The College Football Playoff has major interest for some Commanders

There are Washington players representing each school in the College Football Playoff. Alabama, of course, leads the way.

The 2023 College Football Playoff kicks off today with the two semifinals.

First, in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA, will be the Michigan Wolverines, this season’s top seed, facing the fourth-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide. Kickoff is scheduled for shortly after 5 pm.

Part two of the CFP doubleheader will be played at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. Second seeded Washington Huskies will be matched up against the third-seeded Texas Longhorns. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:45 pm.

Florida State AD releases statement on their snub from the College Football Playoff

Florida State’s athletic director on the Seminoles being snubbed from the College Football Playoff.

The College Football Playoff has been revealed and the Florida State Seminoles did not make the top four teams after an undefeated season and ACC Championship win.

The Seminoles are 13-0, recently beating Louisville 16-6 to win the ACC Championship and further their undefeated season. With starting quarterback Jordan Travis’ season done and backup Tate Rodemaker out for the game with a concussion, they did it behind third string QB Brock Glenn.

Unfortunately for the Seminoles, they were snubbed from the CFP and saw their championship hopes disappear. After the snub , Michael Alford, Vice President and Athletics Director of Florida State University released this statement.

“The consequences of giving in to a narrative of the moment are destructive, far reaching, and permanent. Not just for Florida State, but college football as a whole.”

“The argument of whether a team is the ‘most deserving OR best’ is a false equivalence. It renders the season up to yesterday irrelevant and significantly damages the legitimacy of the College Football Playoff. The 2023 Florida State Seminoles are the epitome of a total TEAM. To eliminate them from a chance to compete for a national championship is an unwarranted injustice that shows complete disregard and disrespect for their performance and accomplishments. It is unforgiveable.”

“The fact that this team has continued to close out victories in dominant fashion facing our current quarterback situation should have ENHANCED our case to get a playoff berth EARNED on the field. Instead, the committee decided to elevate themselves and ‘make history’ today by departing from what makes this sport great by excluding an undefeated Power 5 conference champion for the first time since the advent of the BCS/CFP era that began 25 years ago. This ridiculous decision is a departure from the competitive expectations that have stood the test of time in college football.”

“Wins matter. Losses matter. Those that compete in the arena know this. Those on the committee who also competed in the sport and should have known this have forgotten it. Today, they changed the way success is assessed in college football, from a tangible metric – winning on the field – to an intangible, subjective one. Evidently, predicting the future matters more.”

“For many of us, today’s decision by the committee has forever damaged the credibility of the institution that is the College Football Playoff. And, saddest of all, it was self-inflicted. They chose predictive competitiveness over proven performance; subjectivity over fact. They have become a committee of prognosticators. They have abandoned their responsibility by discarding their purpose – to evaluate performance on the field.”

“Our players, coaches, and fans – as well as all those who love this sport – deserve better. The committee failed college football today.”

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers are coming off a 16-7 revenge rivalry win on the road against South Carolina, and the performance was enough for

Clemson to move up in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.
After joining the rankings for the first time last week and earning the No.24 spot, Clemson (8-4, 4-4 ACC) has moved up to No.23. The Tigers likely could have made a bigger jump in the rankings, but their offensive performance against the Gamecocks is a difficult thing to ignore.

Clemson is heading to a bowl, but we will have to wait to hear where, when, and who against, though multiple interesting opponents such as Oregon State and Tennessee have been rumored. We will find out on December 3 about the Tigers’ fate.

Clemson makes the College Football Playoff in USA TODAY Sports 2023 bowl projections

Clemson is a CFP team in USA TODAY Sports Bowl Projections.

The 2023 college football season has started as Week 0 is behind us with fans looking forward to Week 1 action where their favorite teams could be taking the field for the first time.

For the Tigers, it is a September 4 matchup at Duke that fans are waiting for that will kickoff what could be a special season for the Clemson football program. Will Clemson make their long awaited return to the College Football Playoff in 2023, or will it be a season where the Tigers are once again on the outside looking in?

Opinions vary here. There are many who believe the ACC is Florida State’s conference to lose while others, but seemingly less lean Clemson. Whoever wins the conference, has a strong chance to make a CFP appearance and represent the ACC.

USA TODAY Sports recently released their bowl projections for 2023, with the Tigers making the playoff with a Sugar Bowl appearance against Georgia. This is as far as the Tigers went, with Georgia projected to face Alabama in the championship game.

Twitter reacts to Clemson’s latest College Football Playoff ranking

Here is a look at how Twitter reacted to Clemson’s latest College Football Playoff ranking.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers are 10-1 (8-0 ACC) as they head into rivalry weekend, coming off a nice 40-10 win over Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes.

