Sixers assistant Sam Cassell in the mix for Wizards’ coaching vacancy

Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Sam Cassell is in the mix for the coaching job with the Washington Wizards.

Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Sam Cassell is a huge part of Doc Rivers’ staff in terms of plater development. Cassell has been one of the guys in Ben Simmons’ ear whenever he turns the ball over or if he makes a mistake on the defensive end and he has been influential for him.

Cassell has also done great work while with the Los Angeles Clippers, also under Rivers, before he came to Philadelphia and he has not been a name featured in coaching circles despite his strong reputation. That is, until now.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst on a recent episode of “The Hoop Collective” podcast, Cassell is in the mix for the coaching vacancy with the Washington Wizards. That report was then pushed further by Washington City Paper reporter, Ben Mehic.

Cassell is certainly a huge part of the Sixers and he definitely played a part in their success in the 2020-21 season and if he were to leave, it would be a big void. The work he put in with Simmons was huge for them and he would be tough to replace on the staff.
