CeeDee Lamb solidifies WR1 claim, earns Cowboys player of the game

Lamb seems to be settling into his role as WR1 nicely and Sunday showed various ways he can dominate. | From @Ju_BeLegendary

There were a couple of individuals who deserved recognition for their performances in Dallas’ 25-10 win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Quarterback Cooper Rush was efficient once again and when the Cowboys had to put together scoring drives, he did an excellent job doing so. Kicker Brett Maher was 4-for-4 on field goals and has continued his early season success, looking like a completely different guy this go around. Corner Trevon Diggs was fantastic, recording his second interception of the season along with a couple athletic pass break-ups.

However, the player of the game was wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Over the last six quarters Lamb is proving he can be that alpha receiver the Cowboys expected him to be coming into the season. He finished the game with six receptions for 97 yards and a score. He averaged 16.2 yards per catch and most importantly didn’t have any drops.

Lamb had some impressive moments in this game starting with the Cowboys third drive of the game.

He had three consecutive catches (23, 16, 17) for 56 yards that put the Cowboys in position to extend their early lead to 6 to 0. That makes two consecutive games where Lamb has taken over a drive and helped lead his team on a scoring drive.

After trading field goals in the third quarter Lamb put the game out of reach on the first play of the fourth, when he worked himself open with an impressive corner post route for a touchdown. The Cowboys will continue to lean on Lamb more and more and if he can continue to produce like he has the last two games he will erase any doubt that he can carry on the tradition of number one receivers that have dawned the No. 88 for the Cowboys.

50+ of the best pics from Cowboys 25-10 win over Commanders

The Cowboys pulled out their third straight win, what better way for fans to celebrate than to enjoy the pics from the game.

There’s nothing like proving the doubters wrong and the Dallas Cowboys have done just that. After a really bad first showing of the regular season that came on the heels of holding everyone out for the preseason, the team has now won three straight games. That they’ve done it without their franchise quarterback seems to be a testament to just how much talent their is on the roster.

Dallas was able to dominate their division rival Washington Commanders on Sunday afternoon, 25-10. The defense was once again stellar forcing two interceptions, notching two sacks with another two intentional grounding calls. The pressure was there, the backend coverage (for the most part) was there and the passing offense got a couple players back. All in all, it was a fine performance and worthy of commemoration. So get those right-click-save-as fingers ready and enjoy the best pics from the game on Sunday.

Twitter reacts: New name, uniforms and logo but same results, Cowboys win 25-10 over Washington.

The Commanders pulled up on Dallas with a new name, QB and uniforms but left with the same results. @ProfessorO_NFL tracks how Twitter reacted to the 25-10 Cowboys win.

The Washington Commanders arrived in Texas with a new team name, a new logo and newer uniforms but left with the same results. Some people enjoyed their all blacks, but nothing looks as good on that franchise as losses do. Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush entered the day 3-0 as a starting quarterback, tied for the team record and ended the day standing atop the perch by his lonesome, notching his fourth consecutive win to start his career.

The Dallas defense did what they have done throughout the first quarter of the season and held the Commanders offense to just 10 points as they pressured Carson Wentz relentlessly then kept the running game in check in the second half while generating two takeaways. With the Cowboys riding a winning streak, WR Michael Gallup’s return to action and exciting plays made by the defense, there were ample opportunities for Twitter to react during and after the 25-10 win, and the tweets did not disappoint.

What we learned about Cowboys in Week 4 win over Washington

The Dallas Cowboys are now riding a three-game winning streak after beating the Washington Commanders, 25-10, in the Week 4. The Cowboys stayed in second place in the NFC East and are now 2-0 within the division.

It was another week where backup quarterback Cooper Rush did enough to lead the offense, throwing for 223 yards and two scores. Rush wasn’t as sharp as he was in the last two weeks, but he didn’t make many mistakes leading the team to another win. The running game was held in check, rushing for only 62 yards, yet the offense managed to move the ball.

The defense for Dallas was the story once again. Dan Quinn’s unit only sacked Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz two times, but they pressured him relentlessly, never allowing him to establish a rhythm. The Commanders had 297 total yards, some of which was done with the Cowboys surrendering yards late with the game in hand.

Here’s what we learned about the Cowboys in their Week 4 win over the rival Commanders.

10 takeaways include Cooper Rush, defense making Cowboys history in Week 4

From Tony Pollard’s weird day to some record-setting performances.. from Gallup’s return to the field to Micah’s return to the game, there’s a lot to take away from Dallas’ performance. | From @KDDrummondNFL

All three phases matter in the NFL. On Sunday, placekicker Brett Maher nailed all four of his field goal attempts on the day, and the one time he didn’t want to kick a touchback, pinned the Washington Commanders inside their own 20. The rest of the special teams wasn’t great on the day, but the offense and defense did their thing yet again, as Dallas emerged victorious 25-10 in Week 4 to improve to 3-1.

That happened on the strength of an improving Cowboys passing game led by Cooper Rush and another stout performance by Dan Quinn’s defensive troops. In fact, both Rush and the defense set records on the day. Those marks are among several takeaways from Sunday’s big win.

WATCH: DaRon Bland jumps route, makes first career INT

With time and opportunity running out for Washington, Cowboys’ rookie DaRon Bland grabbed his first NFL intereption.

