WATCH: Christian Harris runs eye-opening 40-yard dash at NFL combine

This should earn the former Alabama linebacker some money!

Former Alabama linebacker Christian Harris likely made a little bit of money with his performance at the 2022 NFL scouting combine. The Baton Rouge native flew through the 40-yard dash and looked fluid during the on-the-field drills on Saturday evening.

His official 40-time of 4.44 was good enough to rank second out of all the linebackers that participated. Harris also had an impressive broad jump of 11’0” which was also good enough for second in his position group.

Harris’ high-level combine performance is coming off the heels of his dominating national championship game where he finished with 7 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks.

Most NFL mock drafts have Harris being selected in the second round, but after his strong combine performance, Harris could work his way into the first.

Here is his first 40-yard dash attempt at the 2022 NFL combine.

Zamir White raises NFL draft stock in 40-yard dash

Georgia Bulldogs running back Zamir White finished as the seventh-fastest running back in the 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL combine.

Georgia Bulldogs running back Zamir White helped his NFL draft stock with an impressive 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL combine. White is known as a bruising, tough-to-tackle running back, but he showed his speed at the combine.

White’s unofficial time of 4.47 was later officially timed as a 4.40. White finished as the seventh-fastest running back in the event, but was only 0.03 seconds off the fastest time for a running back.

White’s 40-yard dash time is surprisingly faster than James Cook’s time. Here’s a look at Zamir ‘Zeus’ White’s 40-yard dash at the NFL combine:

White is one of the top backs in the 2022 NFL draft. He still has work to do as a receiver, but he is not a fun guy to tackle. White ran for 25 touchdowns in three seasons with the Bulldogs.

White ended his career with a national championship, 856 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in 2021.

White’s other NFL combine results include a 33.5 inch vertical jump and the tied for best broad jump at 10 feet, 8 inches. Neither White nor Cook participated in the bench press.

WATCH: Brian Robinson runs 40-yard dash at NFL combine

Brian Robinson Jr. runs an impressive 40-yard dash!

The 2022 NFL scouting combine is in full swing in Indianapolis. Fortunately for fans of the Crimson Tide, there is plenty of rooting interest.

Maybe the most popular event at the combine each year is the 40-yard dash. We have already seen former Alabama wide receiver Slade Bolden compete in this event, now we get a chance to watch former Alabama running back Brian Robinson Jr. take a turn.

On his first attempt, Robinson would run an unofficial 4.63 then an unofficial 4.65 on his second attempt. But the clocks at NFL Network are not always precise, Robinson’s official 40-time was an impressive 4.53.

Measuring in at around 6 feet, 2 inches, 225 pounds, a 4.53 is a really solid time for a back that size.

Here is Robinson’s first attempt at the 40-yard dash.

6 risers and fallers from WR workouts at the NFL combine

The Saints are sure to be watching wide receivers at the combine. Chris Olave and Christian Watson helped themselves, while others took a tumble, via @RossJacksonNOLA:

The NFL scouting combine kicked off Thursday night with wide receivers, quarterbacks, and tight ends taking center stage. It was the wideout group that stole the show with blazing 40 times and impressive showings of athleticism. While some pass catchers might have driven their stock up, others could their names slip down early boards after the first night of action. Either way, the New Orleans Saints are sure to be keeping a close eye on this class, so here are seven risers and fallers among the wide receiver group

Is this the year Terron Armstead’s 40-yard dash record falls?

Is this the year Terron Armstead’s 40-yard dash record falls? How to watch offensive line drills at the NFL combine:

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”5Pek8QMIlh-1832562-7498″]

This year’s crop of blockers made a strong impression during Thursday’s media availability session, and now the rookie class can go through their paces in the on-field workouts. Offensive linemen are running the 40-yard dash, broad and vertical jumps, and agility drills on Friday. You can keep up with the coverage from the NFL scouting combine on NFL Network from 3 to 10 p.m. CT.

And this just might be the year that Terron Armstead’s legendary 40-yard dash record gets knocked down a peg. The longtime New Orleans Saints left tackle put himself on the map back in 2013, when he weighed in at 306 pounds and then breezed through 40 yards in a laser-timed 4.71 seconds. It’s a historic achievement in athleticism that hasn’t been repeated since. For context, most linemen are thrilled just to clock the distance in under five seconds.

That doesn’t mean it’ll hold up forever. There are some other incredible athletes in this year’s draft, especially at offensive tackle, ranging from Alabama’s Evan Neal to North Carolina State’s Ikem Ekwonu and Mississippi State’s Charles Cross. Northern Iowa’s Trevor Penning could also make some noise.

But that’s just the group of tackles projected to go in the first round — let’s remember that Armstead himself was just a third round pick coming out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and it took an all-time great combine performance for him to get there. Maybe someone else quite literally breaks away from the pack on Friday. We’ll be watching closely to see.

