“It’s the faith they got in me,” Adebayo said when asked what it means for the Heat to keep him off limits in offseason trade discussions up to this point. “I feel like they know what they have. You get a guy who’s hard-nosed, who’s going to get it out the mud, who’s not going to quit on his teammates. It’s just mutual respect. I feel like a lot of teams want me, but it’s just a respect thing. Also, it’s Pat [Riley] believing in me, it’s Micky [Arison] believing in me, it’s Andy [Elisburg] believing in me that we can make that next step to bring this city another championship.”

Hearing about the level of latitude James Harden says he granted the Sixers in his contract negotiations reminded me of a little-known tale stemming from Miami’s attempts to convince LeBron James to stay on South Beach in the 2014 offseason before James decided to go home to Cleveland for a second stint with the Cavaliers. That summer, Miami’s Pat Riley and noted Heat front-office strategist Andy Elisburg hosted James’ agent Rich Paul and longtime NBA agent and attorney Mark Termini, then the lead negotiator for Klutch Sports, for a meeting to discuss what the Heat could do roster-wise depending on various contract constructions … and to see if there was any way James’ representatives would agree to something less than a maximum deal to afford the Heat more financial flexibility for roster building.

Great interest today in Las Vegas to see if Indiana indeed moves forward with its widely anticipated offer sheet for Suns RFA Deandre Ayton.
Ayton’s future is a prime curiosity at summer league beyond Brooklyn’s handling of Kevin Durant’s trade request.

If it really just winds up being Deandre Ayton for Myles Turner in a straight up sign-and-trade, with no draft compensation, that’s an obvious net loss. At least you’d be getting a starting C ahead of a potential move for Kevin Durant, but man, that’d be underwhelming for DA – 12:00 PM

As you can tell by our expressions: It’s all business w/ @Brian Lewis from Vegas on who #Nets brass are talking to about moving #Durant & how SOON it could happen. More on this storyline

Deandre Ayton is easily the best free agent still available. His market has been slowed due to his status as a restricted free agent and the Phoenix Suns possible pursuit of Kevin Durant. Now, it seems like Ayton is finally getting some movement on his next contract. While speaking on ESPN’s Get Up, Brian Windhorst said that the Indiana Pacers could sign Ayton as soon as Monday to an offer sheet. Windhorst also said a sign-and-trade is possible to send Ayton to Indiana. -via RealGM / July 11, 2022

It was Heat president Pat Riley, same as he ever was, lording from on high in what was his first in-person Heat game of this postseason. “Appreciate you!” Butler said as he saluted to the mask-wearing Riley and pointed in his direction. “You’re making my dreams…” Riley fired back before heading out with Heat general manager Andy Elisburg. It takes a lot to impress Riley, who has coached dynasties and built Super Teams and generally doesn’t bother with anything less than absolute excellence.

Pat Riley has joined the Miami Heat at …

Pat Riley has joined the Miami Heat at Disney World, but will be observing their playoff games from a distance. Arriving as part of the NBA’s second tier of guests, those not in the league’s bubble quarantine, Riley will take in the games at the Wide World of Sports complex from a distance, not allowed direct contract with players, coaches or those in the league’s highest tier of quarantine access. Heat General Manager Andy Elisburg also is with Riley in Central Florida, with the two with separate accommodations than the team’s at Disney World.

With millions of people watching on television, the last thing any GM wants to see is the players’ message muddled by a staff member’s blocking mistake. But avoiding any sort of optics mishap — like, say, someone walking in front of a camera at a powerful moment out of sheer confusion — requires clear communication with staff about how this should go. Sources say Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka and Orlando president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman were vocal on the call, as was Miami senior vice president of basketball operations Andy Elisburg. Weltman and Pelinka, in particular, expressed a desire to be on the court with their teams.

And according to Vincent’s agent, Bill Neff, the reason was simple: “We picked Miami because they are the best at it,” Neff said of player development. “They’re the gold standard. I don’t see how you can turn down Miami considering the pipeline, the amount of attention — starting at the top with Pat Riley, [general manager] Andy Elisburg, and most of all [vice president/basketball operations] Adam Simon — that they have shown with this kind of player. All things being equal, I pick Miami, because they will be the best at it, them and Toronto. “When Miami shows interest, you listen and they were the first one to show interest. It gets your attention. Great system. They train their coaches. I had Briante Weber there. If I could pick any place for a G-League guy to go, it would be Miami.”

Nunn, a shooting guard, and Robinson, a …

Nunn, a shooting guard, and Robinson, a forward, are starters and big parts of the Heat’s 3-point shooting machine that ranks second in the NBA in percentage. Nunn was tracked by Heat assistant general manager Adam Simon in the G League last season after he showed promise with the Santa Cruz Warriors. Simon pestered general manager Andy Elisburg and president Pat Riley incessantly to sign Nunn before another team did. With a series of roster moves, Miami cleared a spot and signed Nunn on the final day of the season.
