Sixers among teams that Pelicans want to send JJ Redick to in a trade

The New Orleans Pelicans are looking to send JJ Redick to a team in the Northeast and the Philadelphia 76ers are among those teams.

The New Orleans Pelicans are off to a tough start to begin the 2020-21 season at 7-11 and they are beginning to focus more on the development of their young players. Guys such as Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker need more playing time.

So in order to get them the proper time, the team has put Lonzo Ball and JJ Redick on the trade market. They are two productive players who will make an impact on any team.

As the trade talks for Redick get set to begin, the Pelicans have their eyes set on a few Northeast teams to send him to. According to The Athletic and The Stadium’s Shams Charania, the Philadelphia 76ers are amongst those teams.

Per Charania:

As Feb. 2 looms as the NBA’s deadline for teams to aggregate acquired players in a trade later, the New Orleans Pelicans have focused on the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics as potential trade destinations for JJ Redick, sources tell The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Redick, whose family resides in Brooklyn, is believed to have a strong preference to return to the northeast area. No deal is imminent yet, sources said.

Redick, 34, is averaging 7.9 points this season. He has been a “Did Not Play-Coach’s Decision” in the Pelicans’ past two games. New Orleans has two young, promising guards in Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Kira Lewis who are on the precipice of rotation spots in the crowded backcourt.

Redick, of course, did play two seasons in Philadelphia from 2017 through 2019 and he had some terrific seasons there. He shot 40.7% from deep during his time with the Sixers and he had great chemistry with star big man Joel Embiid and he also knows how coach Doc Rivers runs things due to their time together with the Los Angeles Clippers.

He is shooting only 29.8% from deep to begin the season in New Orleans, but a change of scenery to a contender will probably do wonders for him if the two teams can agree to a deal.
