Alabama jumps two spots in latest college football AP Poll

Where is Alabama in the latest AP Poll?

The Alabama Crimson Tide were on the move in the latest update of the AP Poll Top 25 on Sunday afternoon once again, jumping two spots from No. 9 up to No. 7.

This also coincides with a rise for Alabama in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll on Sunday afternoon where the Crimson Tide also jumped two spots from No. 9 to No. 7.

Having already owned a 4-2 record in SEC play, Alabama advanced to 8-2 overall Saturday with a dominant 52-7 win at home over the Mercer Bears. This extended Alabama’s current winning streak to three consecutive games, with the Crimson Tide outscoring their opponents a combined 128-20.

The Crimson Tide are also the second-highest ranked SEC team in the latest AP Poll, trailing only the No. 3 ranked Texas Longhorns. Texas sits behind only the Oregon Ducks and Ohio State Buckeyes, which are at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.

Now sitting at No. 7 in both the AP and Coaches Polls, what will Alabama’s ranking be Tuesday night in the latest CFP rankings?

Big Ten teams dominate the top ten in latest rankings

The Big Ten is well represented at the top of three major rankings ahead of week 12

The Big Ten is on top of the college football world after 11 weeks of action in the 2024 season. The conference has four teams within the top six of all three major rankings. Starting with the most prominent ranking of this part of the season, the College Football Playoff rankings.

The Big Ten has four of the top five ranked teams in the country, with the Oregon Ducks, the Ohio State Buckeyes, com, and the Indiana Hoosiers ranked No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5, respectively. The only program breaking up the Big Ten party within the top five is the SEC’s Texas Longhorns at No. 2.

Notably, no other Big Ten teams outside of those four are ranked within the College Football Playoff rankings. In the US LBM Coaches Poll, Oregon and Ohio State are ranked as the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country, while Texas and the Tennessee Volunteers separate the Ducks and Buckeyes from Penn State and Indiana at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

The AP Poll mirrors the College Football Playoff rankings in terms of the top five, with Oregon at No. 1, Ohio State at No. 2, Penn State at No. 4, and Indiana at No. 5.

Duke women’s basketball tumbles to 16th in the AP Poll after weekend loss

The Duke Blue Devils dropped five spots to 16th in the AP Top 25 Women’s College Basketball Poll after Sunday’s loss to Maryland.

The Duke Blue Devils lost a ranked road battle against the Maryland Terrapins on Sunday, and as a result, they slipped down five spots to 16th in the newest AP Poll.

After entering the season as the third-ranked team in the ACC preseason poll, the Blue Devils beat Radford and Liberty to get off to a 2-0 start. Freshman forward Toby Fournier has scored at least 10 points in every game, culminating in a 15-point effort against the Terrapins, and she’s one of three Duke players averaging at least 12.0 per game (Ashlon Jackson and Reigan Richardson are the other two).

Maryland shot all the way up to 11th with the victory, and the North Carolina Tar Heels now sit above the Blue Devils in 14th. UNC opened its season with wins over Charleston Southern and UNC Wilmington, but the No. 2 Connecticut Huskies await them on Friday.

The Cameron Crazies welcome the Blue Devils back to Durham for a Thursday home game against Dayton.

Wisconsin basketball ‘receiving votes’ in first AP Poll update

Wisconsin basketball ‘receiving votes’ in first AP Poll update

Wisconsin basketball received six votes in the latest AP Top 25 men’s college basketball poll on Monday.

Despite amassing a 3-0 start to the 2024-25 season, Wisconsin didn’t experience much of a shift from its position in the AP Top 25 poll from Oct. 14. In that iteration of the hierarchy, Greg Gard’s program pocketed five votes ahead of the season.

Since then, Wisconsin has vanquished all of its early-season opponents by an average of 22.3 points per triumph. In his first season as a Badger, transfer wing John Tonje has spearheaded the offensive attack with 17.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

Senior guard Max Klesmit has followed with 16 points per game, and John Blackwell, Steven Crowl and Nolan Winter have chipped in with at least 10 points per contest as well.

As a team, Wisconsin is shooting a blistering 92.5% from the charity stripe and 37% from beyond the arc. Even though their adversaries aren’t anywhere near the AP’s top 25, Wisconsin has done exactly what its needed to do thus far.

In UW’s most recent win over Appalachian State, the Badgers orchestrated a 23-0 scoring spurt and saw five players score at least 10 points in the effort.

Wisconsin was also rated No. 40 in the latest KenPom ranking and No. 29 in ESPN’s latest BPI. The three wins have elevated them at least nine spots in both lists.

The Badgers return to the hardwood for a marquee matchup against No. 9 Arizona on Friday. A win against the touted Wildcats could catapult UW into the top 25 bubble.

MSU will be heavily favored in their next three games before they face their first big test of the season on November 26 against Cal.

