s operation as he was a key recruiter, and his loss has certainly hurt this offseason. Hodgson is taking over a 13-20 program from a season ago and has his work cut out for him.

Hodgson left Alabama and Oats on a great note with nothing but good things to say, and he doubled down on X saying,

“One of the many things I’ve taken with me from Nate Oats is his scheduling philosophy! Challenge yourself in the non-conference. Not much to gain from collecting wins at home against “lesser” opponents. We look forward to the challenges ahead, and we put together what we think will be the toughest schedule in Mid-Major basketball!! #Wolvesup #GTTL”

I speak for all of Alabama nation when I say I hope he and Arkansas State have a phenomenal 2023-24 campaign outside of the game on Dec. 4.
