Air Jordan 1 ‘First in Flight’ pays homage to North Carolina

A new colorway of the Air Jordan 1 women’s shoe pays homage to North Carolina with a UNC-inspired look.

A special women’s UNC-inspired colorway of the Air Jordan 1 is set to release this Summer as we got our first look on Tuesday.

The ‘First in Flight’ colorway is the newest colorway in the Air Jordan 1, giving women a special UNC color blocking throughout. Although we don’t know the full inspiration for this colorway yet, the nickname hints at paying homage to North Carolina.

In images leaked on Instagram by sneaker accounts zsneakerheadz and sharkkicks1 show a Carolina blue and obsidian dominant colorway on the tumbled leather upper with white and gold accents throughout.

You can see the shoe below:

The Jordan Wings logo is dressed in gold on the side and the in-soles feature blue and gold branding. “First in Flight” is branded underneath the “Nike Air” tongue tag as well.

The shoe is set to drop this Summer with a July 6th release date and it will be available in women’s, preschool and toddler sizes with a $180, $85 and $70 price tag on them at retailers and online at Nike.com.

Sneakerheads react on Twitter after Air Jordan 1 “UNC Toe” shock drop

Here’s how sneakerheads on Twitter reacted to the Air Jordan 1 “UNC Toe” releasing early with a shock drop on SNKRS.

Anytime a retro Air Jordan 1 shoe drops, the hype goes through the roof as collectors and sneakerheads attempt to purchase the shoe. The most common way to attempt to purchase is through the Nike “SNKRS” app via shock drops and draws despite the app’s problem with bots. And anytime a sneaker releases, there’s plenty of chatter about it on social media.

That was the case again on Thursday as the Air Jordan 1 “UNC Toe” was shock dropped early ahead of its official release on July 22nd. The early release was scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m. as fans attempted their luck at this shoe that pays homage to Michael Jordan’s alma mater, the University of North Carolina.

The shoe gets its name from the toe box in that University Blue color, giving it a crisp look that is perfect for any UNC or Jordan fan.

While consumers will have another chance at purchasing this shoe, here is how Twitter reacted to the release with some wins and loses.

A detailed look at Air Jordan 1 High OG “UNC Toe”

Jordan Brand is set to release another UNC-inspired colorway of the Air Jordan 1 High this Summer.

Fresh off a release back in 2021 in a smooth UNC colorway, Jordan Brand is set for another colorway of the Air Jordan 1 High OG shoe that pays homage to Michael Jordan’s alma-mater.

The Air Jordan 1 High OG “UNC Toe” will release in early July with a University Blue, Black, and White color scheme. However, this version features a toe box in that University Blue color, giving it a crisp look that is perfect for any UNC or Jordan fan.

While the shoe has a release date of July 8th, Instagram user SameOldSneakers got his hands on a pair and gave us a look at the pair in detail:

Like most Air Jordan 1 models, this will likely be a tough one to get your hands on. They will release on the SNKRS app as well as retailers across the country for a price tag of $180.

LOOK: UNC Football program gets special Air Jordan 1 Low

Jordan Brand cooked up a special UNC colorway of the Air Jordan 1 low for the North Carolina Tar Heels’ football program.

Playing for the University of North Carolina has its perks. Each year athletes and staff members with athletic programs get Jordan Brand gear, including retro shoes in a special Carolina Blue colorway.

And the football program was the latest to receive that perk.

On Wednesday, the football program revealed a special Air Jordan 1 low player edition shoe in Carolina Blue. The shoe is available for players and staff members only which makes them a pretty rare shoe.

The Air Jordan 1 low is built off the classic Air Jordan 1, the first signature shoe for former UNC great Michael Jordan. Over the years, we have seen some awesome colorways for this model and this is just the latest.

Check it out below:

The shoe features a clean Carolina Blue upper with white and blue accents throughout the shoe. A speckle design appears on the SWOOSH while the UNC logo and famous argyle is on the inner soles o the shoe.

This is an awesome colorway many UNC fans wish they could get their hands on.

SPECIAL DELIVERY: The Lost & Found Air Jordan 1 is beautiful…but it’s also a bit of a slap in the face from Nike

The irony here with the Lost & Found Jordan 1 is insane

The Lost & Found Air Jordan 1 is going to go down as the sneaker of the year for a whole lot of people.

