Michigan State has been very active in recruiting during the month of June and have recently hosted an abundance of players. Add 2023 3-star tight end Will Anciaux to the list.

Anciaux, a 6-foot-6 and 210-pound tight end, is the No. 26 tight end and No. 5 player in the state of Kansas for the recruiting class of 2023 by 247sports. Anciaux said he “had a great day at Michigan State!” in the tweet he posted on Saturday.

Anciaux was offered by MSU on April 21, and spent the day with head coach Mel Tucker and tight ends coach Ted Gilmore on Saturday.

Anciaux has also been offered by Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State. He recently took a visit to Kansas and Kansas State last week.

The Spartans appear to be locked in on Anciaux and could be in a tough competition for the talented tight end out of Kansas.

Do the Gators return to the New Year’s Six in these bowl projections?

Brad Crawford of 247Sports predicts that Florida will miss the New Year’s Six for the first time during Mullen’s tenure in 2021.

Florida is yet to make the College Football Playoff since the system was created in 2014, but coach Dan Mullen managed to crack the New Year’s Six  Bowl field for the first time since the inception of the CFP in his first year in 2018. UF has now gone to six-straight NY6 bowls under Mullen, winning the first two and dropping the Cotton Bowl last year against Oklahoma while shorthanded.

Though last year’s squad dropped the final three games of the season to finish 8-4, that mark is a bit deceiving. The 2020 squad was likely Mullen’s best so far, and replacing the productivity of the best passing offense the program has seen in a decade (led by Kyle Trask, the best quarterback the program has seen in a decade) won’t be easy.

[exco_embed id=”e5869bc6-faf6-4b7a-8c06-b5610c96a8fe”]

It’s not surprising that some expect the 2021 season to be a bit of a transition year in Gainesville. 247Sports’ Brad Crawford is among this group, and though he doesn’t have UF dropping off significantly, he does have them missing out on the NY6 for the first time during Mullen’s tenure.

In his bowl projections, he has the Gators going to the Citrus Bowl in Orlando to take on Iowa. Florida hasn’t played in the Citrus Bowl since it lost to Michigan under Jim McElwain in 2016. UF last faced the Hawkeyes the following postseason, defeating them in the Outback Bowl with Austin Appleby starting at quarterback.

The two teams have played just four matchups ever, with Florida leading the series 3-1. The squads first faced in 1983, and since then, they’ve played each other in the Outback Bowl in 2004, 2006 and 2017.

Missing out on the NY6 for the first time in Mullen’s tenure would certainly be a disappointing outcome to the season, but new quarterback Emory Jones has a lot of production to replace with Trask and his top three receivers gone. Though this team is young and will rely on some new pieces, it’s a crucial year for Mullen, who now has his guys fully installed.

This Florida football transfer faces a ‘prove-it’ year in 2021

Justin Shorter hasn’t lived up to his five-star ranking yet, but he’ll finally have the chance to be a feature player in 2021.

While many five-star recruits live up to their expected level of play as soon as they step on the field for the first time in college, others never develop into the player their school hoped they would when they were signed. These prospects can differ in many ways, but there’s one thing they all have in common: an elite degree of talent.

You have to flash tremendous ability in high school to receive that honor, and that’s why you can never count a former five-star out, even one who has been disappointing.

There are a number of guys like that in college football this season, and one of those players is UF receiver Justin Shorter. The former five-star Penn State recruit had just 15 catches for 157 yards in two years with the Nittany Lions, and after transferring to Florida last season, he was still overshadowed in the passing game, though he finished with career-highs in receptions (25), yards (268) and touchdowns (three).

[exco_embed id=”e5869bc6-faf6-4b7a-8c06-b5610c96a8fe”]

He’s one of the former five-star recruits facing a “prove-it” season, according to 247Sports’ Chris Hummer.

Shorter has a big-time chance to break out this season. As Hummer mentions, UF’s top-three pass-catchers from a year ago are gone, and Shorter should become a starter on the outside in 2021. Though coach Dan Mullen would certainly love to see more YAC from the big-bodied target, he did demonstrate some impressive ball skills this season.

Alongside Copeland, he should be a favorite target of Emory Jones in 2021, and though Shorter hasn’t lived up to his five-star billing to this point, he has the potential to be a centerpiece in Florida’s offense.
