Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide Mens Basketball team dropped their third game of the season (2-3) against the North Carolina Tar Heels (5-0) in ‘Battle 4 Atlantis.’

The final score of the contest was much closer than many had anticipated (76-67).

Alabama stays strong in the first half, entering halftime only down by six points.

The Tide wasn’t able to overcome the deficit in the second half and lost by nine, which should still be a moral victory for the program seeing that the Tar Heels entered this matchup as the sixth best team in the nation.

Offensively, Alabama just didn’t appear to be all there.

The team shot for a combined 38 percent on field goals, 35 percent for threes and a miserable 44 percent from the line.

The only two valuable offensive pieces tonight were John Petty and Kira Lewis Jr., both of whom were the only players that played over 35 minutes.

Petty led the team with 23 points, while Lewis was right behind him with 20.

The Alabama defense wasn’t terrible as they had six steals, four blocks and 14 turnovers.

The 2019 – 2020 college basketball season is still young, and while the Crimson Tide are currently under .500 on the year, it’s not time to panic yet.

Nate Oats is set to lead his team into the next round of the ‘Battle 4 Atlantis’ against the Iowa State Cyclones, who lost in round one against Michigan.

Collin Sexton takes another step towards NBA stardom

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Miami Heat with a final score of 100-124 to have a record of 4-10 to start the season.

While their record may not be all that great, one player is continuing to grow into what may be the next young star.

Former Alabama guard Collin Sexton has been putting up solid numbers in the wins and the losses.

In the loss against Miami, Sexton had 19 points and two rebounds.

So far in the 14 games played in the 2019 – 2020 season, Sexton averages 18 points per game, two assists, three rebounds and a field goal percentage of just over 44 percent.

While his name may be hidden due to the Cavaliers’ poor performances or drowned out because of the many young stars all over the league, his talent has not gone unrecognized within the organization.

Cavaliers head coach John Beilein claims that Sexton is developing into something special.

“He’s learning how to play. He’s 20 years old. He’s playing against some really good players every single day. We’re hoping that he grows daily to just be a really good backcourt player,” says Beilein, “I think last year, probably a scorer who could play point guard, but if he can ever get to be able to do both, have the mentality either way, that’s a special player.”

David Zavac, of “Fear The Sword,” argues that Sexton has the “strength and athleticism” to be a difference maker on this Cleveland team.

Zavac argues that with Sexton’s continued growth, he could be a new key play-maker on the team not named Kevin Love or Tristan Thompson.

There is plenty of time left in Sexton’s sophomore season to show signs of strong improvement, and even establish a presence on the national level across the league.

Even if the 2019-2020 season is only a small stepping stone in the right direction to what will hopefully become a long and successful career in the NBA.

Alabama transfer point guard Jahvon Quinerly will not be suiting up for the Crimson Tide’s basketball team this season. On Monday, the former five-star prospect had his appeal for eligibility denied by the NCAA.

Michael Casagrande with AL.com shared the statement made by the University of Alabama in response while also giving an appropriate rebuttal about the lack of transparency from the NCAA:

In addition, several people, including Quinerly’s mother, took to Twitter to share their displeasure with the NCAA for this decision:

It’s obviously a tough situation for Quinerly, his family and the Alabama basketball program, which was already dealing with multiple season-ending injuries before the season even started.

Quinerly originally signed with Villanova out of high school, but chose to transfer after only one season. He was the nation’s No. 29 overall player, No. 7 point guard and No. 3 player from the state of New Jersey, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Alabama will play its second game of the season on Monday night against Florida Atlantic, which is set to tip off at 7:00 p.m. CT at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa.
