Social media reacts as Iowa blows out Indiana to grab first place in the Big Ten

All alone atop the Big Ten standings! Social media reacted to No. 3 Iowa women’s basketball’s signature win over No. 13 Indiana, 84-57.

In front of a raucous Carver-Hawkeye Arena crowd, the No. 3 Iowa Hawkeyes delivered another statement performance.

After a slow start shooting, senior superstar Caitlin Clark found the touch from 3-point distance and the Hawkeyes used a big third quarter to pull away for a blowout victory over No. 13 Indiana, 84-57.

Iowa outscored Indiana 22-11 in the third quarter to turn a 43-37 halftime lead into a comfortable 65-48 advantage heading into the final quarter. From there, Iowa cruised.

Of course, it’s early in the league race, but Iowa grabbed sole possession of first place in the Big Ten standings with the win.

Clark finished with 30 points on 10-of-21 shooting, including 6-of-16 from 3-point range. That included several vintage logo treys. The 6-foot guard snagged her 52nd career double-double; she recorded 11 assists and five rebounds.

Three other Hawkeyes finished with double-figure scoring, but it was fifth-year guard Molly Davis that provided the biggest spark. The 5-foot-7 guard knocked down a pair of early 3-pointers and found timely bucket after timely bucket en route to 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

Graduate guard Kate Martin also registered a double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Fifth-year guard Gabbie Marshall was the final Iowa player in double figures. She added 12 points on four made 3-pointers. It’s her third straight game with four made 3-pointers.

Iowa limited Indiana All-American Mackenzie Holmes to 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting.