The Cowboys found a gem in cornerback DaRon Bland. Drafted in the fifth round, Bland had an impressive camp and preseason performance, earning a roster spot early before moving up the depth chart in Dallas.

With Jourdan Lewis suffering a pregame injury, Bland was thrust into the starting nickel spot against the Commanders. The Cowboys defense as a whole was impressive all game and late in the fourth quarter, Bland jumped a route for his first career interception.

Bland’s first interception is Wentz’s second on the day as Dallas turns it into a quick field goal to make it a 25-10 lead. If Bland continues to perform, it’ll be hard to take him out of the nickel spot that Lewis has commanded for a few years.

Trevon Diggs has himself a day, Cowboys stiffle Commanders 25-10

The Cowboys’ defense remained strong, holding a fourth-straight opponent under 20 points to start the season. | From @KDDrummondNFL

This may be a case where every week, a different Dallas defensive star takes center stage. On Sunday, in their first early-afternoon kickoff of the season, it was Trevon Diggs’ turn. Diggs came up with the big defensive stops on the final drive against the Bengals in Week 2. He came close to two interceptions before finally getting one on Daniel Jones in Week 3. And in Week 4, the First-Team All-Pro had his best game of the young season. Not only did he get another interception, but Diggs broke up two fourth-down passes, one in the end zone and the other to seal the game.

Combined with another strong game from the pass rush and another breakout performance by safety Donovan Wilson, the Cowboys were able to win their third straight game, 25-10, to improve to 3-1 on the season. Carson Wentz and the Washington Commanders fell to 1-3 on the season.

QB Cooper Rush got a new weapon, as Michael Gallup made his 2022 debut. Gallup caught the first touchdown of the game and then proceeded to give William Jackson III fits, drawing two pass interfence calls for 65 phantom yards. Combined with CeeDee Lamb’s strong performance (six receptions, 97 yards and a TD), and the passing game did just enough in a game where the Commanders’ defense stifled the Dallas run game.

Rush finished with 223 passing yards and 2 passing touchdowns for a 107.5 rating. Two bad passes were intercepted but defensive penalties negated both of them. Noah Brown also checked in with 61 receiving yards.

On defense, Diggs’ pick was matched by rookie corner Daron Bland, who filled in for Jourdan Lewis after the veteran hurt his groin in pre-game warmups. The Dallas defense harassed Wentz all day but only managed two sacks, although Wentz did incur two separate intentional grounding calls.

One of those was caused by Donovan Wilson, who also had eight tackles on the game, seven solo.

The Cowboys will now prepare to travel to Los Angeles to take on the Super Bowl champion Rams in Week 5.

Cowboys DT Quinton Bohanna heads to locker room with shoulder injury

Bohanna went down with a shoulder injury midway through the fourth, heading straight to the locker room after the play. | From @CDBurnett7

In his sophomore season, Cowboys defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna has found his place on a loaded defensive line. Known for his run-stopping, he beat out Carlos Watkins and others for a roster spot and has been a block-eater for Dallas through three games.

Bohanna was chasing down a run in the fourth quarter against Washington when he took an awkward fall, injuring his left shoulder on the play. He stayed on the ground after the fall and was taken immediately to the locker room once he reached his feet.

Bohanna became a starter for 2022 but his departure from the game sets up defensive tackles Neville Gallimore and Trysten Hill to take extra snaps.

WATCH: Cowboys WR Lamb torches defender for wide-open TD snag

CeeDee Lamb continued his strong day with a double move, fooling the Washington defense for an easy touchdown. | From @CDBurnett7

In Week 3, Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb turned a frustrating drop into a huge night, including a one-handed touchdown grab for the win. Concerns around taking over the No. 1 spot for the receiver room were halted, and now he’s adding to it against the Commanders.

After Washington cut the lead to five, quarterback Cooper Rush went to his best man on the ensuing drive. Thanks to a pass interference penalty, the Dallas offense got into opposing territory with ease. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Lamb ran a double move that left the Commanders lost and Rush found him for a wide open touchdown to extend the lead.

Lamb is commanding the day with 97 yards after the touchdown grab. With wide receiver Michael Gallup back in the fold, the passing game is looking its strongest so far in 2022. The rise of Lamb has been a heavy factor in that as the Cowboys extend their lead to 12.

Cowboys’ Zack Martin suffers ankle injury in Q3 vs Commanders

The Cowboys held their breath after an injury to Zack Martin, but it appears he’s okay to return against the Commanders. | From @CDBurnett7

Early in the second half, the Cowboys have began to force their will on the Commanders with two quick stops from the defense. After a three-and-out from Washington, quarterback Cooper Rush fired a 45-yard strike to wide receiver Noah Brown.

After the big gain, hearts dropped in Dallas as seven-time All-Pro right guard Zack Martin was in pain following a right ankle injury. Martin attempted to stay on the field but teammates called to the sideline for trainers. Following a brief check with Martin, he walked to the sideline under his own power.

Martin has been the anchor of the Cowboys offensive line since he was drafted in 2014 and even the slightest injury to him leads to Dallas as a collective holding their breath. Martin spent time with trainers on the sideline, but it was a short visit and he’s set to return to the field.

With Martin likely good to return, the Cowboys offense keeps their best player on the field as the fourth quarter approaches in AT&T Stadium.
