San Diego State Beats Boise State 81-68.

San Diego State has made it a habit of late to allow teams to shoot over 50% on them in the first half and then use the second half to shut Boise State down and come back. Today was no different as the Aztecs allowed the Broncos to score 40 points in the first, but pulled away in the second half. With the victory, the Aztecs make the Mountain West Tournament Final for the 10th time in 12 years.

The first half was like a typical basketball game, a game of runs. San Diego State opened the game on a 9-3 run behind three 3-point shots. Boise State then went out and took the lead and pushed it to 16 behind some timely shots. In a game a runs the momentum had to shift back. Jordan Schakel hit a three right before to cap off a 19-3 run to tie the game at 40.

In the second half the Aztecs kept the momentum, slowly extending the lead up to 12 with 10 minutes to play. Every time the Broncos tried to take claw back into the game, San Diego State would hit a big shot to stem any momentum shift. Also, the Aztec defense stepped up once again. After allowing the Broncos to shoot 57.7% from the field in the first, the Aztecs held the Broncos to 23.3%. In the end, as they have for most of the year, the Aztecs were too tough in the second half and pulled away from the Broncos.