Duke basketball rises one spot to sixth in updated AP Poll with Kentucky on the horizon

The Duke Blue Devils moved up one spot in Monday’s AP Poll after starting the 2024-25 season with two straight wins.

The Duke Blue Devils started their 2024-25 men’s basketball season on the right foot, beating Maine by 34 points and the Army Black Knights by 42, and the Associated Press rewarded them slightly in Monday’s updated rankings.

Duke shuffled up one spot to sixth, the same spot the Blue Devils earned in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Head coach Jon Scheyer and his team will have plenty of chances to prove themselves over the next month with four top-20 opponents in the non-conference schedule. Duke’s next opponent, the Kentucky Wildcats, moved up four spots to 19th, and the Arizona Wildcats (No. 9), Kansas Jayhawks (No. 1), and Auburn Tigers (No. 5) all appear on the slate before December 4th.

The North Carolina Tar Heels, who lost to the Jayhawks on the road last week, slipped down one spot to 10th. No other ACC teams broke into the top 25, but the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, Miami Hurricanes, and Clemson Tigers all received at least 10 votes.

Where is Alabama ranked in latest college basketball AP Poll?

Alabama is off to a 2-0 start to the season.

After carrying a preseason ranking of No. 2 nationally, the Alabama Crimson Tide remained in that spot Monday afternoon in the latest college basketball AP Poll Top 25.

The Crimson Tide once again trailed only the Kansas Jayhawks for the No. 1 spot, while the remainder of the top five was the UConn Huskies at No. 3, Gonzaga Bulldogs at No. 4, and Auburn Tigers at No. 5.

So far this season, Alabama currently sits undefeated at 2-0 overall with a pair of victories at home over UNC Asheville and Arkansas State. Alabama is however set for arguably their toughest test yet later tonight at home when the McNeese Cowboys come to Tuscaloosa.

After the Cowboys, Alabama’s schedule gets significantly tougher with multiple Top 25 matchups to close out the month of November. This includes a trip to No. 13 Purdue, as well as taking on No. 8 Houston and No. 24 Rutgers.

Before they get there however, the Crimson Tide can certainly not overlook their matchup with McNeese on Monday night.

Gators hoops bumped up a spot in AP Poll after perfect opening week

The Gators are among to top 20 teams in the AP Poll after the opening week of men’s college hoops.

Todd Golden and the Florida Gators are off to a strong start to the 2024-25 college basketball campaign, earning wins over the South Florida Bulls and Jacksonville Dolphins, respectively, in the opening week.

While there is still a long way to go during the regular season, those two victories already represent a better opening salvo for the hoops program after going 1-1 last fall en route to a rough November. Fortunately, the Orange and Blue found another gear in the second half, propelling it to the semifinal round of the SEC Tournament.

As a result of their efforts, the Gators saw a one-spot improvement from the preseason standings in the Associated Press Poll following Week 1, moving up to No. 20. That puts Florida between the No. 19 Kentucky Wildcats and No. 21 Ohio State Buckeyes.

Eight SEC teams ranked inside AP Top 25 after Week 10 action

Oregon might be on top of the AP Top 25, but the SEC remains king with half the conference ranked after 10 weeks of play.

Only three teams stayed put in the AP Top 25 after Week 10 of the 2024 college football season, but eight SEC programs remain ranked as the regular season begins to wind down.

Oregon and Georgia remain in the top two spots with wins over Michigan and Florida, respectively. The Gators had the Bulldogs on the ropes in the first half, but an injury to true freshman quarterback [autotag]DJ Lagway[/autotag] spoiled the upset bid.

Texas moved up a spot in the rankings to No. 5 while on bye, and Tennessee held at No. 7 with a 10-point win over Kentucky. Because of several losses in the top 15, Alabama moved up three spots to No. 11 while on bye, and the trio of LSU, Texas A&M and Ole Miss own the Nos. 14-16 spots.

Vanderbilt is the surprise team from the conference in this week’s rankings. The Commodores are bowl-eligible for the first time since 2018 and still have three more games to play.

Clemson drops out of the Top 10 in latest AP Poll following Tigers’ bye week

Clemson falls in the AP Poll after their bye week.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football team had a bye week in Week 9 and it seems the AP Poll is punishing the Tigers for taking a week off.

After the week off, Clemson fell two spots from No. 9 to No. 11. Falling out of the Top 10, the Tigers were jumped by No. 8 Notre Dame after their win over Navy, No. 9 BYU after their win over UCF and No. 10 Texas A&M after their big win over LSU. Notre Dam and A&M both picked up some impressive wins, but Clemson also entered the bye week as one of the hottest teams in the country. It’s an interesting drop for the Tigers.

The Miami Hurricanes remain the highest ranked ACC team, landing at No. 5. It’s the first time they’ve entered the Top 5 since 2017. The ACC has four teams ranked, with Pittsburgh No. 18 and SMU No.20.

Clemson will host the Louisville Cardinals next Saturday in Death Valley at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ESPN.