And, honestly, it’s hard to argue against it. It is a beautiful shoe that serves as a love letter to the way sneakers used to be. The shoe is intentionally distressed — it looks like it’s been sitting in the basement of some old Mom & Pop sneaker shop just waiting to be found and loved. The details are incredible.

It’s also a Chicago Air Jordan 1, which is one of the greatest sneakers of all time. It’s tough to make an argument against it.

But if you were to make one, you could start by arguing about how it’s a slap in the face to the very story that it’s trying to tell.

A lot of those same Mom & Pop shops Nike is paying homage to don’t exist anymore. Nike’s direct-to-consumer strategy is the reason why in many cases.

Nike’s Lost & Found Air Jordan 1 SNKRS app drop broke every sneakerhead out there, including me

The SNKRS app needs to be investigated, man.

That SNKRS app, man. One of these days, man. One of these days every sneakerhead’s weekend mood will not be determined by an app that we only spend around 10 minutes of our time on.

Unfortunately, y’all, that day is not today.

Nike’s SNKRS app has broken me. It has broken us, as a collective. We are done. Cooked. Fried. Whatever else you’d like to call it.

You’re probably wondering what has us down horrendously in this way. It’s the Lost & Found Air Jordan 1. That beautiful, beautiful sneaker. My word what a shoe.

So, y’all know Michael Jordan, right? Right. Well, one of the first colorways of his Air Jordan 1 sneaker that came out in 1985 was that original Chicago colorway. You’ve seen them before. It’s red, white and black and also just completely stunning.

These babies.

The thing about this colorway, though, is that it only rereleases every few years. And you can’t just find these anywhere on the street. They resell for thousands of dollars.

So here we are today with a chance to cop them for retail. But the catch is, to actually grab them, you’ve got to beat the final boss. Y’all know who it is: The SNKRS app.

Did I win? No, absolutely not. The app is undefeated, man. First, it froze phone.

Then it coded me. Maybe it thought I was a bot or something? I don’t know, man.

After that I was logged out, never to be logged back in.

It’s funny. I laughed through the pain. But it was pain nonetheless. This was pretty much the experience on the SNKRS app on Saturday. There were reportedly more than 300,000 pairs of these available but it felt like there were so many more Ls.

Sneaker Twitter was in shambles.

SPECIAL DELIVERY: The Taxi Air Jordan 1 is one of the best sneakers we’ve seen all year

The Taxi Air Jordan 1 is a top 3 AJ1 of 2022

We live in a collab-heavy sneaker world in 2022. When we all have our sneaker of the year conversations to finish the year, it’ll be dominated by sneakers made in collaboration with creators.

Nike x fill in the blank. New Balance x creator Y. Adidas x sneaker designer Z. That’s just how the game goes now. It’s rare to see a sneaker stand on its own and be considered one of the best of the year.

But the Taxi Air Jordan 1 did it. This shoe is amazing. From the materials to the color palette to the specific shade of yellow it comes with, it has the goods.

It’s one of the best Air Jordan 1 sneakers we’ve seen all year. We talk all about it on this week’s episode of Special Delivery.

SPECIAL DELIVERY: The Heritage Jordan 1 can be whatever you want it to be and that’s so cool

The Heritage Jordan 1 is so much fun.

The Air Jordan 1 is everywhere these days, obviously. It’s the most popular sneaker around.

Because of that, we’ve seen just about every iteration of the shoe we can see. We just keep getting the OGs over and over again. We get new colorblocking schemes, new Travis Scott collabs, and more colors.

It’s sort of rinse, wash and repeat at this point. And we’re all good with it! But now, we’ve finally got a model we can have a little bit of fun with.

The Heritage Jordan 1 that dropped earlier this spring is one of the most customizable Jordan 1 models out there.

You can turn these things into Chicago or Bred 1s. You can paint over it and turn it into a quasi-Travis Scott x Fragment model. There’s so much you can do if you’re just moderately good with a paint brush.

It’s so fun. And we took a look at it on last week’s episode of Special Delivery. Tap in.
