If you’re sitting down on Wednesday (!!) at 3:40 p.m. (!!!) to watch a Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens game that was supposed to be played last week on Thanksgiving night (!!!!), you may be wondering when the last time the NFL was played on Hump Day.
Funny enough, the answer is: just eight years ago!
It was in September of 2012 that the New York Giants played the Dallas Cowboys on a Wednesday, not the traditional Thursday. That was because the next day, President Barack Obama was speaking at the Democratic Nationals Convention to accept the party’s nomination in what would be a successful attempt to be reelected.
If Ravens-Steelers is moved from Tuesday to Wednesday, it'd be first NFL game played on a Wednesday since Cowboys' season opener vs. Giants on Sept. 5, 2012. Was played on a Wednesday so not to overlap with President Barack Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention. https://t.co/2uB6rXa5w6

What’s more, there used to be a lot more NFL games on Wednesdays:
From @EliasSports @ESPNStatsInfo: There have been 39 Wednesday games in NFL history. Last one was season opener in 2012 to avoid Obama speech
Before that.. last one was 1948 when the Rams played the Lions — also in a season opener. https://t.co/HvnOCREyZq

So there you have it. Wednesday football isn’t so rare. Wednesday football at 3:40 p.m. Eastern, on the other hand …