As the Tigers won this week, they also made moves up in all three major rankings between the AP Poll, the Coaches Poll, and the College Football Playoff rankings. While they moved up in all three, Swinney’s team saw minimal movement. In the most important of all, the CFP rankings, Clemson moved up from No.9 to No.8 in the rankings.

Clemson’s path to the College Football Playoff is still alive, with a couple of two-loss teams ahead of the Tigers and some top-ten teams still set to face off this season. The Tigers will have to play great football and win a couple of key games down the stretch to keep themselves in the hunt.

Here is a look at how Twitter reacted to Clemson’s position in the latest CFP rankings.

Clemson moves up again in the latest College Football Playoff rankings

Swinney and the Tigers move up a spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.

The third installment of the College Football Playoff rankings was released Tuesday night, with Clemson moving up a spot after their 40-10 home win over Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes.

The Tigers 10-1 (8-0 ACC) moved up to No.8 in the rankings as all but one team ahead of them last week lost. Former No.5 Tennessee lost to Clemson’s upcoming opponent and rival South Carolina in a massive 63-38 upset.

Two loss Alabama ranked No.7, ahead of Swinney and the Tigers though Crimson Tide will not make an SEC Championship appearance which gives Clemson an advantage. The Tigers’ opponent in the ACC Championship game, North Carolina, dropped from No.13 to No.17 after a loss to Georgia Tech.

Clemson’s rivalry weekend matchup against South Carolina is going to be an exciting one.

Twitter reacts to the latest College Football Playoff rankings

Here is a look at how Twitter reacted to the latest CFP and where Clemson stands in the rankings.

The latest College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday night, with Dabo Swinney and the Tigers remaining in the top 10.

Clemson 9-1 (7-0 ACC) moved up a single spot in the rankings, moving from No.10 to No.9, matching where they rank in both the AP Poll and Coaches Poll. The College Football Playoff Selection Committee still sees a path for the Tigers to make the Playoff, but having a two-loss team such as Alabama who won’t be making a trip to the SEC Championship game ahead of them does make a person wonder how good Clemson’s chances actually are.

One thing I do know is that anything can happen in college football. The next couple of weeks leading up to conference championships will be make or break for many teams around the country, with Clemson being one of those teams.

Here is a look at how Twitter reacted to Clemson’s position in the latest CFP rankings.

Clemson moves up a spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings

Swinney and the Tigers remain in the top 10 in the latest CFP rankings.

The third installment of the College Football Playoff rankings was released Tuesday night, with Clemson moving up after their 31-16 win over Louisville.

The Tigers 9-1 (7-0 ACC) moved up a single spot from to No.9 as a couple of two-loss teams remain above them. Even though they have two losses and will not appear in the SEC Championship game, the Alabama Crimson Tide ranks No.8 ahead of Clemson. The other two-loss team ahead of Clemson is No.6 LSU, who will face Georgia in the SEC Championship game.

Swinney and the Tigers have two more home games left to play in the regular season before heading to Charlotte for the ACC Championship. Their opponent in that game, North Carolina, ranked No.13 in the latest CFP rankings.

Clemson makes the College Football Playoff in latest bowl projections

USA Today Sports’ latest bowl projections see Clemson making the College Football Playoff.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers are currently 9-1 (7-0 ACC) with two more home games on the schedule before heading to Charlotte for the ACC Championship game against North Carolina.

Clemson is in a unique situation right now as their fate is no longer in their control after the team lost 35-14 to Notre Dame. They dropped from No.4 to No.10 in the last College Football Playoff rankings though there were people who felt the team deserved to drop further.

After a solid win against Louisville, where the Tigers played well, Swinney and his team will look to gain momentum heading into bowl season. If Clemson can win out, they will have a shot at the Playoff.

According to USA Today Sports’ latest College Football Playoff bowl projections, Swinney and the Tigers will take the final spot in the top four. Here’s what USA Today’s Erick Smith had to say about Clemson:

Which brings us to either Clemson or North Carolina. The ACC championship game clash could provide the springboard for both teams whose only blemish is a loss to Notre Dame. The winner could be in the same position as 25 one-loss champions from the Power Five in the eight previous years of the playoff. In those instances, 22 made the playoff. The three that missed – TCU and Baylor in 2014 and Ohio State in 2018 – all had places taken by other one-loss champions or an unbeaten Notre Dame.

No one-loss champion has been knocked out by a one-loss, non-champion. With that in mind, Clemson has the best chance to make the field, though that certainly would ignite a controversial debate should the scenario unfold.

Though the loss to Notre Dame hurt the Tigers, this team still has a good chance at making the top four with a strong end to this season. If Clemson starts clicking over these next few weeks, Swinney and the Tigers could be fighting for a National Championship opportunity.
