The Razorbacks also lost All-SEC performer [autotag]Amber Ramirez[/autotag] to exhausted eligibility and sophomore starter [autotag]Sasha Goforth[/autotag], who retired because of a medical condition.

Carr started her collegiate career in her hometown of Manhattan, Kansas, where she played three years for Kansas State. Arkansas coach Mike Neighbors’ wife, Jayci Stone, was an assistant at K-State when Carr was a freshman.

Arkansas simply has Missouri’s number.

The eighth-seeded Razorbacks dispatched No. 9-seed Missouri in the second round of the SEC Tournament on Thursday afternoon, 61-52, in overtime.

The win is Arkansas’ third of the year over Mizzou and pushes the Hogs forward to the third round where they’ll play the top-ranked team in the nation, South Carolina, Friday at noon.

Arkansas closed overtime on a 13-2 run and held Missouri to 1-of-8 shooting during the stretch. Makayla Daniels, Arkansas’ second leading scorer on the season, had 13 points on 3-of-17 shooting from the floor. From the line, however, she made 6 of her 8 attempts, all of them in overtime. She also had 14 rebounds.

Missouri sent the game to overtime when Haley Troup made a lay-up with 20 seconds left. Amber Ramirez, who led Arkansas with 17 points, had a final opportunity at the rim at the other end, but it missed and the game went to overtime.

Arkansas played South Carolina once earlier in the regular season. The Gamecocks left Bud Walton Arena with a 61-52 win back in mid-January.

Razorbacks clinch No. 8-seed for SEC Tournament after beating Mississippi State

Arkansas will get Mizzou in the first round on Thursday. The Hogs took both games from the Tigers this year.

Arkansas clinched the No. 8-seed for the SEC Tournament on Sunday by beating Mississippi State, 87-79, in Starkville.

The Razorbacks snapped a four-game losing streak with the victory and finished the regular season with a record of 17-12 and 7-9 in SEC play. The record in league play was the same as Missouri, which Arkansas will play in the first round of the SEC Tournament on Thursday. The Hogs beat Missouri twice in the regular season.

Sunday’s win over Mississippi State was important in keeping the Razorbacks in the NCAA Tournament. ESPN’s Charlie Creme has Arkansas as a No. 10-seed for the Dance even before the SEC Tournament starts. A fifth straight loss may have sent them further down.

But Sasha Goforth’s 20 points led five Arkansas players in double figures. She shot 8 of 13 from the floor and blocked three shots, as well.

The key were turnovers. Arkansas committed just five, but scored 15 points off Mississippi State’s 12 turnovers.

Amber Ramirez had four steals and 15 points as Arkansas’ No. 2 scorer. Anastasia Hayes led Mississippi State with 20 points.

Arkansas drops third straight, falls to Ole Miss on the road

Arkansas tied its longest losing streak of the season after falling at Ole Miss on Tuesday night.

Arkansas picked a bad time to tie its longest streak of the season.

The Razorbacks fell Tuesday night at Ole Miss, 70-62, for their third straight loss. It dropped the Hogs to 6-8 in SEC play and into a four-way tie for seventh in league standings. They have two games to play in the regular season.

Arkansas couldn’t overcome a slow start that saw the Rebels jump out to a 22-15 lead after the first quarter. Samara Spencer, Sasha Goforth and Amber Ramirez all scored in double figure for the Razorbacks, led by Spencer’s 19.

But the bigger Rebels scored 16 second-chance points to Arkansas’ four, providing a bulk of the difference in the game. Shakira Austin, Ole Miss’ 6-foot-5 center, had 11 points and 16 rebounds. Madison Scott added 12 points and nine rebounds.

Arkansas is back on the court at Bud Walton Arena for the final time on Thursday against Georgia. The Bulldogs, 7-7 in SEC play, are one game in front of the Hogs, Missouri, Mississippi State and Kentucky in the league standings.

Aransas’ NCAA Tournament hopes take a hit on Senior Day

Arkansas dropped a second straight game as Amber Ramirez scored 18 on Senior Day.

Amber Ramirez was Arkansas’ best player on a day she was honored pre-game during Senior Day, but her 18 points weren’t enough as the Razorbacks dropped a second game in a row, falling to Kentucky, 78-55.

The loss dropped Arkansas (16-10, 6-7) below .500 in the SEC with three games remaining. The Hogs are tied for seventh in the league with Mississippi State, a team they close the season with in Starkville.

Kentucky has won four straight games to move just a game back of the Razorbacks and Bulldogs. And the Wildcats dominated from the jump, leading by nine points after the first quarter. Rhyne Howard entered the game as the SEC’s leading scorer, averaging 19.6 points per game. She beat that average by 10, dropping 29 on 9 of 16 shooting, including five 3-pointers.

Ramirez, Arkansas’ lone senior, went 4 from 9 from deep, but she was the only Razorbacks player in double figures. Makayla Daniels, who missed the last four games with injury, had seven points in her return.

Arkansas plays at Ole Miss on Tuesday, home against Georgia on Thursday and closes the season at Mississippi State on Sunday.

Arkansas back in the groove, blasts Missouri after late run

Arkansas outscored Missouri by 24 in the second half on the way to the win.

With a tight race in the middle of the SEC, Arkansas basketball needed a win Sunday to stronger heading into the last couple weeks of the regular season.

Done and done.

The Razorbacks outscored Missouri by 24 points in the second half en route to an 88-71 win over the Tigers in Columbia. The victory is Arkansas’ second straight after a two-game skid.

Amber Ramirez led the Hogs with 25 points on 8 of 15 shooting and 4 of 8 from 3-point range. Samara Spencer added 22, Sasha Goforth 18 and Jersey Wolfenbarger 12 in the win.

The win also helped give the Razorbacks some breathing room in the push for the NCAA Tournament as it lifted Arkansas to 16-8 and 6-5 in league play. Missouri fell to 16-9 and 5-7. Entering the game, Arkansas was a projected 8-seed in the Dance and Missouri a projected 9-seed.

The Hogs trailed by seven at the half, but outscored the Tigers 26-13 in the third quarter to take control. Their work on the glass was key, as they outrebounded Missouri by 12 and outscored the Tigers in the paint by 10. Wolfenbarger registered a double-double by grabbing 10 boards.

Arkansas continues on the road Thursday when it visits Gainesville for a matchup with Florida. The Gators are two games ahead of Arkansas in the standings.

The LSU women’s basketball team defense struggles in 90-76 loss to Arkansas. The Razorbacks used strong second and third quarters to put the Tigers away.

Alex Morris led the Tigers with 22 points on 9-18 shooting from the field. LSU’s leading scorer Khayla Point struggled with 13 points on 4-12 shooting from the field. Autumn Newby added 15 points and nine rebounds.

Amber Ramirez led the Razorbacks with 25 points and hit five three-point shots. Makayla Daniels and Samara Spencer both had 20 points apiece. However, the Tigers could not stop the big three from Arkansas.

LSU usually is an excellent defensive team, but not against Arkansas. The Razorbacks scored 90 points and shot 50% from the field. They also shot 52% from the three-point line. Arkansas did a good job moving the basketball, and they had 19 team assist in the game.

The Tigers won the rebounding 39-29, but it did not matter; the Razorbacks shot too well from the field. LSU did not play badly offensively, but their defense let them down.

LSU will return home to play the Kentucky Wildcats on Sunday. The Tigers must play better defense and get more from Pointer to beat a struggling Kentucky team.
