Sixers provide update on Seth Curry as he continues recovery from COVID

The Philadelphia 76ers provide more updates on Seth Curry as they begin a road trip on Tuesday.

The Philadelphia 76ers have been a team that was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic recently as shooting guard Seth Curry tested positive for the virus back on Jan. 7 and he had to be isolated from the team for a few weeks.

He returned on Jan. 22 and he had a good night that night, but that was then followed up with a few performances where he did not look like himself in any shape or form. It was clear that even though he had recovered from the virus, he was still feeling some of the effects from it.

He played well in Saturday’s win over the Brooklyn Nets where he had 11 points and he got some triples to fall as well. He also had some energy which is something he did not show off too much due to being sick.

The Sixers got back to work on Monday before a 4-game road trip that begins on Tuesday against the Sacramento Kings and that is where Curry was able to get some more work done.

“It’s hard to tell,” said coach Doc Rivers. “There’s been moments where it’s looked like he’s had great energy and then the next day (he doesn’t). So it was good to see the last game, he looked good today.”

Another guy who had to miss a lot of time with an injury was Furkan Korkmaz who missed a few weeks with an adductor strain. He understands what Curry is going through and it is going to take some time to really get back into a groove.

“I think Seth is still trying to get back in shape,” said Korkmaz. “Even if it’s three days, five days, in the NBA, it takes time to get back 100 percentage. I know this very well too, but he has experience. He doesn’t worry about it how he looks.”

Curry was shooting 59.5% from deep before he went out with the virus and he is shooting only 33.3% from deep in nine games since his return. It is still going to take some time before he can get back on the same page with everybody again.

“He knows he’s gonna make the shots,” Korkmaz added. “He’s gonna play, he’s always gonna find his own rhythm, but it’s gonna definitely take time. It doesn’t matter how many days you’re not with the team, even if it’s like two days, it takes time.”

As the Sixers get set to take on the Kings on Tuesday, it will be another test to see where Curry is at with his health and his energy.

“We’ll see tomorrow,” Rivers finished. “You still never know how it’s gonna go, but overall, I liked how he looked. I liked how everybody looked.”