Best in class: Fastest 40-yard dash times by position among 2021 NFL draft prospects

Check out the fastest 40-yard dash times broken down by position among the 2021 NFL draft class.

The NFL combine in Indianapolis was nixed in 2021, which didn’t provide the opportunity to compare 40-yard dash times among most of the college prospects.

No overlays of prospects racing against each other. No Rich Eisen running in a suit on the artificial turf at Lucas Oil Stadium. Maybe next year.

However, many of the prospects have been running the 40-yard dash at their pro days. Here is a breakdown of the fastest 40 times broken down by position as compiled by The Sporting News. See who the fastest players are at their respective positions as the long march toward the 2021 NFL draft continues.

Who’s faster? Marquise Goodwin challenges Tyreek Hill to foot race

Wide receivers Marquise Goodwin and Tyreek Hill are willing to compete in the 40-yard dash to determine who’s the fastest player in the NFL.

Former Texas wide receiver Marquise Goodwin has plenty of confidence in his speed. Continue reading “Who’s faster? Marquise Goodwin challenges Tyreek Hill to foot race”

5 things to know about new Bears WR Darnell Mooney

Darnell Mooney, one of the fastest WRs in the draft, gives the Bears a weapon who can take the top off of the defense.

One of the questions heading into the 2020 NFL Draft was when the Chicago Bears and general manager Ryan Pace would take advantage of one of the deepest receiver classes in recent memory and select someone who can fill a need in their offense.

Their answer came about halfway through the final day as they selected Tulane WR Darnell Mooney after trading their sixth-round picks with the Philadelphia Eagles to move up and grab him.

Mooney, one of the fastest wideouts in the draft, gives the Bears a weapon who can take the top off of the defense and will fill the void left by the release of Taylor Gabriel in February.

Here are a few things to know about the newest Bears burner:

1. Mooney ran a 4.38 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Mooney’s key attribute is of course his speed, and he shouldn’t disappoint when he steps foot on the field. The former Tulane standout ran an official 4.38 40-yard dash, tied for third among all wide receivers who participated, according to Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune.

While 40 times aren’t a huge factor in whether or not a player is successful in the NFL, his speed absolutely fills a need in head coach Matt Nagy’s offense.

Watch: Clemson prospect Isaiah Simmons dusts Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas in 40-yard dash simulcam

Clemon prospect Isaiah Simmons tore up the 2020 Combine, but his time looks even better against Saints stars Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas

[jwplayer i2aqIzfF-ThvAeFxT]

Few players impressed viewers at the NFL Scouting Combine better than Clemson prospect Isaiah Simmons, a versatile safety-linebacker hybrid who has been marketed as a more-athletic Tyrann Mathieu. Simmons blazed through the 40-yard dash in just 4.38 seconds, an astounding time at his official weight of 238 pounds (and a couple of hairs beneath 6-foot-4).

To illustrate just how absurd that performance is, the NFL Network crew broadcasting combine events put together simulcam footage of Simmons competing with stars from around the league including New Orleans Saints playmakers Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas, which you can see below.

It shouldn’t be a real surprise that Kamara and Thomas were each outraced by Simmons; their own times in the 40-yard dash are easy to find in historical records, with Kamara timing the sprint in 4.56 seconds while Thomas finished slightly behind at 4.57. But seeing them all compete against one another in real time sure helps to drive the point home.

Will the Saints see Simmons during the 2020 season? It’s unclear where exactly he’ll land in the draft, but it’s a safe bet that any team would be happy to have him. Simmons is a near-lock to be picked in the first 10 selections, possibly joining the NFC South-rival Carolina Panthers at No. 7 (who have lost dynamic linebackers Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly in recent years). The Los Angeles Chargers (at No. 6) and Detroit Lions (at No. 3) also might make sense as landing spots for Simmons, and they’re both scheduled to play the Saints in 2020. So it might not be too long before Simmons is running against Kamara or Thomas for real. And that would make for must-see TV.

MSU Football DB Josiah Scott places in top-5 of position group for 40-yard dash at NFL Combine

Michigan State Football DB Josiah Scott placed in the top-5 of his position group for the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine at 4.42 seconds.

[jwplayer RJySF4hX]

MSU Football defensive back Josiah Scott decided to forego his senior year at Michigan State to make the jump to the NFL, and it looks like that decision is going to pay off for Scott. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has already identified Scott as MSU’s top draft prospect, and his performance at the NFL Combine should only strengthen that point. In the 40-yard dash, Scott placed fifth in the cornerback group, running it in a brisk 4.42 seconds.

You can watch Scott’s first attempt below:

Michigan State has not gone through an NFL Draft in the modern era without a player being drafted and Scott will certainly ensure that this trend continues. Other Spartans like Kenny Willekes and Brian Lewerke have also looked sharp at the combine. There are seven Spartans in total at the NFL Combine this year and we will post the full combine results for each player on Monday evening.
