2023 NFL power rankings: Bengals, 49ers upper crust in way too early post Super Bowl list

The Cincinnati Bengals and the San Francisco 49ers are among the top teams in the Touchdown Wire post Super Bowl NFL power rankings.

The Super Bowl is over. For some, the end represents a new beginning.

With the Kansas City Chiefs beating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII, teams can officially turn the page and look to next year as they vie to hoist the Lombardi Trophy a year from now.

Some teams still have a ways to go. Their front offices and coaches will never say it, but they are rebuilding and it may take a season or two.

Other teams are in the hunt. Can they make the right moves in the offseason to be in the conversation with the Chiefs and Eagles?

Few teams are already there.

Here is a look at the post Super Bowl power rankings.

NFL 2022 Final Power Rankings: Eagles have home-field in the NFC, but not No. 1 spot

The Philadelphia Eagles earned home-field advantage in the NFC, but weren’t able to finish as the No. 1 team in the power rankings.

There are some teams in the playoffs who may not get in based on their play over recent weeks. There are also teams that have played well down the stretch but have bad records.

There are also teams who have home-field advantage in the postseason that may not be the best team in their conference.

Case in point: the Philadelphia Eagles. They went 0-2 without Jalen Hurts under center, and when he returned, the Eagles beat the Giants’ backups for all their playoff spoils from the NFC East to the No. 1 seed.

Definitely the best finish to a remarkable regular season. Does that mean they are the best team in the league though?

Here are the final power rankings for the 2022 regular season.

NFL Week 17 Power Rankings: Bills and Bengals tie for first place

The Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals showed incredible courage and resolve, and tie for first place in the power rankings to conclude Week 17.

This week’s power rankings are a little different, because Week 17 concluded differently than any other slate of games in 2022.

With 6:12 to go in the first quarter, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed after getting up from tackling Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins. Hamlin needed CPR and had to leave the game in an ambulance. Ultimately, after an hour of deliberation from the NFL, the game was postponed.

The Bengals and Bills players and coaches showed remarkable courage and sportsmanship in the moment that was bigger than football. For these reasons, Buffalo and Cincinnati go to the top of the power rankings in a tie for first place.

Here are the rest of the power rankings for Week 17.

NFL Week 16 Power Rankings: Bills, 49ers, Chiefs the teams to beat

The Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, and Kansas City Chiefs topped the Touchdown Wire NFL power rankings to conclude Week 16.

Although there were three games to go in the NFL season, Week 16 showed that the last eight quarters of the 2022 campaign are going to be as meaningful as anything that happened to this point.

Technically, the Buffalo Bills aren’t the No. 1 seed in the AFC yet, but they are playing like the best team in the NFL.

The San Francisco 49ers continue to stack wins with Brock Purdy, and the Kansas City Chiefs are doing what they do in December: win.

The New England Patriots continue to slide, and Washington is on thin ice.

Here are the power rankings to wrap up Week 16.

NFL Week 15 Power Rankings: 49ers surge, Cowboys fall

The San Francisco 49ers gained ground in the power rankings to conclude Week 15 as the Dallas Cowboys took a tumble.

The San Francisco 49ers are making it look Purdy.

Despite going through two starting quarterbacks and now relying on their third in rookie Brock Purdy, the 49ers continue their charge towards the playoffs.

For the first time since 2019, the 49ers locked up the NFC West. Recall the last time they did so they went to the Super Bowl.

The Dallas Cowboys apparently can only beat the Jacksonville Jaguars in either Texas or London — especially not in Florida.

The Philadelphia Eagles remain a juggernaut, and the Buffalo Bills continue their dominance over the AFC.

Here are the NFL power rankings to conclude Week 15.

NFL Power Rankings Week 16: What to make of potentially vulnerable Cowboys, Vikings and Eagles?

The Cowboys blew a big lead to the Jaguars. The Vikings had to come back from 33-0 against the Colts. Are either legit NFC contenders?

Week 15 of the 2022 NFL season was epic for very dumb reasons.

