Updated Chiefs 90-man offseason roster after recent moves

An updated look at the #Chiefs’ 90-man offseason roster after recent signings and releases.

The 90-man offseason roster is constantly in flux throughout the offseason for every NFL team and the Kansas City Chiefs’ has undergone some recent changes.

Following the team’s rookie minicamp, the team signed one tryout player and released an undrafted free agent signed following the 2023 NFL draft and another veteran player signed during free agency. Days later the team made a flurry of roster moves, swapping out several undrafted free agents for veterans.

As a result, the 90-man roster is looking quite different than it was directly after the draft. It’ll likely undergo more changes ahead of, during and after OTAs. They even have an extra player with a roster exemption as a result of the NFL’s international player pathway program.

Here’s a look at the latest iteration of the offseason roster:

Meet the Chiefs’ complete 90-man offseason roster

The #Chiefs assembled the first iteration of their 90-man offseason roster ahead of rookie minicamp.

The Kansas City Chiefs have assembled the first iteration of their 90-man offseason roster. With the additions of a few undrafted free agents, the team has now hit the 90-player limit ahead of rookie minicamp. It’s the first time they’ve hit the 90-player limit this offseason, but this likely won’t be the final iteration of the roster.

If the team makes any new additions from this point forward, there will have to be a corresponding release from the team in order to make room. Brett Veach and his staff will continue tweaking the roster as the team’s needs as they grow and evolve. We could even see a few tryout players make the roster after minicamp concludes this weekend.

Updated look at Chiefs’ offseason roster following first waves of free agency

An overview of the #Chiefs’ 2023 90-man offseason roster as it currently stands:

The offseason roster is beginning to take shape for the Kansas City Chiefs after the earliest waves of free agency.

As things currently stand, the Chiefs have 57 players on the 90-man roster. They’ll need to add 33 more between the remainder of free agency, the 2023 NFL draft and undrafted free agency. Should they keep all 10 of their draft picks next month, filling out the roster shouldn’t be a tough thing to accomplish, but they still have some work to do before then.

The team’s Super Bowl-winning roster has undergone some transformation with several veterans leaving via free agency. The front office in Kansas City seems comfortable with their decisions and in many ways, they’re betting on themselves to be able to fill a lot of remaining roster needs in the upcoming draft, just as they did a season ago.

Let’s take a look at the current roster and see which positions could see some additions by the end of next month:

Here’s a look at the players that the #Chiefs currently have under contract for the 2023 NFL season:

The Kansas City Chiefs have already begun forging their 90-man off-season roster for 2023.

They’ve added a number of players on reserve/future contracts and they’ll look to retain several pending free agents in the coming weeks. They’ve just a short time until the new league year and the beginning of free agency.

Right now, the Chiefs have 50 players under contract for the 2023 NFL season. Here’s a look at those players, organized by position group:

Updated Chiefs 90-man offseason roster by position group

Be sure you know how to identify all of the #Chiefs players at training camp with an updated 90-man offseason roster:

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to hit the practice field for their first 2021 training camp practice this morning.

Fans will flock to Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri to get a first look at the Chiefs. The team has made a few changes to their 90-man offseason roster ahead of camp. They’ll begin to trim the roster, cutting it down to 85 players on August 17th.

Typically, during the offseason program, the NFL allows for duplicate jersey numbers, with one number on offense and one on defense. There are a few instances of that right now, but when they trim the offseason roster to 53 players, there won’t be any duplicate jersey numbers. There are also only a handful of players making use of the NFL’s new rules on single-digit jersey numbers.

With all of that in mind, here’s the latest look at the latest Chiefs’ 90-man offseason roster organized by position group:

Meet the Chiefs’ complete 90-man offseason roster

The first version of the 90-man offseason roster has been assembled by the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs have assembled their first iteration of the 90-man offseason roster. With the unofficial additions of a few undrafted free agents, and reported additions of WR Chris Finke and veteran DB Will Parks, the team has hit the 90-player limit.

From here on out, if the team makes any new additions, there will have to be a corresponding release from the team. Brett Veach and his staff will continue tweaking and adding to the roster this offseason to fit the team’s needs as they grow and evolve.

Saints roster cuts tracker, instant analysis ahead of training camp deadline

The New Orleans Saints began cutting their 90-man roster down to just 80 players, per NFL rules due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

The New Orleans Saints began releasing players from their 90-man roster ahead of the NFL’s new Aug. 16 deadline to trim depth charts down to just 80 players, starting about an hour after our updated list of Saints players by jersey number went live (of course).

Teams will be allowed to hold small-group practice sessions without pads for the first few weeks of training camp, though work is largely limited to strength and conditioning drills due to the NFL’s rules and protocols during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. That gives them an opportunity to try out some things with newcomers, but not much.

So far, the released players are a mix of veterans who already have some game film to refer to and rookies who didn’t have much of a chance of making the team. Check back often for updates as the Saints continue to winnow down their roster:

  • WR Krishawn Hogan, via Amie Just of The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate. Hogan logged 83 snaps in eight games with the Saints last year after starting out on the practice squad, doing most of his work as a blocker. He caught his lone target to gain four yards before ending the season on injured reserve. He’s more of a known quantity than many of the receivers on the roster, so this could be a way for the Saints to give others a shot in practice.
  • CB Deatrick Nichols, via Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football. Nichols signed with the Saints after the XFL dissolved earlier this year; he led the upstart professional football league with three interceptions as a member of the Houston Roughnecks, and seemed ready to compete for a roster spot as a contributor on special teams and in slot coverage. The Saints may feel his XFL game tape is enough to help them decide whether to bring him back later this year.
  • FB Ricky Ortizvia Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football. Ortiz was a late addition to the Saints practice squad in 2019, suiting up for the regular season finale and their playoffs loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He ultimately played just 20 snaps on offense between those two appearances, catching one pass to gain eight yards. His release is a clear sign that veteran fullback Michael Burton won’t be challenged to start for the Saints.
  • DL Gus Cumberlander, via Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football. The big undrafted rookie out of Oregon fits the same height-weight profile as free agent pickup Margus Hunt, making him somewhat redundant with a cuts deadline on the horizon. A long shot to catch on with the Saints, Cumberlander should get an opportunity with another team as players around the league continue to opt out of the 2020 season.
