The day has come for the Los Angeles Rams – and the 31 other teams – to trim their rosters down to only 53 players. Many teams have already begun cutting players before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline, but the Rams haven’t made a move yet.
That’s partly because they have so many difficult decisions to make. To Sean McVay, that’s a good thing.
“That’s the goal, is these guys have made these decisions difficult for us,” he said. “There are a lot of layers to it, but we never go into it where there’s a finite number of positions. It’s that 53, but then that 48 drastically shapes the latter part of the roster. So there will be some challenging, but the right type of discussions. And then we’ll have to make those decisions (Tuesday) morning.”
Even with the way the Rams’ roster is constructed, being heavily reliant on stars and big-name players, there are a number of lesser-known players who will contribute throughout the season. And they’ll also cut some guys who will probably get claimed by other teams, which will be a loss for the Rams if they were planning on signing them to the practice squad.
Players who have made the Rams’ decisions particularly difficult are Lance McCutcheon, Bryce Perkins and A.J. Arcuri, as well as potentially undrafted rookie Keir Thomas. They were all bright spots this preseason and made a strong push for the 53-man roster.
