Sooner Nation Reacts: Gabriel to Mims salvages lackluster first half for Oklahoma vs. Kent State

Dillon Gabriel hit Marvin Mims just before halftime for a 36-yard touchdown to salvage a poor Sooners’ first half.

For about 59 minutes, the Oklahoma Sooners struggled offensively to get anything going. It was a frustrating half of football as the running game couldn’t do much, and Dillon Gabriel wasn’t able to find anyone down the field consistently.

The Sooners were held in the game by a strong defensive performance that held Kent State to three points despite the Golden Flashes’ ability to convert on third down regularly.

Oklahoma got the ball back with just over a minute to play and proceeded to march down the field to score the go-ahead touchdown. It gave the Sooners a 7-3 lead to end the half.

Marvin Mims has been the best wide receiver the Oklahoma Sooners have had for the last couple of seasons, and OU needed him to come through with the touchdown reception in a bad way.

A fan base that looked ready to riot let out a collective sigh of relief going into half after the touchdown strike. Here’s how social media reacted to Dillon Gabriel to Marvin Mims touchdown connection. It was Mims’ first touchdown reception of the season.