While it lacked the panache of a Baker Mayfield, fresh off the plane four-minute comeback, it wormed its way into our hearts by being perfectly and stupidly inscrutable. The Indianapolis Colts, guarding a 33-0 halftime lead? LOSERS. The New England Patriots, coached by one of the smartest minds in the game’s history? SUDDEN IDIOTS. The Washington Commanders, searching for late-game drama and a game-tying touchdown? BAD NEWS, PASS INTERFERENCE IS LEGAL NOW.

The end result was an exhausting four days of football that resulted in a handful of clinched playoff spots, deflated Super Bowl hopes, and a world where the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars — once 1-6 and 2-6, respectively — have bonafide paths to a postseason bid. That leaves us with 32 teams to sort out and three weeks remaining to built the map to Super Bowl 57.

Here’s how every team stands following Week 15.

Dolphins fall again in Week 15 power rankings after SNF loss

Another loss would likely drop them out of the top 10.

The Miami Dolphins were defeated by the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, dropping their second game in a row.

Miami’s offense was unable to do much of anything. They had two long touchdowns – one on a long touchdown reception by Tyreek Hill and one on a fumble return touchdown by Hill as well.

Throughout the year, Touchdown Wire’s Mark Lane has been producing weekly NFL power rankings. Miami had jumped to the top spot earlier in the season, but they’ve now slid back down to ninth ahead of their road matchup with the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium.

Here’s what Lane wrote about Mike McDaniel’s squad:

“The Dolphins are starting to take on water as their hopes to win the division for the first time since 2008 sink. Miami can still rebound over the next four games to prove they are a wild-card team no one wants to host in January.”

Ahead of Miami are the Los Angeles Chargers (7-6), Minnesota Vikings (10-3), Dallas Cowboys (10-3), Cincinnati Bengals (9-4), Kansas City Chiefs (10-3), San Francisco 49ers (9-4), Buffalo Bills (10-3) and Philadelphia Eagles (12-1).

NFL Week 14 Power Rankings: Detroit Lions surge into the top-10

The Detroit Lions crack the top-10 in the latest Touchdown Wire NFL power rankings to conclude Week 14.

The Detroit Lions have been terrible for a long time.

After experiencing three winning seasons among the past four following the 2017 season, the Lions fired Jim Caldwell and ushered in the Matt Patricia era. The Lions never saw another winning season, and the same was true for rookie coach Dan Campbell in 2021.

With the Lions starting 1-6 in 2022, it appeared to be more of the same.

However, Detroit has turned things around quickly, going 5-1 since and loitering in the lobby for the playoffs. They will need a little fortune, and to do their part, but it is looking more likely.

Here are the NFL power rankings to conclude Week 14.

NFL Week 13 Power Rankings: Cowboys, Bills rise while Dolphins, Chiefs tumble

The Dallas Cowboys defense is like the Showtime Lakers.

Anytime Dallas’ defense is on the field with a moribund offense, as was the case with the Indianapolis Colts in Week 13 on Sunday Night Football, get ready for the gobs of turnovers.

The Buffalo Bills also had a great week as they are now projected to get home-field advantage in the AFC, if the playoffs started today.

Of course, Buffalo’s fortune came at the Kansas City Chiefs’ expense, who have a problem with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Miami Dolphins also struggled on the West Coast and lost ground in the AFC East.

Here are the power rankings with Week 13 in the books.

NFL Week 12 Power Rankings: Eagles, Dolphins, Vikings on top

The Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins, and Minnesota Vikings saw boosts to their statuses in the latest Touchdown Wire NFL power rankings.

Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells, who won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants, used to say that you know what you have as a football team by Thanksgiving.

These power rankings certainly aren’t definitive, but provide a good measure of where teams are coming out of Turkey Day — which had touching tributes to the late John Madden.

The Philadelphia Eagles, coming off a loss two weeks ago and edging the Indianapolis Colts, asserted their dominance in Week 12.

The Minnesota Vikings also got over their pre-Thanksgiving thrashing at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys to defend U.S. Bank Stadium from the New England Patriots.

The Miami Dolphins returned from their bye week with their fourth straight game of scoring 30-plus points.

Here are the power rankings across the NFL with Week 12 in the books.
